1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/19/2018

Takata recall. When starting the vehicle after seating for more than an hour, it takes an excess amount of cranking before the engine fires. 10 plus seconds. One its running it usually drives without issues until you get to 5/16-1/4 tank. While driving down the highway it starts to loose power. The car feels like it is going to shut off. It looses power, gains and loose power causing it to sputter and loose control. After a few moments it is back to normal. Then proceeds to happen sporadically usually every couple miles until it gets fill it up. This happens on city roads and highway. I fill the tank up and I only get on average 10 gallons into the tank, so I know its not out of gas. I have had the fuel pump test numerous times by different mechanics. All of them said its not loosing pressure, and it primes when the drivers door opens like it should. After reading online I have noticed many Jetta owners are having the same problems and can not seem to get it fixed. This is very concerning cause it can cut power at any moment and is very dangerous. This has been happen since I bought the car about a month ago and continues to happen if it falls below the 5/16 a tank. This is a problem that has effected many Jetta owners and prevents a risk to them and other cars on the road. This is a manufacturing problem and needs to be corrected. Thank you.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/16/2015

While driving on the freeway my vehicle began to loose power and then just shut off. Looking at the fuel gauge I had a quarter of a tank left in fuel. Pulling to the shoulder of the freeway I attempted to restart my vehicle. After 5-10 minutes of trying to restart my vehicle, it started. I then drove to the nearest gas station and filled up my tank. A couple of days later I was driving on the freeway again and the same thing happened. The fuel gauge read a quarter of a tank left and had to pull over again to attempt to restart my car. This now happens every time the vehicles fuel level gets to a quarter of a tank. I'm left having to fill up my tank at that point, quarter of a tank, to avoid breaking down on the freeway or anytime while driving.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/24/2014

With no prior indication, the engine glow plug light began flashing while driving on the highway. Within few minutes, the engine light came on and car started to loose power. Engine noise pitch changed, and was able to pull the car of the main freeway and barely made it to the dealership. As soon as we made it to the dealer parking lot, the engine cut off. Diagnostic of the car showed that the car suffered a catastrophic hpfp failure which caused debris contamination throughout the entire fuel system. 4 days later, the engine had its hpfp, fuel lines, injectors, and auxiliary pump replaced. Fuel tank was flushed and cleaned out from debris. Cost under warranty was $5500. The dealer said that they've had 50 cars exhibiting similar conditions. Cause of the failure is under investigation by vw. As owners, we have no clues what to do or when this will re-occur again which does not give me ant sense of confidence. I always fill at the same chevron station so it is not the quality of the diesel.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

Jetta wagon tdi clean diesel vehicle was being driven about 35 mph on busy road with full tank of fuel. Vehicle started stumbling and losing power. Within 30 seconds of stumbling vehicle then stalled. Initially was able to be restarted but was stumbling severely and was only able to creep a few feet before stalling. Vehicle was unable to be restarted and had to be towed 23 miles to nearest dealership where the intercooler (charge cooler) was found to have iced up and contain ice and water. This seems to be known issue with the vehicle as vw has a TSB out on the issue. The dealership stated that they actually had another vehicle with the same issue come in the day after ours and last winter had many with this issue. This appears to be a known issue and is clearly a safety issue if it can cause the vehicle to suddenly and unpredictably loose power and stall. Vw TSB # 21 11 06 / 2025464 references this issue.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/14/2012

Car engine stopped suddenly while driving. Drifted to side of road; car would not restart. Had to pay $250 for tow to dealer. Service person called to say there was metal in my fuel system/tank, but they didn't know what was wrong. He also accused me of putting the wrong gas in my car. I informed service person that it took 5 seconds on the internet to learn about the NHTSA investigation into the many high pressure fuel system failures that cause engine to stop running. Interestingly, he called back 2 hours later and acknowledged that fuel system and powertrain and other stuff need to be replaced. This is an unsafe car. I could have been going 65 on the freeway with a small child or other people in the car, all of whom could have been seriously injured when car suddenly looses all power and momentum. Many online complaint reports are for second failures, after repair. I do not trust the service dept. Of any Volkswagen dealer and have no confidence that the problem is eliminated. I am afraid to drive the car.
