Got this car for my 16 year old son. It keeps stalling while he is driving and also while idling. Been to shop 2 times. Have replaced fuel pump and crankshaft and it still doesn't work right and I'm out $1200 in repairs! service cannot figure out what is going on. They have had the car a week. . . . Then 2 weeks. . . And it still is stalling. This is a life threatening situation. I hate this car and feel absolutely ripped off buying it used. If something happens to my child because of this stalling issue, vw is going to be held responsible. I have seen years and years of complaint about this issue online and no one has ever gotten a resolution. This is unacceptable.
Vehicle fuel pumps failed and vehicle disabled. I immediately smelled a strong odor of gasoline. Vehicle towed to local mechanic; upon inspection, noticed, smelled gas leaking from vehicle rail bolts. Volkswagen America contacted and vehicle towed to local Volkswagen dealership (ourisman, waldorf, MD). Initially told no gas leaking, charged $229. 00 with recommendation to clean engine and interior covering under the hood and new cabin filter (I declined and voiced my frustration). Told no gasoline leaking and released the vehicle. A few days pass and vehicle sits, notice a puddle of gasoline and called dealership. Told to tow vehicle to dealership, told again no gasoline leaking. I traversed to dealership and pointed out the issue. Then told my issue and not covered by recall . . . . Lots more to tell Volkswagen of America case number # 04621276.

The high pressure fuel pump disintegrated when it was sitting so long in storage. Due to the editions recall vw had. There for the car will loose power and could cause an accident. Unexpectedly. The car was driving on a city street when this happened.
Driving this vw Jetta tdi 2011 on the 605 freeway south in long beach when the yellow glow plug light started linking. Car lost power. Would not accelerate, I rolled out of the freeway to an exit. After this engine stopped. Car would not start anymore. I called vw care to start a claim because this car belongs to the diesel gate scandal. To my bad luck, I found out a few weeks after I bought this car, 12/17/2019, that they had many repairs made and also that the fuel pump will go bad and the repair cost thousands of dollars. The lady of vw care, (800)822-8987 told me that my warranty for the fuel pump expired at 174,620. She asked me whats the current mileage. That is 174,847. So she said my car is not covered any more. I still asked her to put in a claim. She gave me the following claim number:[xxx]. I just feel very suspicious after they hid so much information before during the scandal for my car to die exactly a few hundred miles after this warranty expires. There are thousands of these cars out there. Can someone investigate because why will my car die exactly a few miles after the warranty expire. Have they played with the computers to do another similar thing? I hope not. What I hope is that in good faith vw repairs my car at vw of garden grove here in California. That is where I made an appointment to take the car Monday April 27, 2020. I have just had this car for 4 months. :( to look up my cars warranty under the diesel gate: https://www. Vwdieselinfo. Com/ input my VIN number: [xxx] notice that they add 48,000 miles to the last service fix made to the car. It was 126,618 miles. . Read more...

Twice the car just stalls. On the road or in a intersection. Car was in motion, on street, and just killed, motor shut off! checking several forums there has been multiple reports of diesels prior to 2013 where the high pressure fuel pump goes out. Luckly I did not get hit by another car.
Abs module has failed. Fuel pump has failed. 3 door lock modules have failed. Radio has failed. Fuel pump issues caused battery drain issues.

The engine shut off while traveling at 65mph on the highway. The high pressure fuel pump failed, causing the shutdown. Volkswagen of America had already issued an extension on the warranty for the high pressure fuel pump, but I'm beyond the mileage of the extension. I was fortunate to be in a rural area without a lot of traffic, but this could have been a major accident if I had been in traffic or even just in the left lane.

High pressure fuel pump failure at 104k miles on 2012 vw Jetta tdi a fuel line was leaking, which as stated by the service manager at serra vw, appeared to be a manufacturer defect. The engine cover was rubbing the fuel line (grommet possibly) causing a leak. The fuel presumably leaks onto the serpentine belt weakening it, and causing it to fail and shred to pieces. Fuel line was replaced, as well as the serpentine belt. Car was tested and would not crank still. Service technician thought it could be the battery, though it had been replaced roughly a year and a half ago. Still, they discharged the battery, charged the battery, and tested the car, and it still would not crank. At this point it was thought the fuel filter may be an issue. Fuel filter was replaced, the car tested again, and again it would not crank. That is when the high pressure fuel pump was going to be replaced. Serra vw placed a warranty claim, which was declined, with the blame placed on the leak in the fuel line. The fuel pump is covered under the extended emissions system warranty as a result of the emissions recall due to unethical modifications of the company. I opened a customer service case, to investigate. They found no reason why the hpfp warranty would be declined. They relied on the word of the service manager, that stated a manufacturer defect causing the fuel line to leak was the cause for the fuel pump failure. At no point was there ever any indication of stalls, lack of power, or reduced power or missing when the serpentine belt failed, indicating no issues with the hpfp prior to arriving at the dealership for service.

When driving car the engine will stall and lock up the power steering. It may happen 3-4 times within in 3 mile distance. It has been taken to two different auto repair shops one of which deals only with german motors. The problem cannot be diagnosed. After replacing the fuel pump and crank shaft sensor the problem still exists. This is so dangerous to drive as you don't know when it will happen. Please help with suggestions as the mechanics aren't able to diagnose the problem. Thank you.
Fuel pump not shutting off after engine shutoff. Draining battery. This happened one night while vehicle was stationary in my driveway.

On June 6th, while rolling up to an intersection, the glow plug sensor light flashed, and then car stalled. It wouldn't start again. It was extremely dangerous as the mph on the road is 50, and the car was not in a good position to be moved to the side of the road. Tons of cars passing very fast at 9:30 pm. We had it towed to the dealership, who found metal in the fuel. They diagnosed it and said the fuel pump had died. Due to the emissions scandal, vw gave us an extended emissions warranty, which thankfully covers the entire fuel system! wow! but then, the dealership said they tested the fuel and said it failed the contamination tests. I have kept a log of my mileage ever since I got the car. In fact, I even saved my last few receipts which show I only put diesel in my vehicle. The dealership does not want to honor the warranty because they are blaming me for misfueling and contaminating my fuel. It's really frustrating when I have owned the car it's entire life and have never put the wrong fuel in. I called vw corporate and they are trying to blame me for misfueling, too. They "talked with the dealership" and think their "fuel contamination test" was accurate. The service manager, actually, couldn't even tell me what the reason for the failing of the fuel was, and even said it could potentially be the metal shards fault. So how can they try to blame me when they don't even know why the test failed, especially when I have my last 3 receipts from the gas station showing diesel fuel going in. 10+ gallons each receipt. I had driven 384 miles on the tank of fuel before the vehicle stalled. With such delicate high pressure fuel pumps and common rail injector, it would hardly take much contamination to cause the hpfp to break. I have even contacted the gas station I last filled up at, and they have had zero complaints about bad fuel.
While driving vehicle in parking lot, car sounded strange. As car moving through parking lot car completely stalled. Turned hazards on. Turned car off and attempted to restart car. Car would not restart and windows would not function. After a few minutes a nice gentleman offered to push car to safe location. Put car in neutral and steered as nice gentleman pushed car. Car lost all power steering at this time. Contacted nearest vw dealership, vw valencia. Vw valencia stated shop and dealership would be shutting down and could not help me, directed me to nearest vw 14 miles away. Pregnant and with a 2 year old in the car decided it would not be safe to venture out of my town. Called aaa. Aaa towed me to german hi tech inc. German hi tech inc determined fuel pump was to blame. Researched vw fuel pump recalls. Found recalls on passat and cc models. Contacted vw to determine if recall is extended to Jetta tdi. Vw employee told me not at this time. Determined best course of action to have work completed in town if no guarantee of recall. Did file a complaint with vw.
While driving down road early in morning approx 2 miles from house I just left from my 2004 Jetta shuts down total loss of all power I pulled car over in a church parking lot I smelled smoke and could see smoke coming from fire wall I raised hood and pulled battery cable off I could see smpoke filling inside of my car walked around to driver door to get my phone and I seen fuse box on fire. Another vehicle stopped to help me and he approached my car and then called police ,full flames were coming from my car within 5 min so I stood back and watched my car burn . Fire dept showed up and put fire out my car is a total loss. Ive had issues with alternator, fuel pump, air bag light, headlights are really dim even on bright. Nothing but issues with this car since I got it. 115. 000 miles only on this car . So many isues I can see why its low milage.

"fuel pump defect". My 2013 vw Jetta has been randomly stalling out in mid commute within the last few months. I will be driving and the vehicle just cuts off and I have to crank the car back on and being mindful of ongoing traffic. This is increasing becoming an issue as I initially thought it was a random occurrence however as this has repeatedly occurred out of no where when I'm traveling in heavy traffic it has become very scary in an accident occuring. I saw that there is a recall on select vw vehicles however it does not include my vehicle which appears should also be immediately included as this is a serious safety issue with this vehicle.
on June 10, 2017, I had purchased a brand-new car at prime Volkswagen saco, maine with full warranty on it. September 15, 2017, I was with my kids heading down to connecticut. In route on massachusetts 495 south at one point when I pressed the gas pedal to add more power to the car to speed up the car started to shake. I released the gas pedal no shaking occurred. I then again tried adding gas and it started shaking. I then also noticed my engine light had turned on. I was worried so I decided to slow down and pull over into the emergency lane to see what was going on with the car. In the process of slowing down and pulling over to the emergency lane, you could hear a banging sound to me it seemed to be coming from the engine. I called my road side assistance for them to come check out and check my car and they said they don't do that kind of road side assistance for engines that the vehicle must be brought back to a Volkswagen dealership. So, that night my vehicle was towed back to prime Volkswagen saco, maine where it was originally purchased. Three days later I received a call from the service department at prime Volkswagen and they said the fuel in my tank was not pure diesel fuel, that it was contaminated. They tried to tell me I filled the car with gas instead of diesel fuel. I had brought them the receipt when I last filled my tank. It was the morning of my trip heading down to connecticut. I had filled my car from an empty tank to a full tank at big apple on washington avenue right at the bottom of munjoy hill. On that receipt, it states I used fuel pump number three which is a diesel fuel pump. It also shows how many gallons were fueled and the price. After I showed that receipt to the service department of the dealership they then tried to blame the big apple gas station saying that their fuel pumps are contaminated.

Car would not start in the mornings, then it would after sitting awhile. After a couple of weeks before scheduled maintenance, car wouldn't start. Got it to start again, but drove less than a mile and it stall on a busy bridge. Car started up again and then driver could not get it into 4th gear. Coasted in third gear, but when reaching a stoplight, the car stalled yet again. This time car needed to be towed. While starting the car's headlights were flickering and had problems getting enough gas to the necessary components. Dealer once again could not come up with issue. . . Claiming that fuel pump pressure was in range. However, the car's problem can easily be bad pressure since it occurred every time in the morning while the car sat for more than 8 hours. Whether the dealer could do the necessary comparison test for this issue is questionable since it must have been sitting in the garage. The car is currently at another repair shop. We have no documentation at this point. Will provide when available.
Vehicle stalls while in motion on a state highway but coasting to a stop at a traffic signal. Clutch pedal was fully depressed. Has happened about 5 times between July 1, 2017 and August 29, 2017. This vehicle is a diesel. Fuel pump might be loosing power. Weather was dry. Air and fuel filters are not dirty. They were recently replaced.
Randomly stalls on the freeway when down to 1/4 tank of gas. After pulling over and turning off the key and turning the key back on, it will start and run great. This happens about every other time the car gets down to about 1/4 tank. No shop can duplicate the problem or correct it. I have tried the ignition coil, grounds, fuel pump. . . No fix. There are countless threads on various vw forums about this same problem. It is very dangerous to stall on the freeway. Something needs to be done to correct this.
While driving to work on a very busy interstate my 2010 vw Jetta tdi had a check engine light come on, immediately followed by my car stuttering and shutting off immediately. After neing towed to the dealer, I was informed the entire fuel system had to be replaced and that this was a major issues with vw diesels (esp. Years 2009 & 2010). The hpfp had become such a problem that the manufacturer extended the warranty for the fuel system to 120k miles or 10 years. My mileage went over the allotted amount by 5k miles but after many calls to vw customer service they refused any help, they would not cover the $5,000 repair, the $3,000 in parts or anything. They refused any type of help even though they most certainly could have assisted me. It is well known that the fuel pump is poor, even the replacement pumps have a huge failure rate yet vw does nothing to assist their customers. They have failed to produce a hpfp that does not break down and then they make it the customers fault by not recalling the part. These fuel systems should have been replaced as a recall before they cause the car to suddenly stop on a busy interstate. I am thankful that I was not injured but I am furious that I am just one of many that have went through this and been offered no help. We are left to pay the price, one that runs anywhere from $5,000-$9,000. That is an unacceptable repair cost to a vehicle with under 125k miles, and it happens as soon as 6k. The engineers at vw should be held accountable for their poor design, inability to correct it and abandonment of their loyal customers. Vw has shown a complete disregard for human life by failing to properly address this issue.
While maintaining speed at or above 40 mph and with 1/4 tank or less of fuel remaining, my Jetta will consistently stall out and turn off from fuel starvation. This has happened to me between 40 and 80 mph several times, both in the city and on the highway. I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor, the fuel sender, and the fuel pump with no success. Additionally, the Jetta will die the first time I try to start it as my fuel level approaches 1/4, especially if I am parked on an incline. However, it never fails to start on the second try once some fuel has begun moving through the system. Fully refueling alleviates all problems.

Flashing glow plug light with check engine light then died in traffic, would not restart. Dealer diagnosed: diesel high pressure fuel pump catastrophic failure. Pump debris contaminates fuel system, requiring replacement of fuel injectors, lines, low pressure pump, and cleaning fuel tank. Estimated cost $6,700.
The car broke down just after a dash light came on; literally just stopped running. The car would crank but would not turnover. Thank goodness I was able to get off the road and out of harms way. The vehicle was towed to the local vw dealership and they diagnosed. The gentleman I spoke with stated they did not even run the diagnostic because they check the high pressure fuel pump first. When they checked it, they found "metal shavings" and quoted a complete rebuild of the system because "they do not know how far the metal shavings" traveled. The car is out of the manufacture warranty but the mechanic stated he usually sees extended warranties on this type of issue. Not only does this car fall under the emissions lawsuit, now this.
2014 Jetta tsi: opening & closing doors, glove box, and trunk causes the fuel pump to engage, you can even hear it. This causes fumes to accumulate in my garage to a high level. The fuel pump recall has been done per dealership. Imo the fuel pump shouldn't engage until the key is turned in the ignition. It is not a fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source. It is a fuel leak, in the presence of opening & closing doors, glove box, and trunk. I have discussed with vw and their opinion is that "that is the way it works". The vehicle was parked in my single car garage and not running. This continues to happen on a regular bases.
The high pressure fuel pump broke leaving metal shaving in my fuel tank. I had this replaced at 38k miles and now it is broke again at 78k. Vw extended the warranty for 2006-2012 vehicles for 10 yrs or 120k miles. But since my vehicle is a 2013 they will not covered it. I believe they are still using the same faulty fuel pump for the 2013.
My car broke down, I. E. A warning light emitted on the dash. I was able to pull my car over. I turned off the engine and the car would not restart. I had my car towed to the dealership. The dealership informed me my high pressure fuel pump failed and sent pieces of metal into my entire fuel system, and that everything except the fuel tank would need to be replaced. This is a $5400 repair per the vw dealership my car was towed to. Vw of America issued a voluntary extended warranty on this fuel pump to 120k miles. My car broke down at 120,946 miles. I called vw of a to ask if they would cover at least part of my repair as I was not far outside of the warranty window (946 miles) - they said they would do nothing to help me. After talking to the service guy at the vw dealership, he told me he's had three other vw tdi's in there this month alone for the exact same problem. I also talked to another local vw mechanic shop to get another quote for the repair - the owner there said he "knows all about the problem. " thus, it seems that the fuel pump failure I experienced is happening on a large scale to several people who have the same car/fuel system I have. Vw of America also knows about this problem, hence their voluntary extended warranty. It is my opinion that vw of America should have issued a recall for a defect, as opposed to an extended warranty. Both the vw dealership where my car currently is, as well as the local vw mechanic shop I spoke to, are in agreement that the high pressure fuel pump should have been recalled, but that vw of America got out of this costly option by issuing an extended warranty. Any help or insight into this issue that you can afford is greatly appreciated.
While driving up hill on a city street traveling at 40 miles per hour the engine lost power. Fortunately traffic was light at the time and I was able to get to the side of the road before the engine lost all power and later would not restart. . If this was on the highway, I would have been disabled in traffic lanes creating a hazard for myself and others. Various warning lights came on at the time the engine lost power. I later found out the problem was a 'catastrophic' high pressure fuel pump failure. This is a known problem for which Volkswagen has blamed on incorrect or poor fuel. This was not the cause the pump failure in my vehicle and points to problems with the part itself. I learned that Volkswagen provided an extended warranty for high pressure fuel pumps, but only up to the 2012 model year. (my vehicle is a 2013 model. ) my vehicle had 70,657 miles on it at the time the problem occurred.
While on a city street at stopped at a stop light my vw Jetta tdi made a funny noise and shook. Then it acted like it wanted to stall, the glow plug light came on. The stop light changed and I was able to pull into a parking lot. When I pulled into a parking spot before I could take the care out of gear, it stalled. I was not able to get the car to start again. I was told by vw of san bernardino that this was a know issue with the high pressure fuel pump. The recall update was preformed back in 2014 to prevent the incorrect fuel from being placed into the vehicle. I am a long time diesel owner and have never placed the incorrect fuel into the car. I believe there is a defect in the design or material related to the high pressure fuel pump.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer Volkswagen downtown la located at 1900 s figuerca st los angeles CA 90007 where it was informed that the fuel pump and spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not offer and further assistance. The vehicle failure mileage was 92400. Ap.
While driving the car to work last Thursday (07/28/16) the car stalled and rolled to a stop. I had it towed to my mechanic and he indicated that the fuel pump and possibly the injectors need to be replaced. The car had just under 1/4 tank of diesel fuel at the time. There were no error lights or other indication of failure. The vehicle is still at the mechanic, he indicated that the parts are $900 and labor will be additional. Depending on what he finds as he does the repair. He indicated that the injectors may be damaged which would add an additional $1000 for parts plus labor. I didn't take the car to vw because I don't trust them. The ac failed last month and they wanted $1900 for the repair, I brought it to my mechanic and had it repaired for $800. They billed me $200 to tell me the ac was bad. The car currently has 40,000 mile on it. I don't have the repair invoices at this time. Up to the time of the ac failure all work has been completed by vw.
