Brake Light On Problems of Volkswagen Passat - part 2

Abs control module: this complaint pertains to my 1999 vw Passat turbo. I have been experiencing the same issue thousands of others have. The abs and brake lights come on every time I drive the car. It is my understanding that this is a defect in the car and a serious safety issue as the abs system is not functioning properly.

At random intervals while driving, the abs light, brake light, oil light, and asr light flash with accompanying warning beeps and the tachometer goes to zero. These warning eventually go away on their own. The instrument cluster has been replaced but the problem is still intermittently present.

Abs, brake light and oil light indicators on - apparently a common problem with Passats. Faulty abs module according to dealership, $900 part. Vehicle has 67,000 miles and dealership serviced. This should not be happening and a recall should be made.

The abs light stays on, the brake light flashes, the engine oil light comes on and the tachometer goes to 0 and stops working even though I am accelerating. The control module was the culprit and it would cost $1450. 00 and there was no used part available and it is a dealer only part.

My abs brake light is on as well as the brake light. I've taken it to the dealer and to a automotive repair shop to have it looked at. The dealer says that the abs module is bad and will cost around $900. 00 to fix. The brake lines and levels are okay and the pads and rotors are good as well. It seems that the bosch 5. 3 abs model for my year and make has recently been reported as faulty. The electronics in the 98-01 model abs modules should be lasting longer or at least the duration of the car. The problem is that virtually all of the bosch 5. 3 and 5. 3i abs modules in the Passat have a serious internal defect (bad manufacturing process) that will surface after 1-6 years of service. If the brakes and abs are actually fine, then Volkswagen should be replacing these faulty abs modules with upgrades. The consequence is that your brakes maybe fine but you cannot legally drive because of a failed state inspection. $900. 00 is the way to fix it says the dealer. I've had my brakes serviced on the regular by and been told that they're fine, but now the abs light is saying otherwise.

Driving down snow and ice covered mountain pass in colorado when I suddenly experienced heavy resistance of brake pedal and loss of braking. Brake light also came on. Fortunately, I made it home safely. Subsequently brought car to dealer and found out that the vacuum line for the brake had cracked causing loss of vacuum pressure and decreased braking.

The abs module on my 1999 Passat has broken and the car is constantly warning me of the abs and brake lights on the dash are lighting up.

Abs and brake warning light (intermittently) on instrument cluster of 2000 Volkswagen Passat. Mechanic advises this to be a common problem, demonstrates an electrical issue with anti-lock brake module. Mechanic also advises that abs in inoperable when warning lights are on. (computer code 01203).

Abs / brake light warning on dashboard. It happens occasionally, but it getting more common. It is not a constant warning. It does not happen on every drive of the vehicle. Have read that it is common on this era of vehicles.

Brake fault , brake light flashes, abs comes on due to bad abs module.

1999 vw Passat,abs light on/brake light flashing for a couple of weeks, very annoying and scary, read on internet discussion forums , possibly very expensive to fix, do not have 1500 dollars to fix and it possibly may not resolve the problem. . We need answers . . .

Abs module failure at ~67000 miles. Abs light on with flashing brake light and 3 short peeps. Water intrusion from under battery drains due to design flaws.

I have a 2000 vw Passat. The abs light comes on, the brake warning light flashes, and "stop"/"brake malfunction"/"service manual" cycles on the dash display. Sometimes this occurs while driving, sometimes as soon as I start the car. Sometimes they go right back off. . . But most of the time they stay on for about ten minutes, and then go off and then the asr light comes on and stays on until I turn off the car. If the car is off for a few hours, the lights will usually not come back on until I drive again for a few miles. It appears after doing some searching that this is a common problem with the abs control module and is a known issue that Volkswagen is doing nothing about except replace the part for around $1300-$1500.

Abs/ brake light are on and 3 chimes sound when vehicle is turned on.

I got in my car one morning and started the abs lights and brake lights come on the instrument panel and has pretty much been on since and I have noticed without abs my car doesn't stop near as fast as it used to the dealer said it was the abs computer failed and the manufacture would have to send me anew one but that it was really pricy to fix and a group that I am with also drive the same cars a large number of them and there's has failed just like mine did.

Abs light, oil light, blinking and the brake light blinking are simultaneously on. I can hear beeping and the air conditioning unit turns off (but the fan still runs) when approaching a complete stop, then the oil light stops blinking then when accelerating, I can hear the ac unit click back on and the oil light starts blinking again. Major recall needed from other similar responses online.

At just over 90,000 miles, a warning message came up stating: stop! brake failure. See service manual. The abs and brake light also came on and stayed on. I immediately had my brake system checked at an independent mechanic. He found nothing wrong with the brakes or the abs. According to vw it is a abs central module failure. Replacing it will cost over $1000. This is outrageous! this is clearly a defect that vw should correct. It is incredible that vw is allowed to scare its customers into thinking they are in serious danger of brake failure just to get them to correct an electronic defect. Checking the internet I discovered this is a common problem with the 2000 Passat.

Abs /brake light started coming on at about 80,000 miles. First the problem was intermittent, but now it is constant. The abs pump seems to function properly. The problem is with the electronic component known as the ebcm. I realize the government doesn't consider this a safety issue, otherwise vw would have been pressured to issue a recall. However, the state of NJ will not allow you to pass inspection with the lights on because they consider it a safety issue, even though in reality it's just like driving in the pre-abs days. So, the consumer is forced to pay $1500-$2000 to get this problem fixed. Of course vw and bosch, who made the faulty component, get off the hook and in fact profit this extremely common failure. Who is looking out for the consumer? please help!.

My 2001 vw Passat abs module became defective after 1 year of owning car from the original owner. Not sure if original owner had done repairs/replacements of the unit. Now there is no communication between the car computer and the module, therefore no abs brake is active. Abs light stays on and brake light flashes intermittently. There are also 3 beeps when car has been started. I am a very unhappy consumer of vw due to their faulty vehicle equipment and has deter me from purchasing any vw in the future. I have recently just had a repair to replace my maf sensor, 2 ignition coils, 4 spark plugs again after purchasing brand new ones just a month prior. It was very costly!!.

The abs light flashes along with the brake light. Also words appear on the dash that say "stop" "brake fault" "service manual". When I checked the manual it says that there is a fault or problem with the abs system.

My 2000 vw Passat 4 motion has 9k miles. Just recently the abs brakes lights came on and the car puts on the brakes by itself. You are driving 65 mph and the car slams on the brakes. Feels like you have hit a big hole in the road, but only with the front wheels. Very scary.

Abs and brake lights came on at no warning and unexpected. Each time ignition turned on it beeps 3 times and the abs and brake light remain on. This should not be failing this bad. I just got the car for less than 10 months with 106,000 miles on it and I am the 2nd owner.

Unexpected abs amber light fault and flashing red brake light. Dealership does not seem to know how to correctly diagnose this and will cost a large sum of money to try and repair.

I drive a 1999 Volkswagen Passat 1. 8t and when driving at highway speed the abs light would turn on. A couple months later the brake light began appearing with it and making a beeping sound. I took it to a Volkswagen specialist and got they replace the abs module. Since then the abs light has not come on.

Brake alarm light on all the time and flashing abs light as well as stop. Brakes have been checked and are fine. Dealer says it needs a replacement abs control module - $1800. Have been researching this problem and many owners of vw's and audis in my year range having same problem.

Driving along on a clear day, open road, no bad weather. The abs/brake light on my car came on with a warning beep. Intermittently the tachometer and oil pressure light would fail to work additional creating warning beeps . Having the vehicle checked by a garage, the abs electronic module had failed requiring replacement.

The brake lights on my 2001 vw Passat stopped working. I checked the fuses and the light bulbs; and both the fuses and bulbs are good. Vw of America recalled several vw models in 2007 for brake light failure due to a faulty brake light switch. However vw of America did not recall the Passat. I when on line to a vw blog; and found lots of other vw Passat owners who have the same problem with their brake lights. I also found out that vw will not replace the brake light switch free of charge on the Passat, because the Passat was not recalled. I will have to pay out of pocket to get my Passat repaired.

I have a 2000 vw Passat wagon awd v6 which has a faulty abs module, causing the abs light to come on along with a blinking and beeping brake light. I get a stop! brake fault; service manual message which many, many others are also getting. Vw should absolutely issue a recall for this as many vw dealers are seeing this exact issue (which happens to be very expensive to fix and diagnose).

The contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen Passat. While driving 5 mph, the brakes failed. The contact stated that the brakes made a loud grinding noise when the pedal was depressed and the brake light remained illuminated. The dealer stated that the failure was unrecognizable. The contact also crashed into the rear of another vehicle while attempting to brake. The rear bumper of the other vehicle was destroyed. The VIN and dealer information were unknown. The current mileage was 58,700 and failure mileage was 700.

Abs/brake light flashing; beeps initially when ignition is turned on. After having service center replace oil pressure sending unit, diagnosis determined to be failure of abs control module. Not aware of this occurring in any other makes, and learn from complaints within and from forums and other internet sites that this is a common problem in 1999 vw Passat. Oil light, now, also comes on when brake pedal is applied, but goes off when pedal is released. Oil pressure & pump okay, as is oil level, but source of oil light/brake pedal issue cannot be determined.

Abs/ brake light are on, chimes sound when vehicle is turned on and won't turn off.

Abs module failure. Abs light comes on with brake light flashing and 3 beeps intermittently. After turning the car off for awhile it may not come on for several miles the next time. Braking heavily causes the rear wheels to lock up and skid. Also what I think is particularly dangerous is when braking heavily with the abs light off causes the car to skid and at the same time the check engine light comes on as well as the abs light and brake light and stalls. If on a highway at high speed this could be deadly. The repair will be the replacement of the electronic module. Add me to the list of many who have this problem and want to get a recall instituted on this module.
