2 Mechanical Jack problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/22/2006

My 2001 Volkswagen Jetta fell off the jack while my son was changing a tire this morning. The jack, provided by the manufacturer with the vehicle, appears to have some sort of design defect. I was able to raise the vehicle and replace the tire using the jack provided with a 1994 Volvo 940.

4 Mechanical Jack problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/14/2004

While on the freeway we had a blown tire in our 2002 vw Jetta GLS vr6 vehicle. We could not open the wheel bolts since they were glued from the factory, into the wheel. It took a 4' piece of pipe to operate the bolts wrench to open them. Furthermore, the jack supplied with the vehicle is undersized and unsafe to operate. It shifted with the vehicle and was not able to provide a steady support for raising the vehicle for the wheel change. After a few tries, we resorted to using a hydraulic jack supplied by the local sheriff deputy who was passing by the location we were stopped at.

6 Mechanical Jack problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/14/2004

While using the lifting jack supplied with the automobile to lift the vehicle to change a tire, the jack collapsed. It collapsed because the jack screw carrier threads failed. The carrier threads nut is plastic. Plastic does not have enough strength to support the weight of a 3000 pound automobile.

7 Mechanical Jack problem of the 1996 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/17/2000

The jack pops off the ridge under the car when lifting the car. This caused damage to the car and could have caused the car to drop on use while changing the tire. Second problem: on inspecting the front brake rotors, they were worn down more than what one would expect at 40k. There was still pad left. This would indicate poor materials in the rotor.

8 Mechanical Jack problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta
