2 Dash Wiring problem of the 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle

Failure Date: 04/04/2005

I own a 1998 Volkswagen beetle. About a year ago the electrical system malfunctioned and I was locked in my car. Fortunately I was able to get out using a new remote I had just purchased. Secondly, two days ago I was driving on an interstate, it was warm, and I turned on the fan. It immediately started blowing 'high' and wouldn't turn off. Within a minute the dashboard began smoking and there was a distinct eletrical smell. I stopped, raised the hood and there was no fire. The fan stuck in the 'high' position and caused a fire which 'totalled' the car. The dash and seats melted and the front windshield broke out from the flames.

4 Dash Wiring problem of the 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle

Digital odometer "goes out" and the characters change while the car is sitting or while starting. I don't know if this is bad or not, but it doesn't seem normal. I've been to the dealer at least 5 times with no fix or urgency to find out what the problem might be. Cluster was replaced once.

5 Dash Wiring problem of the 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

Failure Date: 12/27/2001

On 12/27/01 while driving my 2000 vw beetle to work all the dashboard lights started to flash and make a clicking sound. I then smelled wires burning. I got out of my car , called my husband as I was not expecting the car to catch on fire. Within minutes I noticed smoke and then flames coming from beneath the drivers side dash. I then called 911 but the car was fully engulfed in flames by the time the f. D. Got there. The fire station is aprox. 1 mile from the incident. Vw has been deaf to my complaint.
