2004 vw Passat tdi. Vw has a problem with their turn signal switch. The switch continues to open and close the circuit after the turn signal is in the off position. This is a problem with many of their models( jetta, Passat both gas and diesel). The dealership service personnel are aware of the problem and are replacing the defective switch only if your have all your maintenance done at a authorized vw dealer. So if you don"t have all your oil changes and repairs done by a authorized v w dealer there is no assistance for replacement of this defective switch. This is a cost of $300. 00 to the consumer. This sure is safety related and need to be recalled ASAP. This problem has caused fires under the instrument panel.

Turn signal/hazard relay switch failed while driving, no turn signals. . . Find out there has been a recall on the 2002 jetta and golfs but not on the Passat, same switch in all the cars made by vw. . . This is a huge hazard, why hasn't vw recalled the 2002 Passats as well?.

I had shut off my car and when I went to turn it back on I had no lights, turn signals, dome light, horn, climat control or radio. I took it to the dealer they told me it happens on beetles and golfs all the time and that it was the ignision switch. They showed me the switch when they pulled it out. It had gotten so hot it melted right through the wires. There is no safety recall on this but if it gets hot enough to melt metal it could start the car on fire.
