Volkswagen Jetta owners have reported 27 problems related to owners/service manual (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Volkswagen Jetta based on all problems reported for the Jetta.
Conflicting torque spec is listed for the wheel bolts. The owner's manual (17a012723sf) specifies 120 nm, but I see a odi tsbs (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2020/mc-10183302-0001. Pdf) that indicates the torque spec is 140 nm. That is a large discrepancy.

Error found in cold fill tire pressure in national system used by businesses. Vehicle door sticker/placard and owners manual states 41 psi cold fill tire pressure. National system is returning a fill pressure of 33 psi. Experience: at costco tire department their system states to fill to 33 psi; tire representative discovers door placard and indicates an issue for not matching in system. At later date michelin corporate is called by myself and their system also returns 33 psi for this vehicle. Michelin is sent photos of door sticker/placard and owners manual and indicates an issue for not matching in system. This complaint is urgent and safety is at jeopardy. Please take all necessary actions to elevate. There appears to be a system error that all national businesses utilize for relying on cold fill tire pressure. The difference is major; Volkswagen states 41 psi and the national system utilized is stating 33 psi. This vehicle trim is a hybrid 17 inch wheels and all original. By nature of being a hybrid the vehicle weighs more due to these hybrid components. It may be possible that operating this vehicle with tires filled to 33 psi is extremely dangerous. From experience it appears vehicles of this trim are improperly being filled at businesses since the system has a tire pressure data error. And in fact many vehicles may currently be affected and pose a serious risk on our roads if their tire were filled to 33 psi. I am here to be of assistance so please feel free to reach out. There must be a way to fix this error. Please first verify this error in the tire pressure system. Then find exactly where the data is stored, government agency vs manufacturer, and then make action to correct the data. I feel I was at danger operating the vehicle with tires filled to 33 psi and I would feel the same way if someone else operated the vehicle in the same conditions.

In heavy rain or adverse weather the sonar in the front of the car for crash avoidance fails and states that it's unable to protect me and my passengers! the dealer has had this car for 3 times and the owners manual doesn't tell that in those situations that this can or should occur.

The vehicle is a 6-speed manual transmission. The vehicle will stall out when coming to a stop. Not user error, since the stalling happens when the car is in neutral - coasting to a stop. Stall out is very soft - akin to just shutting off the engine. This happens nearly every stop after running the car for about 15 minutes. This phenomenon is repeatable and extremely unsafe.

The same day I drove the vehicle off the dealer's lot, it shut-off on me three times; once on the new jersey turnpike and twice at a stop light. The first time at the stop light, I was waiting for the light to turn green. The second was coming to a stop. Further, I was unaware the vehicle had shut-off until I took my foot of the brake and placed it on the accelerator. It shut-off a fourth time the following weekend while in the middle of a four way intersection. Each time, the info center in the dashboard stated, "place the gear shift in park and manually start the vehicle. ".
Jetta 2019 makes a grinding noise when putting the gear on reverse(manual car). Even if stationery for more than 3 seconds it makes a grinding noise. There is something defective on the car that the dealership is hiding from me. I dont feel safe driving the car knowing its defective.
At complete stops (6 speed manual transmission) occasionally the engine stops. It has happened countless times while in traffic. Engine turns off but everything electronic is still operating. Was at a stop light and light turned green. Engine turned off and had to start the vehicle up in heavy traffic.
1. 1800 miles-transmission fluid leak, the service people told me it was a known problem with 2019 Jettas, repair took 2 months 2. Heater doesn't blow out warm air when traveling under 40 mph, even after 18 miles of driving 3. Grinding/croaking noise like a frog at 28-30 mph and again at 40 mph 4. Brakes squeak 5. Trunk falls on my head unless I push it all the way up per owners manual addendum.
The door locks will not lock properly, all they do is click trying to lock as I drive - from time to time, if they do lock - I can't unlock the driver side door from inside the car, and have to crawl out the passenger side. This is a major safety concern in the event I need to exit the car in an emergency. I had the same issue on a 2009 Jetta - and I if you look on the internet - there are many others with the same issue. I feel it's a design flaw from vw - and it's quite obvious it's been going on for quite some time now - and I'm sure vw knows about it, but has failed to fix the issue. I feel the only way vw will fix the issue is if the ntsb forces them to do a recall - please help us ? also, I'm not able to lock the doors manually either inside or outside the car. Thank you,.
The driver's side rear door lock does not work. It doesn't work manually or with the key fob. I am concerned about the safety of my passengers if something were to happen and they cannot exit the vehicle from the rear. Also, the inability to lock the rear door is another safety issue. I have noticed several complaints about the same problem. Does it take an actual vehicle fatality for this problem to be dealt with?.
While in park my key was stuck in the ignition and would not come out. Car was on and I tried to turn it off and remove the key as normal but it would not turn fully to the off position or come out. I eventually stalled my car out as it is a manual to shut it off and fiddled with it for an hour and was able to get the key out. This has happened a couple times.

I first started experiencing this problem with the rear passenger door on my vw Jetta in December 2015. The door would not lock using the key remote. I have to manually lock the doors by pushing the key into the driver side door in order to get a beep sound and flashing indicators to confirm that all the doors are locked. I took the car to the vw dealership which cost $480 to fixed one door. About four months after fixing the door, someone broke into the car which I later found out that the driver side rear door lock also failed and wasn't working. The difference this time was, manually using the key would only lock three doors (2 front door and passenger side rear door, which I had fixed prior to the second failure). I took the car to the dealership again and had to pay another $480 to get it fixed. About a months after the second failure, the front passenger side door lock stop working which cost me another $480. Currently, the driver side door lock is not working. I asked the Volkswagen service advisor if Volkswagen is going to or planning on correcting this problem and the answer I got was no, it's not a safety issue. why do car doors lock automatically while driving? could it somewhat be for safety reason? when one of the door lock fails, the car doors are not locked while driving. This is a well-known problem with most of the Volkswagen models. Does Volkswagen cares? could this be dangerous for a child or adult in the back/front seat of a car driving around with unlock doors? please, please I'm crying for help!.

The tail lights and brake lights were not working. Discovered during annual state required inspection in September 2015. I was driving the vehicle regularly on rural, city and highway roads without tail and brake lights and was unaware. A repair to the electrical wiring was required. Addtionally, the trunk latch was only working intermittently prior to this repair. Since the wiring repair was made, I have had no issues with the trunk release not working. The rear passenger door on the drivers side doesn't lock and unlock when you depress the keyfob or the button in the car to lock all the doors. This is a very infrequently used door and it is the door used the least in the vehicle. Dealer states it is a bad door latch. I have not repaired it. It doesn't always open from the outside, sometimes I have to reach in and open it from the inside to get the door open. On 01. 12. 2016 the car radio stopped working. The fuses are good and intact. The bluetooth no longer works since the radio doesn't work. It is completely out of service, nothing works on the radio. I relied heavily on the bluetooth for hands free phone calls since the vehicle is manual transmission. Vehicle was stationary when discovered. Vehicle has approximately 55,000 miles on it.

Door locks don't work requires replacement of entire door lock mechanism on three doors (drivers side front, both back doors). When the unlock button is pressed -whether it's the one on the door or on the key fob- the locks do not disengage. Sometimes the front door doesn't lock, yet the car alarm is set (so if you try to open the door after pushing the lock button on the fob, it opens and the horn starts blaring). The problem with the back doors makes it impossible to get a small child out of the back of the car as there is no manual door lock mechanism on the car. Would be dangerous in the event of an accident or other incident requiring that the passengers exit the vehicle. There should be a manual unlock mechanism for each and every door.
We were driving home after having the vehicle serviced for the 50k checkup, oil change, and recall fix. The radio quit working, taking out all stereo, speakers, and bluetooth system communication. The bluetooth is still working in some context as the phone is now picked up by the vehicle when a call comes through but it must be manually changed to the phone speakers, as it tries to route it through the car. This happened less than 20 miles after leaving the garage.
August 30, 2014 this 2013 vw Jetta 2. 5se has had an intermittent problem with turning the car off and removing the key from the ignition since about 10,000 miles. Today it went from an infrequent problem that was hard to duplicate to a full-blown problem. It will no longer work at all and is now non-functional. It is not the steering wheel locking mechanism that causes this. Prior to today, the key would randomly not turn to shut off the car or turn to start. A slight push in and jiggle of the key would solve the issue. I only have a house key and a small vw key fob, nothing heavy hanging on it that would have caused any damage or wear to the cylinder. Today, the car would not shut off at all. Twisting, pulling, pushing, and any jiggling would not turn the ignition into the off position for engine shut off and key removal. Fortunately, my vehicle is a manual shift and I was able to shut the engine off by dumping the clutch. The electrical system was still on due to the key being in the on-position. I had to remove the battery cable from the terminal to shut the electrical system off and not drain the battery. Multiple tries by various people will not resolve the issue. The dealerships are all closed now, until after labor day, and we cannot get the car serviced until after that. I will be making an appointment for a warranty repair but being ignition cylinder issue, I felt it should be reported.
While driving, a warning message briefly appeared stating engine management malfunction followed by a blinking heat coil light. The manual said to take to repair station as soon as possible, but within 1 mile the Jetta tdi lost power, my car almost stopping and eventually losing all power. Lukily I was not on the freeway where this would have been very dangerous, and I was able to pull to the side of a country road, calling for a tow truck. Analysis following instructions on a vw service bulletin shows the primary fuel pump that supplies the system failed and the vane pump released metal into the entire fuel system, getting past the filter (another defect?) and going all the way to the injectors. The entire system except the gas tank will need to be replaced. Vw says this $7000 repair is not under warranty. Vw should have recalled the faulty fuel pump and faulty filter that allowed the metal to continue into the entire system. I am being told that one dealership is handling 2-3 of these cases a week! I find on the internet that this has caused accidents.
I own a 2003 Volkswagen gl 1. 8 t, when I press the lock button, the car doors do not all lock, or will work sometimes, I also am not able to get into the trunk. Upon further research I discovered that this is more then a common problem with this vehicle, in order to get the trunk open I have to crawl through space and pull the emergency lever inside the trunk, in order to lock the car I have to manually push down the locks when the key doesn't work and 40 % of the time I or a passenger gets locked in the car, until it decides to give.

When an engine stall occurs, this car requires a full reset before a restart can be performed. This is very dangerous when said reset happens while the car is moving. Meaning ¿¿ a full reset means the ignition key must first be fully turned off. When the car is in motion and the key is fully turned off, at that time the locking gear in the ignition switch engages and locks the steering wheel. . . While the car is in motion!!! this is a common occurrence in the manual shift transmission models.
First, vehicle's electronic locks stop responding to depresses from both remotes. Replace the batteries to the remote and still the car will not respond. The only way to open the door is by manually inserting the key into the drivers side, which is the only manual keyhole, and turning left twice. Once turn unlocks the driver's side door, another turn unlocks the passenger doors. After some time passenger doors stop responding to second turn. Passenger doors do no lock when manually turning key the right from the driver side door, which is the only manual keyhole. The passenger doors that do not lock cause the alarm to go off when opened. Depressing the silence alarm button on key fob does not silence alarm. The only way to silence alarm is by closing passenger door, closing driver side door and turning key right once to lock and left to unlock. Doing so only control driver side door. After some time dashboard shows "door open" symbol even when all doors are securely closed and indicator light on door is off. Dome light stays on while driving as if the doors are indeed open even though they are securely closed. At this stage the alarm system no longer works either by key fob depress nor by manually turning the lock in the drivers side door as described earlier. Doors must be locked by opening each one manually and pressing the lock door button located on each passenger door. Pressing the drivers side door lock does not lock passenger doors. All fuses are intact and no electrical issues reported.

Car door locks not working / erratic. When I bought the car from the dealer in santa cruz, California in 2012, they did not tell me the rear right passenger door did not automatically lock, nor could it be locked from inside. I had to manually lock it from the side, and now it stays locked all the time unless I pull the inside lever. Then, an year later, the other (left) passenger side started never locking too, and most of the time I have to manually lock the driver door with the key. The front right passenger door still works fine, as do all the alarms. The dealer says it will cost me $1400 to fix.
The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta wagon. The contact stated that he was searching for information in the vehicles owners manual about the weight limit for the latch system used when installing a child seat. The contact was unable to find any information. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact of the weight limit and stated that due to legal reasons the information was not listed in the manual. The VIN was not available.

Issues began with faulty starter. Then progressed to a battery of electrical issues from windows moving in reverse of desired order to horn and keys dying. Each time dealer brushed off issue. When horn and keys died (also with faulty start button) dealer tried to force me to drive unsafe vehicle until they got around to fixing the problem. Most other times the issue was ignored or I was treated as though I was making up the problem. (these problems include radio staying on when car is completely off, and after manually switching it off, it then will turn back on while the car is still off (even though the car will not start and I have to use the long hold lock function to roll windows up). The car also will reopen trunk upon close, flash passenger seat belt warnings when the seat is empty, not display gear when moving, not display mileage/fuel level while simultaneously listing mileage range from selected screen, etc. Problems are worse in extreme weather. I have attempted to have the problems fixed multiple times to no avail. Recently, I have taken the car in several times to have service light diagnosed. Dealer reset light each time without bothering to check the source. Problem progressed to engine not starting, sluggish and jerky acceleration, lurching stops, and, most recently, shutting off while driving. This is absolutely a manufacturer issue, and I am planning to pursue all options available to rectify. Not only has Volkswagen produced an unsafe vehicle, but they are also aware of these problems and make a great effort to avoid dealing with them.
I purchased this 2006 vw Jetta tdi 1. 9 turbo diesel new in 2006. After only 50k miles, vw dealership stated the turbo charger went bad and the warranty was initially refused stating it was improper oil used. This was disproven with receipts and still charged $500 of a $2300 bill. A few years later now in 2014,the vehicle was taken in for normal service and the next week, engine light came on. The same thing happened and vw states the turbo went bad and are generally only good for 50k miles. After sharing my anger about this, it fell upon def ears. I purchased another turbo out of California, due to not trusting vw any longer. This new turbo was installed and did not come with the wastegate module for it which is required for it to work. I soon discovered the wastegate was bad and neither of the turbochargers were bad, however I had to purchase twice the entire turbos sytem for this one $35 part that is sold on other Jetta models with manual wastegate but not this one. Vw refuses to sell this part and requires the whole system to be purchased. This is corrupt and dishonest and preys on the consumers. Now I am in this position again. Great car other than this issue. Its ridiculous. . Its the same analogy of breaking a spark plug and having to buy a new motor to fix your car!.
I have a 2004 vw Jetta 1. 8 turbo. I just came off from having my car checked by royal Volkswagen in winter park, FL on Thursday afternoon. They did a malfunction check. Two days later my malfunction light went on blinking. I read the manual and it said that I should drive slowly to a dealer. Because this dealer has given me problems--meaning after time I leave the dealership a few days later something else happens. . I avoided taking my car to them. I took it a local mechanical. . Long story short I had two ignition coils go out on me. In a two day period I lost a 1/2 tank of fuel. When I drove into the mechanic down the road he said my catalytic converter was a "grill" red and he told me that is caused by raw fuel entering the converter. Basically, I was told he was like lighting a match next to a gas tank. The converter was so hot because two of the four coils failed that it could been life threatening and started a fire. This is serious! I am working with vw of America and have complained about other situations about the dealership.
