Failure Date: 01/10/2020

When stopped and start going and get to about 30 mph and shifts into third gear the emergency brake system engages and I can barely move. I have to turn my vw Passat off, wait a couple minutes and turn it back on form the emergency brake to dislodge. Example: I'm in vegas at a stop light it turns green so im going up a on ramp to get on freeway and as soon as I accelerate and car shifts into 3rd gear a yellow p with a circle around it comes on my dash and when I push on the gas ( I had many cars behind me) my car revved up but would not go because the emergency parking brake came on. And it continues to do it to me. If I can get past third gear it's fine and 1st and 2nd gear are ok. I just purchased the car and called on recalls there weren't any. This almost made me have a serious accident on my way home the same day. Because I have to go over a pass to get home it did it to me 4 times and the last time cp8ld of killed me. Ive been reading the problem others are having with vehicle and they are the same as mine. Braking system failure on 2006 volkswagon Passat. Please help us who can not afford to pay to have it fixed. And I cant sell it because I cant let somone else get hurt. This is my only transportation and I love my car. But now I'm scared to drive now. I can't afford to fix it and can't risk selling it and now have nothing to get to work. Please help. Thank you.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Abs intermittently comes on when brakes are being used under regular pressure. Sometimes when trying to stop at a light or slowing down when a car is turning in front of me, the abs comes on and the car does not stop as it should. I have almost hit the back of a car in front of me because the abs came on when the car normally would have just stopped as usual. This problem has been intermittent for roughly 6 months.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

The automatic emergency braking (aeb) 'feature' in my 2017 vw Passat engaged this morning at aprox 10:30am mst, when accelerating onto an empty street, after turning westbound onto 8th avenue, from northbound colorado boulevard in denver, colorado. Based on the time of day, there's no way sunlight could be a factor as I was headed west and it was well before noon. The car passengers and I were all very startled by the dashboard lighting up and the brakes automatically engaging so suddenly and severely, with no road obstructions. This is the second occurrence of the aeb feature engaging for no apparent reason, I don't recall the first time specifics, other than the sun was behind the vehicle (it was after 4pm, and I was headed eastbound) I have zero idea what is happening with my vehicle and the aeb feature engaging without any visible road obstructions this and the previous time. Note, he brake pedal was not depressed/engaged during either occurrence. Also note, the aeb feature has engaged previously, accurately, apparently and reasonably functioning as designed.

Hello- parking brake will not disengage, making car undriveable. Parking brake also turns on on its own when the car is on (stationary on mine, in motion on others cars) and also when car is off. My car was also parked and the brake unreleased and the car went backwards down the driveway. My 65 mother was home alone and ran out and stopped and held the car (and pushed it back up driveway) herself. Forums have stated this is a known issue and the parking brake turns on when driving which has resulted in crashes/ accidents and injuries.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/11/2018

My pregnant fiance, her 3yr old son and I were driving on a city street approximately 35mph. A vehicle cut off the truck in front of me and the truck in front of me slammed on their beaks, which made me slam on mine. I slammed on my breaks and it did not stop my vehicle, I tried to use my emergency break and did not stop the vehicle so I swerved over as much as possible to avoid my fiance's passenger side from being hit. I rear ended the truck in front of me. Everyone seatbelts locked except my fiance's. She hit the dash, insurance company totaled the vehicle and the vehicle manufacturers customer service stated it did not get hit hard enough to deploy airbags. There has been a couple times previous to the accident that I would be at a red light with my break pedal all the way down and all the sudden I would start to slowly roll, with the break pedal still all the way down.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/30/2018

My vehicle attempts to straighten itself out as I'm going through a curve and I actually have to put more effort than necessary to keep steering wheel appropriately turned to go through the curve entirely. Also while going through a curve, if attempt to slow down, my brakes seem to make some type of scraping sound and I can feel the scrape or vibration of the problem through the pedal. Both these issues can and have occurred while traveling at a low speed such as 30 mph or at higher speed, such as 50-60 mph. I have had a few close calls with other vehicles on the road die to these issues. I will specify a date because it asks for a date but it's been happening since I first purchased the vehicle.

Now my engine light is on and my airbag light is on . . I've called and they do not want to listen to what I have to say . . They are telling me more things could be wrong and it will cost a lot of money to fix it . . I've had my car for almost 3 years with no problems and now that they have done work on it . It keeps messing up?.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

I have a 2016 Volkswagen Passat se that I leased about a year and a half ago. A little over a month ago the car braked on its own with myself, my mother, sister, and my 2 year old son in the car for absolutely no reason going 45 miles per hour. The next incident the car decided it was not going to brake and we had to step on the brakes so hard to get any kind of reaction, almost causing an accident. At this point we took it to vw and they are claiming there is no issues with the car; I beg to differ! yesterday again the car braked on its own going 30 miles an hour for absolutely no reason. Took the car to my personal mechanic prior to taking it to vw and a pic of what came up on their diagnostic computer is uploaded. The vw dealership I took it to after keeping it two weeks claim there is nothing wrong with the car; however, they reset my computer in the car and now the car is showing no codes. There was a similar incident reported on carcomplaint. Com same year, model and trim as mine.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/13/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Volkswagen Passat. While driving 45 mph, without depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle began to brake independently and a wavy line warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the steering wheel started to vibrate violently without warning. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to south bay Volkswagen (located at 3131 national city blvd, national city, CA 91950, (619) 336- 4020) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be located. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 171672068. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 11/02/2016

Periodically, when driving, the "abs", "brake", and the "anti slip regulation" lights will flash with an alarm sound that lasts around three seconds and the lights go off. This happens when the car is running and has happened on the highway and while stopped. There is no difference in the way the car handles, drives, or brakes during and after this occurs. On one instance the "anti slip regulation" light stayed on and I had to stop and shut the car off. When I started it again, the light was extinguished. This has been going on for 3-4 months and only happens about once a week.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

Twice, on may 12 and on October 22, while in a parking lot and pulling into a vertical parking spot at very low speed, I tapped the accelerator, and suddenly the car rapidly sped up. I was unable to stop it with the brake pedal, and I hit a brick planter the first time it happened, and I hit the post holding up the front of a building the second time. The brake pedal on the Passat is approximately 3" wide and located only an inch or so from the accelerator. It is possible that I hit both pedals while trying to stop the vehicle, but that does not explain the sudden acceleration that caused the car to jump the curb and hit the planter and the building. Frightening situation. I wasn't injured the first time but was fairly well shaken up the second. The body shop said the damage to the vehicle was almost exactly the same each time. I took the car to t he vw dealer after the first accident, but they said there was nothing wrong.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/14/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Passat. While the vehicle was stationary with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. As a result, the contact's vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred a second time, but there was no crash. The air bags did not deploy in the first crash. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was driven away from the scene. The dealer was made aware of the failure, but could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The dealer test drove the vehicle in stop and go traffic and determined that the vehicle was in good working condition and was performing as designed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle was tested a second time after the failure recurred, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 6,175.
