Wiper Problems of Volkswagen Jetta - part 2

Windshield wipers on medium and high settings, hits a pillar and make a loud tapping metallic every wipe. It's a poor quality sound that gets worse at highway speeds because of added wind stress to wipers. My 2005 beater Nissan sentra wipers operating sounds like a Lexus compared to this 2019 Jetta sel. Told dealer, they tested and confirmed it's a problem. Repaired car with a "wiper arm adjustment". I pick up car and of coarse, wipers still make the stupid noise. I will take back next oil change and push harder. It ruins this cars refinement when its raining, it's so annoying and very noticable.

The wiper blades motor stops working in low temperatures. It has nothing to do with icy blades or frozen snow, it simply does not work when temperatures are very low. Once temperatures go up, they start working again. This is a safety hazard and I can't drive without wiper blades when it snows or rains in low temperature. Vw dealers say they are not responsible for the motors failing and it's us the car owners who have to pay about $600 plus $100 diagnostic for the replacement of the motors. I have read on the internet that many vw cars have the same problem. Think vw should recall all cars with this problem and give us a solution for free.

So inside of my vehicle I am unable to open my trunk by flipping the trunk switch. My left passenger door is unable to function properly. The windows won't toll down, the door is unable to lock and it's stressful because my car got broken into because of it. My right mirror turn signal doesn't function any more when I signal right it signals really fast and it's only signals using my headlight and tail light signals. Sometimes there is a kick to my car when I'm driving and in a couple of occasion when I start my vehicle my car revs up on it's own. Just a bunch of issues it's stressful. .

Factory wipers result in streaking, replaced at less than 5k miles. Problem alleviated. Typical metallic grinding at low speeds, as described by other reports. Passenger led headlight ring excessively dim. Multiple sources report open recall for this, however, no sources including dealer agree my vehicle is included. Several people have pointed out my faulty headlight ring. Review of photos containing vehicle indicate headlight issue was not present at purchase. Can not confirm.

The headliner adhesive for the vehicle has come unglued and is causing the fabric to sag and prevent a clear line of sight. This is a latent safety defect. From a reasonable search on the internet it appears that many Jetta owners have had the same issue, indicating a common manufacturing issue. The adhesive that was used is the same as the adhesive used on the remainder of the interior panels which are also coming off.

The windshield wiper motor is loud and sometimes doesn't work at all. Very intermittent.

All issues written here have been happening since day of purchase, as of June 2018. Vw currently denies issues and claims reports are of normal operation of vehicle. I love this car I just want vw to provide a fix. Vehicle has a continuous grinding noise coming from behind engine area when vehicle is in motion accelerating from 27- 30mph after that it subsides. Sounds of grinding depends what drive mode your are in. Eco has the loudest noise. Many other reports suspect transmission problems. Vehicle while stationary has a strange noise coming from the front left engine area that sounds like a rotation humming grind noise, usually occurs after vehicle was in motion and then stopping at a red light. Vehicle while in motion blind spot monitor on driver side mirror lights up during bad weather even when no vehicle is present in blind spot. Also, can happen when there is no bad weather. Vehicle while in reverse during rain if equiped with drive assist will automatically break stop for you while no vehicle is present. Winsheild wiper blades leave streaking marks into windshield that doesnt go away. Paint also easily chips when pebbles from highways hits the hood of the car. I have taken the vehicle to vw north hills 1cochran pittsburgh PA they stated they do not know about the grinding noise, and it was most likely the turbo charge engine. They also investigated the blind spot monitor stating sensor is dirty just needs cleaned. That's also false becuase after vw north hills 1cochran cleaned it on a clear sunny day as I left the dealership the blind spot monitor came on intermittently. This vehicle at time of report has 23000 miles on it has it drives a lot of highway. Risk of vehicle accident while accelerating usually between 30-80mph with known issues are high. Please investigate.

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the horn became inoperative in cold climates. In addition, the windshield wipers failed. Furthermore, the ignition key became stuck in the ignition on several occasions. An independent repaired the ignition. A dealer was not made aware of the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the ignition failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Wipers do not function properly in cold temperatures. In very cold weather, they will often take 3-5 minutes before moving once turned on. In cool temperatures they will often run at a very slow pace. Changing wiper blades has no effect/impact. This is a wiper arm and/or wiper arm assembly issue and widespread throughout online reports. Vw should be forced to issue a recall.

Defective light switch that controls the headlights, daytime running light low beams and high beams. Daytime running light no longer work, low beams are so dim they are no longer effective.

Takata recall my windsheild wipers do not work properly. Only top speed works. Speed 1 and 2 do not work, only 3.

I have been having problems with my windshield wipers not working when it is cold. I have called the local vw dealer and was told that they haven't heard of this problem and want over a 100. 00 to test for it. I have found that this problem has happened a lot to other owners. I have been stranded with this problem. After it warms up they will work.

The horn which is attached to auto security system stopped working initially when coming in contact with heavy snow fall after moving to indiana from florida after the summer weather arrived it worked for a short time ass soon as the weather and rainfall changed the horn no longer worked, the water dispenser/washer for the wipers stopped working will no longer dispense anything. My vehicle was in use when the issues were noticed, it is driven daily and within a short amount of time it became noticeable that the weather was causing possible a shortage so that the horn or water dispenser refused to cooperate.

My windshield wipers would not move. Temperature was approximately 15 degrees fahrenheit. Fuse was not broken. Motor fine. When it warmed up, the wipers began to work again. My vehicle was stationary initially, but even as I drove for 30 minutes, the wipers would not work.

I live in an area that had over 100 days without rain. The day it finally rained I tried to turn on windshield wipers and they no longer worked. Auto tech states the motor burned out. Upon researching online I noticed this was a common occurrence with this vehicle.

Windshield wipers not functioning when vehicle is in 18 degree and below temperatures for a few hours. Wipers work fine once vehicle is heated up in garage or outside temperatures rise above 18 degrees. Replacement wiper motor assembly was diagnosed and required to correct malfunction. Would like vw to reimburse the $537. 03 out of pocket costs to replace the defective/faulty part. Have seen numerous complaints for same issue online. Thanks and hope vw is listening!.

Windshield wipers do not function in low temperatures. I own a 2012 vw Jetta. I first noticed this during the first snowfall we had. I cleared the vehicle of all snow and made sure that the wipers were not frozen to the windscreen. Getting back in the vehicle I went to turn the wipers on and they did not move. The relay inside of the car can be heard clicking, but the wipers do not move. I was forced to drive with extremely low visibility as I was not able to clear the incoming snow off of my windscreen. When I arrived safely back home I moved the car to a garage in order to see if I could figure out the issue. Upon being turned off and standing in the garage the wipers began to work again when I turned the vechile over. The same thing has now happened 3 times. Two of these instances occurring without any snowfall, just low temperatures. The relay can be heard clicking but the wipers do not move. The fuses are all in their proper position and are not blown. There are a large amount of complaints online about other people experiencing the same issues of inoperable windshield wipers. This is a severe safety concern as having good visibility is one of the most crucial factors in preventing accidents. The wipers usually seem to become operational again once the vehicle is warmed in the sun or if the ambient temperature rises about 30 or so degrees fahrenheit.

If the outside temperature goes below approximately 15 degrees fahrenheit, the wipers fail to operate. This can happen when the vehicle has been parked, or during operation. This has happened several times and from indications on the internet, is a known safety problem.

Windshield wipers will not turn on when temperatures reach below 30 degrees. Happens at initial start up. A real safety issue. When temperatures are above 30 degrees this doesn't happen.

Takata recall - I am just giving notice that my airbags may be faulty and may need a replacement. Thank you very much.

Gauge backlight intensity control violates "49 cfr 571. 101 - standard no. 101; controls and displays" this report is echo from NHTSA id number: 11025444 that another Jetta having the exact same issue. First, basic issue is, automatic gauge backlight intensity controls till zero while driving on day time, but the zero level under darker ambient lighting surround area is preventing driver to check speed that violating the regulation. Second, the fact that many of vw models with this lighting sensor has the same control of the gauge and this reporting issue is not a single car or a single model year issue. In my case, both 2016 and 2017 has the same issue. Third, additional fact I found out in the night time, at very dark environment, I have found the graphical lcd panel in the center of the gauges, entertainment control lcd panel and the both rev gauge and speed gauge needles are also controlled intensity, but never darker than the brightness while headlight on. With above fact, I understand vw's intention and idea is right, controlling the backlight while in the daytime, but the gauge backlight is way below brightness than nighttime and till zero backlight, while needles, graphic panel, and entertainment system is controlled as ideal range. So far, vw of America customer care said this is exactly the design, but zero intensity backlight is violating the regulation "s5. 3. 2 brightness of illumination of controls and indicators" under "49 cfr 571. 101 - standard no. 101; controls and displays. Within three to four days I've had two door windows blow out while driving. Nothing hit the windows. One day I was driving on the interstate and the other time I was driving onto the interstate ramp going approximately 40 miles/hour. This is baffling!.

Issue on zero intensity of the instruments gauge illumination during the daytime I have experienced the dimmed instrument gauges on my 2017 Jetta and confirmed this is due to the automatic illumination adjustment feature of the model. This report covers only for the specific VIN, however, the issue is caused by the design, any model year Jetta and the same design architecture models from vw will have the same issue. I have experienced the issue under bright sunlight while driving on the regular street, but a bit of shady area by nearby tree or building. Even I'm using the sunglasses due to the reflection of sun light or direction of the car facing to at that time. My 2017 Jetta has light sensor in between a bit offset position of tachometer letter "7" and "8", that is about 1/4 inch or 5 mm diameter in size, and this sensor controls the illumination of both tachometer and speed gauge. (graphic lcd display and needles keeps the full brightness. ) it will be dark if surrounding is dark and becomes bright if surrounding is brighter. This controls too much and becomes zero intensity is not acceptable according to the regulation "s5. 3. 2 brightness of illumination of controls and indicators" under "49 cfr 571. 101 - standard no. 101; controls and displays. " I did contact with vw of America to inform this issue, but customer care representative cannot do anything beyond diagnostic result at dealer that they are insisted the vehicle operated as spec. It is very simple to replicate the same issue at any location, without driving and without turn on the engine. It just simply covering the light sensor area by the palm or any cloth to imitate the darkness while ignition is on. It is even darker than illumination while headlight on at that time for experiment. Again, this is under the daylight.

The wiper motor and the fluid washer pump are ill engineered and have a tendency to burn out very quickly. Both the wiper motor and fluid washer pump on my Jetta have to be replaced at a cost of approximately $1,000. This is not acceptable in a car that is less than 4 years old, and under 58,000 miles. Either the design of the systems is poor, or vw is using inferior parts that quickly are obsolete. It is not safe to have cars that wiper motors burn out that quickly (and without notice) and it is also not safe to have fluid pumps that wear out that quickly. It affects visibility and driving safety.

When vehicle subjected to cold temperatures (below freezing) the wiper motor stops working. When vehicle placed in warm garage wipers work again. This has happened on several occasions over the last year. Wiper motor was replaced by vw dealership. New motor is a new part number. It appears the old wiper motor design may have been defective allowing moisture to enter where drive shaft enters motor. New wiper motor has improved rubber seal in this area.

When parked overnight with temperatures in the lower teens, the windshield wipers do not work the next morning. If I warm the car up for 20 minutes or so and then let it sit for another half hour then they will usually work. This has happened four or five times from 12/2016 - 2/2017. Seems worse if it has been snowing or icing overnight. When they are working there are no signs of hesitation or slow movement. The fact that it is random seems unusually dangerous. Sitting in the driveway or moving does not make any difference. Car has 52000 miles. There have been several reports from other people with this issue. Should warrant an investigation.

When cold, the windshield wipers won't work until it warms up enough. If your driving and it gets cold, like during snowstorm, they quit working. I have looked online and have encountered many instances of this. The cost is around $500 to $1000 for parts and labor for. . . , maybe the motor, maybe the wiper transmission, maybe both. Nonsense! this is a huge safety issue. Please do something and issue a recall for this problem is occurring with different vehicles over many year models. Just do an online search for windshield wiper problems and narrow the results to wipers won't work when its cold. Dealer says we've never encountered that. I can't believe it if they know what they have to replace. Please help. People are in danger.

Ongoing issue: in cold weather, the wiper blades will not work. Generally anytime below freezing temperatures. In a few instances, if I turn the wipers on and off, on and off, they will begin to work. But that is quite infrequent. In the winter months. The biggest problem while driving is the wet salt will cloud the windshield and need to be cleaned. The wiper fluid will squirt out, and stay splashed where it landed on the windshield. The wiper blades will not engage. Only a click-click. I then need to pull over and wash the melted salt and squeegee the wiper fluid off of the windshield at the gas station. And then pray the window stays clean for the remaining portion of my drive to work. Or pull over again and clean the windshield by hand. Vw dealer had quoted $400 to "look at replacing the motor" but would not guarantee that will solve the issue. I have had this vehicle for almost 4 years and the problem has been here since I owned the car. I have not invested any money into a repair, as vw dealer does not seem to know what the problem is.

Purchased 2012 vw Jetta new at local vw dealership. Currently has approx 51,000 miles on it. At around 29,000 miles ignition switch would not shut off while I was shopping-took to dealershipi and was told it was fixed- had just stuck. Less than a month later same thing happened. Dealership had the car for weeks-(this time they did provide loaner car). Most recent- prior to ignition problem currently occurring I had to have wiper motor replaced at my cost $600. 00 plus dollars. I sat in waiting area of dealership that clearly stated we provide loaner car or shuttle service at time of your appt. Neither available on that day. I addressed this issue with service manager who was off that day. Received apologetic e-mail. Have had to replace headlight bulb and needs replaced again. Could this be an electrical issue? is this car even safe to drive my grandchildren in? I am not feelin comfortable with it. Presently as I am writing this my car has been running for 18 hours. Ignition stuck Friday eve- service dept not open on sat. When I called Friday eve basically I was told "get it over here somehow and we will take a look". Presently weighing my options-needless to say I am extremely disappointed with the purchase of my first new vw. Previously had owned two used vw golf. Note: first time I was fortunately close to vw garage which is a 40 minute drive from my house-fortunate again this time that it's sitting in my driveway running until I can figure out a plan. The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving in the rain at approximately 30 mph, the windshield wipers and horn failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v196000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA without filing a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving 35 mph, the contact attempted to activate the front driver's side window switch, but it failed to function. As a result, the window remained in the downward position. The contact also stated that the window switch previously failed to depress intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.

1) seatbelt indicator sounds when drives belt is connected and is the only one in the vehicle; no one or items are in any of the other seats (same issue as in the 2006 Jetta). 2) wiper motor failed - wipers worked intermittently when functioning. 3) headliner is separating and drooping in rear and obstructing the view through the rear view mirror (same issue as in the 2006 Jetta). 4) ignition coil's and map sensor are continuously failing (same issue as in the 2006 Jetta).

Car was taken into dealership in April 2015 for inspection. Needed new struts and driver door panel, door needed fixed due to no lights on locks and door itself would not lock. Paid $1400 for everything when picking up the car, got in car and radio did not work when picking up. Said it was a fuse, never fixed the problem. September 2015 windshield wipers quit working. $45 for that repair. 2-3 weeks later battery died. Replaced the battery for $111. 3-4 weeks later battery was dead again, had to tow it to shop. Replaced battery again $200+ parts and labor. 3-4 weeks later after replacing the battery twice, same thing happens again. Car is dead, towed to shop again. Can't figure out the problem, towed to dealership. Taken to a dealership for one problem of the car being dead now there is a shifter problem and the abs unit needs replaced. The abs lights were not on while the car was at the last shop before this dealership. The car hasn't been driven for approximately 5-6 months if not longer due to these issues. How does my abs unit need replaced if it hasn't been driven?.

Over the past few days it has been raining heavily & although it has happened to me once before this time is what worse. My car is leaking from somewhere & its coming on the inside. My carpets are constantly wet, my airbags alongside windshield leak, and the handle where you open the hood of the car is literally a stream of water entering the car during heavy rainfall. The airbag light has come on and the check engine. I was more concerned with the check engine light so I went and got it checked. The code came up as u0155 - which refers to (lost communication with instrument panel cluster (ipc) control module) meaning my entire dashboard needs to be replaced because of this leaking ! I have taken my car on multiple occasions to vw dealership for servicing (never for this problem) and they never once told me anything about cleaning the sunroof drains every two years as maintenance, it is visible to the naked eye that my sunroof is messed up because when I purchased it the lining on the car around the sunroof is drooping and I cannot open the sunroof because of this. I never thought of it as a big deal because I don't use a sunroof but how was I supposed to know there was a leak without anyone telling me that was even possible. I looked up this problem online, that's how I know what's wrong with my car. I refuse to get it "diagnosed" and spend over 200$ on just a diagnosis when I already know what the problem is and they'll end up charging way more to actually fix the problem. This is my first car and I don't know much of anything about cars except keeping up with oil and filter changes, fuel injectors, and changing my tires when the tread is getting low. I have done all of that at each checkpoint since I purchased at 63,000 miles. There is so much condensation inside I can barely see out my windows, I have sit for at least a half hour car on to be able to see & drive.

My horn does not consistently work. When I'm driving it only works sometimes due to believed to be faulty electrical. My door locks do not engage. A noise sounds but they do not engage causing safety issue. My wiper blades do not always work correctly nor do they spray wiper spray causing visibility issues. My electrical system is faulty causing one door to stay unlocked unless locked with key. My alarm system does not work. My driver side window does not properly work and will stop in the down position. The same door is having locking issue. There is known recall for other 2011 models on electrical system. I called vw and they said my VIN was not affected by the recall. I'm having the same issues as other Jetta owners with same year make and model and with active recall but vw refuses to fix my car. I could get into accident due to faulty horn, faulty door locks, faulty visibility and wipers that do not work properly. My electrical system is clearly faulty if all of these issues are failing at once. I took my vehicle to firestone and they said faulty computer issues need to be fixed by vw. The vehicle is only 5 years old.
