Airbag light came on. I took it in and they said it is caused by a bad wiring harness in the drivers seat, something to do with the seatbelt latch. It is my understanding that the airbags will not work if the light is on. There should be a recall. Consumers should not have to pay for a manufacturer defect! there have been numerous complaints, yet vw has yet to recall this part. Are they waiting until someone dies?.

Headlight went out while starting the car. Dealer found a burned wiring harness to be the cause. Cost to repair $ 159. 31. This could have been a major problem if both head lights would have gone out while traveling on a dark hwy at high speed. Burned wiring harness is in my possession. Second problem was with a brake light that went out date 10/30/07. Cause as per dealer was a faulty light socket. Cost to repair $ 73. 61.

: the contact stated the vehicle had difficulties starting. The service dealer replaced the wiring harness. The air bag and check engine lights illuminated, and the key was hot when removed from the ignition. The electric windows malfunctioned; opened and closed without warning. The service dealer determined the malfunctions were due to a seatbelt. The manufacturer was not contacted.
Headlamp assembly shorting out and burning assembly beyond repairable. Heat being produced by headlamp too high and shorts out headlight. Replacement of assembly is an option, but cause of assembly shorting out is not removed, with high probability of a repeat short.

Like many others we had high hopes and dreams for our new 2003 beetle, we thought wrong. Like many others I am finding more and more complaints about these vehicles and this car just follows the trend. As for the classic Volkswagen dealership, they have blessed us with one of the worst customer service experiences that we have ever encountered from a car dealership. The vehicle is now sitting at the dealership awaiting a new wiring harnesses for the turn signals and headlights (since the electrical jobs did not correct the problem the first 3 times). We are very calm and understanding people and gone in every time with a semi-positive attitude and asked them to just fix the problem. After biting my lip the 4th time I went to the service manager (pierre andre) and explained the issue to him. Pierre's immediate reaction was to pawn the issue to a service advisor (brian alexander who gives excellent presentations on partially burned out bulbs). After becoming a thorn to pierre he made an un-grateful attempt to diagnose the problems with the car, I had to force him to take accountability for the issue. To keep a long story short I have heard every excuse from this deal ship including but not limited partially burned out bulbs, corroded sockets, loose wiring harnesses, defective wiring harnesses, sun damage, user damage, road damage. We also made several attempts to contact the dealership head manager/president ken emerson who never attempted to contact us by any means. In several attempts to escalate the issue to a higher authority I was given the vw corporate 1-800-blowup number, which provided us several useless options. At this point we are biting the bullet and planning an attempt of the florida lemon law; if we do not succeed we will sell it to some person who wants a project vehicle.
At and after 30,000 miles many mechanical failures including 2 alternators replaced, 2 batteries replaced, epc light had come on twice, brake light defaults, signal light defaults. Most of this waas fixed under warranty, however, the a/c system stopped working at 65,000 miles and is not a freon issue. The a/c was not covered under warranty.
The vehicle's speed dropped dramatically, and then stalled. The vehicle experienced the following: the lights would come on, would not come out of park(repeatedly), lock up, sit for hours/frozen, start but not come out of park, abs and epc light problems which was fixed under warranty and was told the overload problems should have been fixed, while driven, the vehicle dropped down to 30 mph and down to 20 mph on another occasion, the motor sounded loud and the vehicle had shaken, the dealer found three fault code for throttle control and faulty throttle body(dealer assured consumer that the problem wouldn't happen again), and the consumer was told that there was a misfire on all cylinders and that the plug wires were replaced. On one occasion where vehicle did not come out of park, the dealer suggested that the problem had come from the brake switch and assured that the freeze up(s) were solved. The vehicle sat for five hours, then the vehicle finally started and the dealer stated that the problem was the wiring harness to the ecm(the part had to be ordered).
Car was parked and caught fire-total loss, was this an electrical failure or vandalism.
