1 Body problem of the 2021 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

There is a headlight chrome accent piece right above the left headlight that one day just blew off the vehicle when driving down the highway. Oddly enough, I live in a small town of mason city, IA and I saw another vw passet (same year) missing the same exact piece so I know this is a vehicle defect. You also can not just replace this one part, it costs over $1,000 to replace the full headlight assemble. I hope others report this defect as this is very dangerous when you have chrome pieces flying off your vehicle when it is not even windy and the vehicle has never had any other damage.

3 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/19/2022

The drivers door lock will stop working, in freezing temperatures and keep the interior door handle from unlocking the door. This morning I had to get out my passenger door, and that could be a problem in an emergency situation. The car/latch assembly is available for inspection. The problem has been reproduced and TSB# 57-14-01 documents it. No warning lamps, indicators, noises, etc that the latch will not happen. You pull the handle, and the door does not open.

5 Body problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/21/2022

Electronic control module, electronic body module starts going out, it will not let you open the doors from the outside without rolling the windows down and sometimes won't even let you open them with the inside door handles. This is a major safety issue in a wreck or fire especially if you cannot get out of the car. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. For a vehicle that everyone complains about with this, and as expensive as it is to fix, are you going to wait until someone dies to make them fix it? when people complain if someone would just google these issues you would find out just because not everyone knows about NHTSA, that these are extremely common issues that need to be fixed by volkswagon!.

6 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/25/2022

In 2022 I was in an accident on the highway; a dear hit my car while I was traveling at 70 mph. My airbags did not deploy and I ended up hitting my head on the driver side window really hard and it gave me a concussion and I injured one of the disks in my back. I almost got hit by semi trucks traveling behind me as well. Again, my airbags didn’t deploy after this and I’ve seen many recalls on the 2014 vw Passat specifically about the vehicles airbag deployment being that they’re also takata airbags that had major recalls too. They should’ve deployed on a head on collision. My insurance didn’t total my car but I have proof that the entire frame was bent from the accident and my entire front headlight, fender and bumper are smashed in and wires for my transmission were severed. I still haven't settled this claim yet. I’m considering getting a lawyer about it.

Failure Date: 12/27/2020

This past Sunday, my son was driving on 95 and the driver's side front wheel exploded off the car while driving. He did not hit anything, nor did he get a flat tire. The metal holding the tire literally broke, the wheel came off the car causing the car to drop on the front axle while he was doing 65 mph on the highway.

My air bags didn't provide any assistance related to my safety! I want to know if their are any recalls on the air bags for this vehicle. Model.

11 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/15/2020

Driver side door hinge becomes loose. Service member stated "this is a common issue with the cars".

12 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/12/2020

My fiance was taking a left turn crossing a busy road during hours of dusk. Headlights were on. He was not able to see the opening of the road when turning and drove over the side walk and crashed. Front air bags deployed and windshield cracked. 3 tired popped along with other font end body damage. I had just purchased car from a dealership a few months earlier. Later I researched any recalls on my vehicle and a recall dealing with headlight issues and the headlights on my vehicle not being able to be adjusted properly, came up. If this issue was fixed before I bought the car, my fiance would have not crashed.

13 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

The driver door will not open from the outside or inside. There are many reports that his occurs in cold climates due to water getting into the lock actuator mechanism. If you cannot open a door to exit the vehicle, that is a significant safety concern.

14 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/23/2019

Drivers door handle will not open from the inside and vw wants a ton to repair it. On the forums & internet they stated we should be opening a case here as its a known issue and should be recalled.

15 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/19/2019

I attempted to enter my vehicle, but the driver side door would not open. The car was stationary. The temperature was below 30f. After finally getting in the car, I was not able to exit the car through the driver side door because it was still stuck. The car had been driven around 40 miles before getting to my destination. The car was stationary and not running while trying to get out. I could have become trapped in this vehicle in an emergency. I am not extremely mobile and had a lot of issues exiting the car.

16 Body problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/19/2019

2016 vw Passat. Driver's side door latch freezes shut in temperatures below freezing. The key-less entry fob unlocks the door but the door cannot be opened when pulling the handle. Also, the inside handle will not open the door. All of the other door latches work normally. Weather conditions are good. . . No ice, snow or freezing rain. Just the temperature is below freezing. This is a potential life threatening safety issue if someone were to drive the car and not be able to exit in an emergency. It is possible to enter the car from the passenger side, slide over to the driver's side and drive the car. When the temperature rises above freezing, the latch works.

17 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/03/2019

Fuel tank door doesn't open.

18 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/27/2019

The problem below was first experienced when the car was stationary on a city street. The driver door fails to open after being exposed to cold temperatures of about 32f or less. The exterior handle behaves as usual, but does not disengage the latch located in the door jam. During these episodes, the interior handle has a unnatural amount of resistance, so much so that the operator will cease pulling on the handle in fear of damaging the components. Sometimes the door will regain it's normal operation after pressing the lock and unlock button multiple times on the interior drivers side panel. Locking and unlocking the car from the passenger's panel will not yield the same results. When it's executed from the passenger panel, the drivers door lock does not audibly engage and disengage. Please note, even after managing to open the door at the beginning of a trip, does not mean it will open when you arrive at your destination. I've experience this multiple times when departing my place of residence (did not leave until the door was 'fixed') and then arriving at work. This issue is well known in the more recent models of Volkswagen Passats as search engines yield a multitude of results. It was first noticed in the early months of 2019, did not persist over the summer, and began again in November of 2019.

19 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/11/2019

The driver door latch. When in freezing temperatures, the door latch will not open/close. When unlocking/locking the car, you can hear the door latch mechanism trying to unlock/lock but will not. All other doors are working appropriately. I've had to climb though the passenger side to attempt to open the driver door with excessive force. If I am able to open the door from the passenger side, it will then not securely close and lock. However, there have been multiple instances where I cannot get the door open-thus rendering me without transportation/use of my car. There was one instance last winter season, on a freezing morning, where I had to open my car door through the passenger side. I was able to close and lock my door, so I drove to work. However, when rounding a corner when turning, my driver door swung open. Thankfully, myself and no one else was harmed. I then had to hold my door closed while driving the remaining 1/4 mile to work. The latch issue only happens in freezing temperatures to the drivers side door. If it warms later the same day, it will then work appropriately. During the instance where my door opened-while driving to work there was no door open alarm signaling in the car, nor continuous noise of the latch mechanism trying to lock. I have taken my car in 11/11/19 to address this issue and other maintenance,, where the service technician admitted to this being a common complaint of this issue/scenario and that vw has come out with an updated part. This is a known safety issue by their facility.

20 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

Takata inflators I got into a vehicle collision with another vehicle and suffered a concussion due to my airbags failing to deploy in my vehicle.

21 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

We have had to replace the actuators on three of the four door locks over the last two years. The locks ceased to function leaving us with a car we could not lock. When driving the actuators would constantly click trying to lock. The last one was repaired at our expense on 14 may 2019 ( we paid for all three repairs ).

22 Body problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Driver's side mirror becomes loose and a loud whistling sound is made when driving over 30 miles per hour. This is a manufacturer defect as it just started happening a couple of weeks after purchasing the car as a certified used vehicle. The dealer told me the warranty would not cover it. The door panel would have to be removed and a new mirror installed with no guarantee that it would not do it after replacement.

23 Body problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

Fuel filler door opens intermittently. Not good when attempting to fill car with gas, and the door won't open. There is no manual release for this, and you would have to break parts to get to the fuel filler cap.

24 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

On March 7, 2019 problem began with all door locks clicking. All locks making noise when starting out driving or turning. Driver's door would not lock. Reset all doors with key, except driver's side door, which was not optional. Driver's door still would not lock. Also driver's door would not close latch unless hit lock butter. On March 8, 2019 driving to work, with car in motion on city street, drove over railroad tracks and driver's door flew open. After coming to stop and closing door, the door would not latch even when hitting lock button. Had to tie bungee cord from driver's door to passenger door to drive home from work. Travel to and from work requires long miles on interstate. Has placed me in extremely dangerous situation. Driver door still will not lock and will not close and latch. Will not be able to drive the car safely until door latch and locks are fixed. We request a recall review and repairs by Volkswagen are made.

25 Body problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

When it rains the car gets flooded causing the whole wiring system through the car to get damage. The car will suddenly lose power and die as your driving. Seems to happen. When on highway most. The car will not start or crank. I've had to vacuum the floor boards and trunk, search for damaged wires, change relays as well as camshaft position sensor, and fuel pump. As well as sensors. Trying to get it running again. Also the transmission jerks very hard when trying to go into reverse and most of the time in slips out of gear within1or 2 seconds.

26 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/14/2018

My 2013 vw Passat 3. 6 sel has major problems with the lighting, seat belts, and body. The fog lights, and front marker lights keep blowing out on the vehicle. The seat belts lose tension while driving, and there is body roll on the vehicle due to substandard body construction. My 2005 vw Passat v6 4motion had a much safer, higher quality body construction than my 2013 vw Passat 3. 6 sel. It's quite obvious the executives at Volkswagen of America, and Volkswagen ag in wolfsburg, germany aren't interested in building safe, quality vw Passat's. They are only interested in sacrificing quality, and safety to save a dollar.

27 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/13/2018

I went to open my driver side door, and it wouldn't unlock. I climbed across from the passenger side where the door would open. When I pulled the lever from the inside the door opened on the driver side. But now it wouldn't latch to firmly close. It would just hit and pop open a little bit. I went to bommarito volkswagon in st. Peters, missouri and they refused service. This is a safety issue not caused by user error. Warranty or not, this should not happen to a vehicle that is only 6 years old. I discussed it with the dealer, about pricing and they refused service and forced me to drive off their lot with an unsafe vehicle where I had to manually hold the door shut. I also requested the takata airbag be replaced and they forced me to leave with threat of calling the police for an issue they refused to fix despite neve raising my voice and just trying to to discuss the situation with the dealer.

28 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

I keep having a problem in freezing weather with my vehicle door mechanism freezing locked. I can not get into of out of the car once frozen. This is specifically the driver side door. I have looked up the issue and people have had to replace the door actuator. Vw has issued a service bulletin to the dealers but no recall. There is over one hundred thousand views on youtube related to this issue and I doubt people are just watching this because they are bored. I believe this to be a safety issue as I can not get into my vehicle when below freezing and if it is really cold I can not get out until the outside temperature raises enough. I have been having to crawl through the passenger side on cold days. This has came up quite a bit when the car is parked outside on really cold days. From what I have read it seems water can get into the actuator and then the problem happens. Usually the heater in the car will thaw the door by the time I get to where I am going but if the temp is really cold I will still be locked in the driver side. This started last year but I tried grease and oil hoping it would fix the problem but this is on going.

29 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

Driver's side door frozen shut in winter and upon opening handle/lock became inoperable resulting in failure of door to remain closed/locked during operation - door would swing open on turns presenting a safety hazard. Research suggests that this is a known problem.

30 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/28/2018

While slightly turning the steering wheel when backing out of a parking space, air bag light came. There is no communication from the steering wheel controls leaving the horn in-operational. Garvey volkswagon assessed vehicle and concluded it is due to the clock spring failing internally. When temperature drops below freezing, locks will not unlatch. The door handle will not move and the doors can not be opened until the latches unfreeze.

31 Body problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

While driving 2009 vw Passat wagon on I-495 south in haverhill, MA, at around 5 pm, smoke suddenly began billowing out of the vents. Driver was able to pull onto the shoulder safely (near exit 48/ mile marker 105. 6) and exit the car, which was engulfed in flames within a minute. No passengers, no injuries, no other cars were damaged. Up to this point, the car had been functioning normally. No overheating, no leaking, no warning lights, no other indication of impending fire. Massachusetts state police from the andover barracks responded (978-475-3800), as did the haverhill fire department. Charred remains of the car were towed to trombly brothers, 141 sutton st north andover, MA 01845. Of note: upon arriving home, there was a recall notice from vw in the postal mail, NHTSA number 17v509, regarding the fuel pump control module.

32 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/29/2018

Wolfsburg edition. In Feb 2018 at 40,000 miles the passenger seatbelt failed and needed to be replaced. The rear door latch also failed and needed to be replaced at the same time. Now at June 29, 2018 at 46,000 miles the driver side seatbelt has failed and will need to be replaced. The airbag recall was completed at 40,000 miles also. Safety equipment should be designed to last and these seatbelts have already failed throughout the car.

33 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/20/2018

Driver side door would not close. Door lock latch mechanism failed. Cannot drive car if door won't stay latched. Independent shop replaced mechanism. Based upon internet search, it appears that door latch failed seems common which was a surprise.

34 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Sunroof exploded at highway speeds for no apparent reason. No other cars, overpasses, or other road debris in area which could have caused issue.

35 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

Driver door handle sticks in cold weather and won't open from the outside. When crawling across from passenger side to open driver door from the inside, something broke very easily. I was able to open the door, but now my drivers door wontlock in place to stay shut. Very dangerous to try driving with the door swinging open at every curve.
