36 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/26/2017

The front right fender liner does not cover a hole that allows snow and water to get into the fresh air blower inside the cabin. When it is very cold outside (which is happens all the time in montana) the water that has contacted the blower motor will freeze, in turn not allowing the fresh air blower to turn. When the fresh air blower does not turn, there is no defrost or heat in the cabin. I drove home and had to go through snow that was on the road. This snow was thrown up into an uncovered hole and got into the blower housing. The next morning I went to start the car and had no blower motor. This is the 4th time this has happened to me. I was driving to work when this particular issue happened, and I had to scrape the window every 30 seconds to ensure that I could see where I was going. I was also very very cold considering the outside temperature was 0 degrees fahrenheit. I was lucky enough to be in a situation that I was to get to a warm place fast enough that my feet did not freeze off. Volkswagen had acknowledged this problem and has created a technical service bulletin about the issue. They will not cover any cost of this obvious design flaw. The bulletin number is group 87, no. 15-15. The repair requires a new fender liner, a new hvac air inlet cover, a new water deflector, a new plenum chamber cover, and a new cabin air filter, as seen in the technical bulletin.

37 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/03/2017

The driver side door has been having the issue where it first will not open from the outside. Then after a few weeks it started to not open from the inside. Eventually it got to the point where it will not even latch so it's very much a safety hazard. Nothing has caused this to happen to the drivers side door. I have seen several complaints online in reference to this exact same issue. The vehicle has never been in a wreck and only has 50k miles on it.

38 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

39 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/17/2017

I got in an accident on the interstate back in the summer of 2017. . I hit a deer going 70 mph. Airbags went off and the body of my car was obviously damaged. After that my car has had oil leaks, break issues, "air bag errors", and way more to list.

40 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/13/2017

I have a recalled takata air bag in my vehiclke. I dodged a dog in the road and hit the guard rail where it is buried in the ground. My passet traveled 15-20 feet up the gaurd rail. The car was very damaged and my air bag did not deploy. The state patrolman and the tow truck were confused why the airbag didn't deploy. I was in motion about 75 ft from where I turned left onto the jhwy 96. The speed limit is 45mph. I as going about 20 mph. I turned from a county street onto CO 96.

41 Body problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/12/2017

I preface this by saying this is my first keyless car and I don't like it. It is sometimes confusing as to whether the car is running or off and the ignition button looks identical in both scenarios. On June 12, I parked my car (it was stationary) and took my dog into her day care center. While I was in there, my car apparently rolled out of the lot and came to rest on a sidewalk. Thankfully, no one was injured and only the bumper and rear light were impacted. While I thought I put the car in park, I may have accidentally have left the car in drive when I turned the car off and this is my concern. With keyed systems, the safety mechanism is that one cannot remove the key until the car is properly in park (I assume others have done this). With the keyless, I parked, pulled the emergency brake, took my keys, locked the door and left the car. I don;t have photos but I do have the security camera footage of the car moving.

42 Body problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

Volkswagen Passat 2007 Passat water leak footwell that causes passenger side airbag damaged : suddenly after a rainy day, water comes from sunroof to the passenger side footwell and made carpet wet and stores water below the carpet. That caused passenger side 's airbag malfunction results in airbag fault. I went to the dealer and they told me it happens with some vw cars and please get your car checked for water leak. They told that they are not responsible for neither the airbag nor the water leak. I believe there was too much water below the carpet which directly puts the integrity of the safety in danger since it the electronic parts and wires were in water for long time.

45 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/09/2017

Concerning issue description from "in extreme outside cold temperatures the front door latches may freeze (due to moisture), preventing door latch from operating. " my car was parked outside of my apartment in columbus, indiana. The ambient temperature was 28 f. Front driver's door latch can't be opened from outside nor inside. I have unlocked the door using remote and all other three doors can be opened. I'm concerned if an accident occurs, I'll be trapped inside because I can't open the door on driver's side.

46 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/09/2016

Door latch freezes in cold weather due to moisture inside the door and prevents opening of doors. I could not exit my vehicle using the drivers door and had to enter and exit through the passenger side. I took the car to vw dealership and they have acknowledged and verified my concern. Technician noted that there was moisture inside the door and the door locks were frozen and not operational. Vw installed new door latch, cables and butyl tape to prevent moisture entering the latch mechanism. I have a friend with 2013 Passat and he has experienced this problem multiple times and mentioned this to his service advisor, however they were unable to verify his concern because locks were operational each time he came back to the service center. While browsing the internet for similar symptoms I have found this is a common problem in cold weather. Please see links below. First link is my personal video that I took before taking the vehicle for service. Https://www. Youtube. . Read more...

47 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

Twice, on may 12 and on October 22, while in a parking lot and pulling into a vertical parking spot at very low speed, I tapped the accelerator, and suddenly the car rapidly sped up. I was unable to stop it with the brake pedal, and I hit a brick planter the first time it happened, and I hit the post holding up the front of a building the second time. The brake pedal on the Passat is approximately 3" wide and located only an inch or so from the accelerator. It is possible that I hit both pedals while trying to stop the vehicle, but that does not explain the sudden acceleration that caused the car to jump the curb and hit the planter and the building. Frightening situation. I wasn't injured the first time but was fairly well shaken up the second. The body shop said the damage to the vehicle was almost exactly the same each time. I took the car to t he vw dealer after the first accident, but they said there was nothing wrong.

48 Body problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/21/2016

Takata recall: vw traveling in right most lane of 4 lane city street when vehicle in opposing lane made an illegal left on turn in front of the vehicle to the left of vw. 49 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

My 13 Passat se 2. 5 started having an issue with the rear passenger door lock about three weeks ago. The normal operation of the locks is that when the vehicle hits 10mph the door will automatically lock. After this has happened and I come to a stop light or slow down below 10mph and then speed up again, the rear passenger lock tries to lock itself again.

51 Body problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/05/2016

I was slowing down and pulling into a parking spot in front of a restaurant for lunch. My 2016 vw passt v6 suddenly swirled to the left, jumped over curbs, and busted all four tires because of the impact. Towed to the dealer and was told that I could stepped on gas instead of break ot it could be the parking assistance took over the control of the car. When they replaced my tires,, they found an open record/campaign as described "96d6 2016-05-04 w-update - park assist and blind spot detection (nvlw). " I am not sure what this record means. Is it related to my incident? I wonder if anyone could help me understand this?.

52 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/30/2016

1. Attempted to open the driver's side door on the vehicle after a cold night with below-freezing temperatures. The door would not open, and attempting to open it from the inside after gaining access to the vehicle through the passenger's side door left the door unable to latch shut. 2. The failure is with the locking mechanism and latch on the door. This was the first time it occurred. 3. Took the car to the dealer where the door latch was replaced in total with a new part and the window regulator was adjusted.

54 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/09/2016

The passenger side front door latch fails while I'm driving the car. The door has opened on its own numerous times as I am driving the car at speed. The latch fails at rest while the car is on or off, and as the car is moving down the road. The door quite literally flies open while the car is in motion and will not latch unless the car is shut off and restarted several times.

55 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

57 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/20/2015

Driver side door seals allows water to enter door and onto latch which causing the latching mechanism to freeze shut. The freezing of the door inhibits the driver from being able to exit the car in an emergency of car travels from a wet environment to below freezing environment. This has happened two times in the past 2 months where temperatures were in the upper 30's then fell below freezing. Once when the car was in motion also. When the car is stationary, one has to enter the car from the passenger side, if the door unlocks and opens, to enter and exit the car. On once occasion, I was able to force open the door by pulling the inside handle and shoving up against it. It is known and shared on the vw forums that if you pull the handle too hard, it will stretch a cable which may render the door unable to shut or not properly latch. Vw is aware of this as they have a technical service bulletin TSB #tt-57-14-01 for it however, this should be a safety issue as it can stop the driver from exiting the car in an emergency.

58 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/19/2015

When my car reaches 10 mph, it auto-locks them door by default. The issue is it tries to lock the doors whenever it slows down to 10 mph and accelerates up above 10 mph. The downside is, the child lock fails whenever this scenario happens. Based on online research, this is a "common" issue.

59 Body problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/16/2015

While driving at 75mph or in city traffic I get an alarm warning that my driver's door is open. To shut the loud warning off, I must open and close the door while going 75mph or in traffic. Either I open the door while driving or pull over on the side of the highway with traffic, I find this very dangerous!!! this happens daily this is my second vw Passat that the door latch has failed and was told this a common problem with Volkswagens this should be a recall because of the dangers of having to open the door to reset the latch electrical switches that are defective!!!.

60 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

I¿ve found that the doors on my 2013 Volkswagen Passat [tdi] have electrical/mechanical issues when they are exposed to rain water or extreme humidity. During these exposures they will not stay locked [they will lock and unlock]. Two specific periods of time really stand out where the doors have been particularly troublesome. The first was after a rain storm while visiting family in mt. I went to my car and found that I could not close my passenger door after I opened it. It was stationary at the time. I literally had to wrap my seatbelt around the door handle to keep the door from flying open as I took it in for evaluation. I took it to the dealership and they could not recreate the problem. Within one week it happened again during another rain shower, this time I was driving and my daughter was in the passenger seat! thankfully we were driving slow, in town, and no harm came to anyone. I took it back to the dealership and had them replace the mechanical part of the locking mechanism this seemed to solve the ¿staying closed¿ issue. The second period of time I was in FL in late August. I was there for three weeks and the entire time the humidity was such that everything was soaking wet. Once again I had issues with my doors. This time it was more electrical than mechanical. My key fob stopped allowing me to lock/unlock my doors and the locks seemed to be possessed. I had to pull the cover off my ¿touch¿ lock to use the key to lock and unlock the doors. I also experienced mile after mile of my doors locking and unlocking while driving. This lasted the entire time I was there. When I came back to a dryer climate the problem stopped. Of the two series of issues I experienced the one that put my child¿s life in danger is the most concerning. The repairs cost me nearly $1k and the peace-of-mind I lost is immeasurable.

My husband pickup would not start, so I lift my hood of my Passat to give him a jump and the whole section all the way across that holds the battery have at least 6 inches of water just standing in there. We have had some down pours of rain, but rain water should never be standing on the inside of my hood. This could have potentially killed me if I never had to lift my hood and try to drive this with water standing around all of my electrical wires and battery. I have taken two pictures for visibility, but I do not know how I am going to get that water out without electrocuting myself. Somebody please help me.

63 Body problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/09/2015

I have had my 2003 vw Passat a year now I have just noticed in the past week that it had a leak I thought it was from the window or sun roof I went to vacuum the car out on a nice day and seen that it still had very wet carpet and then noticed the carpet was a green color like it was coolant I then had my bf check it and it is. I run a daycare and use this car daily with my children we have been breathing in this coolant for weeks now and that probably explains my daughter saying she gets headaches when we drive the car. I have done some research and see it is a very common and recalled thing with the heater core and I had no idea I hope us breathing this in hasn't done any damage I have a one year old who has been in it this whole time as well. Im very unpleased with this car.

65 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

This is my third complaint about this vehicle. During the August flooding, while driving home from work and passing through some water piles my car lost the bottom engine cover, lower grill broke, got them replaced no problem. Winter comes and when it gets cold front door freezes shut, remote start barely works only when it wants too. Also no problem. We got out first winter storm thank god I had put new tires before this. However driving home some areas had a bit of snow first I get stuck and cant turn off traction control. Then my lower grill breaks again. Is the grill made out of water bottle plastic. If every time there is a storm I need to spend 250 dollars on a lower grill that is just a wonderful car expense. You try and trade in the car and the value just dropped. This is my first and last vw. Horrible quality that a bumper can't with stand some accumulation of snow. I will file a complaint with vw as well, lets hope they do something about it. Plus they still did not correct the navigation and bluetooth issue.

66 Body problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

2012 vw Passat with no previous signs of problems begins sputtering/flashing engine light. Car was driven apx. 1/4 mile back home, where it began smoking and caught fire. Entire engine burnt out. Car was under warranty. Nhtsa investigated Passat's faulty ignition coils yet did not issue a safety recall because there was no safety issue. . . But if the engine catches on fire. . . With all the combustibles in a car. . . One would think that was a little unsafe. Glad my 4 year old was not with me.

67 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

Noticed my drivers side door sticking during recent cold weather, it was frozen. Climbed through passenger door for a cpl days. . No big deal for a one yr old car, right? when the door did open, it wouldn't shut. I have to hold the door shut while driving. Took the car to dealer, was informed that I am the third person today with the same problem on a Passat, but it will be a week and a half before they can charge me $700 to fix it. I realize I'm over my warranty with mileage. . But this is completely unsafe!! I'm now dragging around town holding my door closed, driving no faster than 15mph with blinkers on. Can't shut or lock it, hope it doesn't get stolen! I was told that everything that opens the door is broke. The door latch, lever, and 2 cables. This has to be a defect. . No way it's safe and ok for this to happen. Called vw customer service, was told over warranty, nothing they can do. . Have a nice weekend. Small consolation. I guess it's totally fine to drive my children around in a car is purchased bc of the safety ratings all the while holding a door closed for a week and a half. Unbelievable.

68 Body problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

In cold weather sometimes the front drivers and passenger doors will not open, I have to go through a rear door and open it from the inside, then most of the time it will work fine after that, though a few times the door would not stay latched. The first time I took it to the dealer they said they heard of this and did nothing, I just recently brought it back and they installed a updated latch. There should be a recall issued for this problem.

69 Body problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/07/2014

I noticed there was a considerable amount of water on the passenger side carpeting. I checked all drainage locations for blockage (I. E. Plenum, sunroof). All were clear. The water found it's way into the vehicle by way of a faulty (disintegrated) seal beneath the pollen filter housing. The car had 92,000 and was out of warranty. However, I found that there was a service action p9/66c8 applicable to my vehicle for which I was to be notified by vw in 2008. I am the original owner of the car and reside it the same address since 1978. The vehicle was sold directly to me by a vw dealer brand new in October 2004 and registered to me at my home address. I never received any notification. The corrective action noted on the p9/66c8 included directing the dealer to "install an improved seal for the pollen filter". I contacted vw customer care and they did not acknowledge that the service action existed and consequently there was no reason for them to contact me in 2008. They lied and I haved a damage vehicle that gets flooded whenever it rains. I was compelled to make the immediate repairs at my own expense since the transmission control module (tcm) is located beneath the passenger side front seat of this car. Should the water get inside, it could cause damage to the transmission function. If this were to occur while driving the vehicle, a potential for personal injury to the vehicle occupants exists along with any damage to the vehicle itself. Vw has failed to take responsibility for a defect known to them. Vw has instead chosen not only to hold me financially responsible for the defect of their product but to also expose me (and other vehicle occupants of this vehicle) to potential hazards as a result of the failure risk associated with a flooded tcm.

70 Body problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

While driving on the highway with the sunroof closed. Out of the blue and unprovoked - the sunroof exploded. It was not hit by anything to cause this. The majority of the glass flew out, but had the inner plastic sunroof material been open it certainly could have injured those inside. Additionally over the course of the next few days I did find dark glass shards in my hair that had clearly come from the sunroof. My story is lucky, but easily could have ended in injury to driver from the glass or from injuries to others on the road caused by an accident prompted by the shock of unprovoked shattering glass to the driver. The car is not very old (2010) and the sunroof is certainly not overused. This absolutely can't be the users' fault.
