4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/18/2020

2013 Passat tdi. 136000 miles. Vehicle was driving at highway speeds and the glow plug light started to flash, no other indicator lights or car performance issues were noted at this time. Car was pulled over safety to a town within 5 miles, the car was shut down. Just to see if it was a glitch car was restarted briefly and the check engine light remained on. Car was immediately turned off. While on the phone relaying my information to family, bystanders advised me that the car was on fire below the engine bay. The fire was quickly put out with water. The damage seems to be in the same area as has been noted by recalls 17v309000 and 16v171000, both of these recalls were complied with prior to this event. Documentation of this is maintained with the owner. All scheduled maintenance and repairs have been completed at Volkswagen dealerships since purchase, all records maintained.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

While driving the vehicle it will loose driving power, check engine light will come on as well as epc light. When taken to a mechanic it was found out that the whole throtke body needed to be replaced. I was also told that this was a dealer only part, when the mechanic shop called to order the part from the dealership they were told that the part was on a national back order and that it could be 6 months to a year before a part was avaliable. When I called the dealership a week later the part was still on back order, and they said that they had over 200 on a list waiting for this part, and to keep calling back to ask about the status. I have not been able to drive my vehicle since July 2020, and as of today 10/22/2020, accordinf to the dealership there is still no estimated timeframe that this part eill be available. I fell that if there is that many that if they do in fact have over 200 waiting for the part then there must be somthing defective with the current part that is on the vehicle.

The next service was not due. I have this all documented by the dealerships. My car has approx. 94,000 miles on it. The check engine light started to come on intermittently. We had to drive the manual transmission car home 10 hours to nearest dealer with the threat of stalling in traffic on interstate. 20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

The check engine light came on 7/14/16. I brought the car into the dealership on 7/15/16 and learned that the car¿s adblue heater had gone and will cost just over $1,000 to replace. The adblue heater heats the adblue to remove no2 for emissions, however Volkswagen is claiming that this is not covered under the emissions warranty. The adblue system has not other purpose than for emissions and should be covered under the federal warranty, as the emissions would fall outside of the federal regulations without this component. Proper emissions help to keep our entire population safe and healthy from the harmful pollutants generated by vehicles. Now the car will not start because of this false emission sensor reading.

27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

Check engine light prompted me to take my 2008 vw Passat 2. 0t to the dealer to have code read. Advised it was a malfunction of the camshaft and the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) cam follower that has been recognized as a flaw meriting warranty extension on the 2006-2007 models. I have been informed that the 2007 model year was produced through 7/2007. My vehicle was manufactured in 8/2007 and thus has the 2008 model year, but the dealership service manager informed me that this was the same parts and the same problem as the prior years with extended warranty. This fault causes premature wear on the cam follower and the hpfp rod wears into the camshaft causing loss of fuel/speed, acceleration, or engine power upon failure. Seeing as how my vehicle has the same build as those of previous model years that were included in the warranty extension, further consideration of 2008 vehicles with the identical problem should be considered. Volkswagen customer service has been contacted by several affected owners in this matter and is unwilling to acknowledge that this flaw recognized in 06-07 vehicles extends into some 2008 vehicles and is denying coverage and disregarding the safety issue that follows failure of the camshaft due to the erosion of this part. Vw customer care was not able to produce proof that my vehicle had different or improved parts by way of a different set of part numbers installed. The technicians confirmed that my camshaft was identical to the recalled camshaft, and the cam follower wear was so extreme that the hpfp rod was eroding the cam surface directly. Vw customer care has denied any flaw or extended warranty for 2008 2. 0t owners despite the warranty extension for prior model years for the exact same problem.

28 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

I was driving the car about 30 minutes prior to incident traveling at approximately 45 mph with my child in the car and without warning of any kind my car shuts off and I almost got rear ended . I was able to coast to the side of the road put the vehicle in park tried starting the vechile and it started right away . I drove vechile home without incident . I took the vechile to a mechanic and they couldn't find a problem no engine codes where present . I drove the vechile for a week and this same scenario played out again I wasn't driving the car any further at this point because again I had my child in the car and again alonso got rear ended . Had it towed to a different mechanic and they to were unable to find any engine codes or problems . I had my boyfriend drive the car home and it stalled on him at a red light . Car wouldn't restart so he had to push the vechile across a lane of traffic to the shoulder of the road . When the car cooled down for 2 hours it restarted and drove fine no check engine light or codes present . . After a month of headaches with the car we discovers it was a faulty engine speed sensor this is a very dangerous part to fail without warning leaving the car powerless if this happened on the freeway I wouldn't have been so lucky I imagine.

29 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

I stopped at a stop sign, the car accelerated normally and after a few minutes the engine sputtered, the check engine light illuminated, and the battery light illuminated. The engine quit. Attempts to restart the engine failed. I was located at an intersection and pushed the car off to the side of the road. I attempted to restart the engine and noticed an aroma of burning plastic. I opened the hood and there was smoke emanating under the top engine cover, top lh side viewed from the front to the rear. Upon further investigation I noticed that there was a fire under the cover. I removed the cover and extinguished the fire. The #1 ignition coil harness was melted from the fire and associated fire damage was noted on the inside of the engine cover above the engine coil location. I had the vehicle towed to the local dealership and they confirmed that the failure of the #1 engine coil was the cause of the fire. I reported the incident in detail to the Volkswagen America customer support as soon as I returned home. Vehicle is currently undergoing repairs to replace the defective items. I was told there were no current recalls in effect. I went to the NHTSA website and found that this issue has been previously investigated and no recall was issued at the time. I felt obligated to report this incident as it pertains to public safety.

30 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat

31 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/24/2014

Own a 2013 vw Passat sel tdi. Glow plug light came on, pulled over, called dealer, they in turn had me turn vehicle off and restart. Glow plug light on and check engine light started flashing. Drove to dealer less than 4 miles. Diagnostic at dealer "exhaust temp sensor" bad and they would have to order part. Was told these sensors are like "light bulbs", per dealer, and will go bad routinely. Pretty expensive light bulb if you ask me. I purchased a new vehicle for the sole purpose of being maintenance free, I travel extensively, this is ridiculous that a sensor should go bad with 51,000 mile on a new vehicle and if this part is a "light bulb" than vw should allow consumer to replace not charge them this ridiculous labor fee.

32 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

34 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/30/2012

We purchased our 2007 Passat 3. 6l 4-motion wagon and had issues with the airbags from day 1 (literally), and had the dealership replace the sensors under both seats within the first three days. Within a month, we began having issues with the tire pressure monitoring system. New tires fixed the tpms issue for about a week, then we began having issues again. A year after we bought the car, my wife had an accident (rear-ended someone), and the airbag did not deploy. We had to have the entire front-end repaired - $10,237 worth of repairs. After the repairs were completed, there was so much external noise than there was before the accident. Over the next 8 months, we began having issues with the check engine light coming on (and staying on). When the car shut off one day, right in the middle of (busy) traffic, I took it back to the repair shop to have them look at it. They took our 2007 Passat to the vw dealership, which made a blanket statement that none of the existing issues were related to the wreck. Therefore, the repair shop would not do anything more to fix the car, and since the car was no longer under warranty, the dealership would not cover the repairs either. On October 29, 2012, 14 months after the accident, the check engine light came on again, as it had many times before. However, on October 30, 2012, the engine died completely. We've since discovered that the bearings are completely gone and were told it will cost us $7,000 to replace the engine. But that still doesn't include repairs to the previously existing issues with the tpsm or the airbag.
