I am a automotive technician at avis budget. I ordered a new fuel tank for the same model and year car. I got told by the dealer , to install the new tank "without heatshield" where the exhaust wrappes around the plastic tank. The VIN I reported=we send to the dealer for same repair. I took picture, sealer did not install "a heatshield" to protect tank from exhaust heat. On a 2021 model "vw is using this new tank" but with heatshield. " I am forced now, to install the new tank without heatshield ! I dont want to be resposible, if the car kills someone. Same dealer performed prior repairs, where one car cought fire, because dealer did not install a heat wrapp on a replaced oil control flow valve, in back of engine. Please advise !!!.

I have notice since purchasing the car it has issues with mileage and correct has to mileage. I spoke with be when first getting it and the service worker acknowledged the issue but did not fix it. It is still a problem now. You can fill the tank up go a mile down the street and it will say you have driven 30 miles. Even when the vehicle is in park it will say you are driving at least 2 miles per hour. I have a video that better places the situation as well. This vehicle also have the cd player run hot, the lighter ports do not work again, and the antifreeze light has come on every year since purchasing this car. I feel there is something wrong electrically and engine wise.

The epc light came on and I pulled to side and turn the car off. When I turned car back on the light was off. Then it came on another time and I notice when trying to accelerate to the car is lagging. So I decided to take to vw dealer in martinez GA and they said I had gotten some bad gas, they added some 44k additive to the tank. I was only using shell gas, so I was told to try another brand that was a top tier gas. I tried citgo and they had the top tier sticker on the tank. The car drove good for a day and a half then the light came on again with also the check engine light and the car started to shake. I have reached out to the dealership online and I got a call from a sales rep, who said she could help assist with purchasing a safer or new car. I don't want to buy another car at this time. I only have 125k miles and the car was running fine. I looked on the internet and I see that this is not a new issue with vw Jetta from 2014 to 2018 and vw has not figured out the fix for it. I was supposed to get a call back from the service advisor and I have not heard from him. So at the present time I am driving and pulling to the side of the road to get the light to turn off. When I get home I try not to go anywhere other that to work and back.

Ever since I purchased my vehicle one year ago, I noticed that my car has trouble starting. It is a push-to-start car, and sometimes it cuts off and I have to push the button to have it restart. It happens during all types of weather, and I've had the batter tested at the dealership and it was in good standing, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I've also had to replace the tires multiple times over this last one year of having the car. The first time I had to do that was literally within two weeks of buying the car. Furthermore, the range feature that gives you an automatic reading of the gas gauge is inaccurate. When I fill up the tank if sometimes reads over 300 miles, and then sometimes it reads over 400; and then when the gas is low and nearing empty, it notifies me at 30 miles left till empty but then rapidly drops to 15 or less by increments of 5.

The car stalls while driving at any speed or while idling when the fuel gauge is around or under 1/4 of a tank. I have read up on this and people are dumping a lot of money onto trying to figure out what the issue is and there is no answer. Stalling on a highway without a median or pull-off is not only inconvenient but dangerous.

I am unable to open the gas filler flap to fill my gas tank with gas. The filler flap usually opens using the central locking system in car or the key pod. Neither activates the filler flap now. This is a serious safety issue which Volkswagen does not have a solution for.

Started the car and after about 5 minutes of driving, the engine shuts off but all electrical systems apear to be working. No trouble/ indicator lights come on. This has happened on the interstate traveling 70, on a side street traveling 35, and sitting iddle at a stop light. Every time, the car will run for between 5-7 minutes than not restart for 5-7 minutes. At attempts to restart inside that 5 minute window after the engine stalls, there is no turning over, no clicking or anything. There is no temp issues, or low fuel issues. This has happened on a full tank and a half tank also.

Incident occurred when approaching an intersection. Engine died as if the car ran out of fuel. Tried to restart the car but the car would not turnover. It would only crank. Acted like it ran out of fuel but there was half a tank of fuel.
Pulled away from stop sign into traffic. Engine quit as if fuel was cut off. Coasted to side of roadway. Car would not restart though it did crank. About a third of a tank of fuel, 80k service was two weeks ago. Car had to be towed to shop.

Fuel tank filler door will not open. Defect in locking and release mechanism.
Glow plug & check engine lights came on , engine died 30 seconds later. Would not restart, towed to dealer, diagnosed hpfp catastrophic failure, metal debris in fuel system. Whole fuel system replaced, tank through to injectors. No warning of fault condition with no time to pull off to side of road, left stuck in middle of highway.
Vehicle stopped running after an audible ding, and a check engine message appeared on the dashboard display. Was able to restart with difficulty and proceeded about one block when the vehicle running stopped again. Vehicle could not be restarted and was pushed into a service station nearby. An attendant checked the vehicle computer and found low fuel pressure. We were then towed to a vw dealer. Dealer claims there is gasoline in the fuel tank. We have 4 months of fueling receipts showing diesel pump was used, last one two weeks prior to incident. The fuel tank at time of incident was at 1/4. Prior to the incident, there were no symptoms of performance problems.
(this car is a Jetta tdi diesel, tdi option is not available in pull-down list above) after exiting highway, I smelled diesel fuel. Parked at destination and observed fuel leaking from under hood and pooling on ground. Tow truck was called & was told to get fire dept there to clean up spill. Fire dept spread material on ground and opened car hood. We could see spray marks of fuel from injector or lines, spray marks down passenger side of car from splashing up on highway drive I was told to not start car and keep persons away from car until tow truck came. When vehicle was put on tow truck bed, more fuel gushed out from underbody of car. Car has been serviced only at vw dealer, last date of 4/12/13. This happened when I was approx 50 miles from home on a Saturday night, so the vehicle was towed to a vw dealer in that town (grand rapids, mi). Upon checking fuel gauge in car, it was down 1/8 to 1/4 of a tank further than it should have been.
The contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving at various speeds, the parking warning light illuminated intermittently. In addition, the air bag warning light illuminated and the fuel tank leaked intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not provided.

My wife was trying to merge onto a busy highway and the motor died. She was able to coast to the breakdown lane. I feel this could have been a deadly had it happened in front of a loaded gasoline tanker truck or someplace where there was no breakdown lane or in the high speed lane. This should be a safety recall that vw should take seriously.
This car is a vw Jetta tdi (turbodiesel). Driving on I-96 between lansing and brighton the Jetta began to run roughly with a loss of power. The traffic was very slow due to a snowstorm, so I was able to continue driving. The car ran increasingly rough and eventually stopped. The car was towed to my local dealership, germain vw in ann arbor. The report was fuel system failure due to the hpfp breaking apart. The entire fuel system will need to be replaced and the fuel tank fully cleaned of metal fragments.
The vehicle stalled in traffic. The vehicle would not restart. It had to be towed to a vw dealer. The vw dealer told me the pump disintegrated and sent metal fines through the fuel rail clogging the fuel injectors. The dealer claims it was due to the diesel fuel being contaminated. I have documentation that only diesel fuel was in the tank (fuel receipts). The dealer did not do a lab analysis on my fuel. They said it didn't smell right.
Vehicle would run out of fuel, while gas gauge would register a 1/4 tank of fuel left. Problem was due to a defect in fuel sending unit. Dealer was notified, and repairs were made at consumer's cost. Asking NHTSA to look into this problem. Consumer is requesting reimbursement for replacement costs of the sending unit.
