36 Service Brakes problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 05/25/2022

I leased a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan from brooklyn Volkswagen on may 24, 2022, within 48 hours I experienced a strong vibration upon braking. Most noticeable at speeds higher than 25mph. On may 31, 2022 I returned the car to the brooklyn Volkswagen service center for inspection. It had been determined by my service advisor that the brakes and brake pads would need to be replaced and a multi-point inspection was ordered. The most important safety feature was faulty on my brand new car. As of today, June 5, 2022, the work has not been completed on my vehicle.

37 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 05/03/2022

Automatic emergency brakes engage when pulling into/out of slightly sloped ground. My vehicle has come to a halt while in the middle of a highway multiple times after pulling out of a parking lot where it is slightly sloped. The most recent time was 5/3/22, but it has happened on 5 previous occasions. The emergency sensor believes the ground in front of me is an obstacle. I am now careful to only pull onto the highway when there are absolutely no cars coming for a good distance because my brakes will engage while I'm halfway into the road. The slope I'm talking about is not extreme or severe. No one else is having this issue in the spots where it happens to me.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

While driving car gives error messages: driver door contact switch, then drivers window and drivers side passengers window rolls down 2 inches. With in a few seconds get error start/stop, and a few seconds later fault: electronic parking brake. When I slowed to a stop the parking break engaged and stopped the vehicle. The only way to move the vehicle is to turn off and restart. Upon restart you can disingage the parking break and move the vehicle from the roadway.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 02/15/2022

While driving on the freeway, the car came to a sudden stop in the fast line. I tried multiple things. . . . . Moving it in and out of gear, and flipping the parking brake switch off and on. After maybe a minutes, the brakes unlocked and I was able to move the car over to the shoulder. There was not warning, the car just stopped. I have just recently had the car inspected, 50,000 mile service. No issues were detected by the service group. The service dept at vw diagnosed the problem as being a short in the emergency parking brake. Thankfully we were not hit. Am very concerned someone else won't be as lucky.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

My Tiguan is doing the same thing as the atlas. I have been told by the dealer and the vw representative that did a physical inspection of my vehicle. That the issues are the same. I was doing 70 mph on the highway all the dash lights went on and then the breaks engage bring my vehicle to a complete stop. This was in March of 2021. Vehicle was taken straight to dealer I was told then what was happening. And was told the issed was resolved. Then in January 2022 the vehicle did the same thing once at a low speed, and again that same morning going 30 mph, were the truck behind us did everything he could to avoid hitting the vehicle as my vehicle came to a complete stop. I was the front car and thankfully the truck behind me was the only other vehicle on the road. I pulled in to a parking lot, I attempted to back up and the vehicle would not go in to reverse. I had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership where has sat since January. They have not been able to repair the unit. As they are waiting for a wire harness for the door. Vw corporate has been notified and is not been helpful at this point.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 05/19/2021

• vehicle purchased new • first brake service • mileage: 46,700 over a 1-week period, I noticed an increasing grinding noise at driver side front wheel. I suspected brakes. Took vehicle to vw dealership who performed an inspection then reported (first explanation) that unknown material/debris had worked its way between rotor and pad resulting in significant wear & scoring of driver front rotor. Dealership advised replacement of all 4 rotors and pads ($ 1,700+)! when I questioned the replacement of all brakes, I was told (2nd explanation) the debris in the driver front brake had reduced braking efficiency such that the passenger front brake had to compensate, which subsequently resulted in excessive pad and rotor wear/scoring at that site. Okay, but then why the rear? I was told (3rd explanation), that due to the decreased braking efficiency of both front brakes, the rear brakes had to compensate and that the rear pads were at 5mm, and the rear rotors were warped beyond specifications. I requested all parts be retained for my inspection. Upon my later inspection, I saw that one pad from each side of the respective front calipers was substantially worn beyond the other pad. I was told (4th explanation) the caliper pins may not have had sufficient lubrication thus one (inner) side of each front caliper was getting hung up - thus the excessive wear to only the inner pad on each front brake. Similarly, the inner side of each rotor showed substantially more wear and “deep grooving”. Despite the clear evidence of caliper malfunction, warranty coverage declined - even though the full factory warranty was still in full effect! outcome: paid for all new rotors & pads (no other feasible option). Service manager recommended returning after 5000 miles to verify proper function of calipers. But service manager advised that if the caliper issue is found, at that time, “(t)he calipers may need replacement manufacturer’s warranty may apply. ”.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 05/01/2021

The vehicle has had multiple issues with uneven and premature wearing of the brakes. Brake shop determined it was possibly the result of defective calipers. The inside and outside pads wore completely differently on every axle. Brakes wore out prematurely at 35k. I am suspicious that this also may have been caused by the forward collision warning system's proclivity to errantly activate, thus forcefully slamming on the brakes.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/04/2021

The vehicle was backed out of a parking space in a lot. A pop was heard and the brake the brake pedal went to the floor and eventually stopped. The instrument panel showed faulty brake booster. I had vw tow the vehicle to the dealership and they ordered a new brake booster and replaced it. On may 7, 2021 the same symptom happened and I contacted the dealership and they again towed the vehicle to their location. I am waiting for a call from the dealership on the diagnosis.

48 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 02/18/2021

My vehicle was parked in a slightly sloped driveway and turned off. After 2 minutes, car went back approx. 100 feet through walkway and ended up in the middle of main road. This is a serious malfunction of the vehicle as it can cause injury to someone. When called the customer service center, the rep says there is a recall on engine and transmission control software upgrade but I was not notified about this recall. In addition, on the nthsa website it says the upgrade is for "update to address elevated tailpipe emissions that were found during vehicle testing".

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 12/28/2020

My front assist function malfunctioned. I was driving at a speed of 50mph and the car came to an immediate stop. The seat belt restraints almost choked me, and the sudden stop jarred me. There was nothing in the front of me when this happened. I've been terrified every since it happened. It happened twice before, but this third time was the worst. The next morning I contacted vw, and took my car in. They test drove my car. I was told they didn't find anything wrong, and to come pick up my vehicle. I expressed to them that something definitely was wrong. I suggested them do more diagnostics, but they did not. I called corporate and nothing has been done. They did document my claim and gave me a claim number. In the meantime I started doing some investigations. There is a class action lawsuit investigation going on. I also found a youtube video of this incident happening on another vehicle.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

I purchased the car brand new iat the end of 2018. At the end of 2019 the car now needs new brakes and has less than 19,000 miles. The car shakes when you break. The dealership stated usually brakes and rotors last 30,000 and cited "common causes" for needing new breaks. The dealership stated they would cover labor at good will to replace brakes and rotors and then came back that would cover 60% and provided me 3 different amounts for a total. Additionally, in December 2019, the check engine light came on after driving through a dangerous intersection turning left the car started to stutter and was shaking, after they reviewed it, they stated that the car had "misfired" and not all 4 engines started at the same time, only 3 of the engines did. I am requesting that the car be reviewed for compliance and safety regarding the brakes and engine. Additionally, I am requesting that Volkswagen cover the cost and labor of replacing brakes and rotors.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 09/17/2019

On multiple occasions while the car is moving at a very slow rate of speed less than 5mph the emergency braking will engage for no reason at all. This has happened while starting to proceed forward after sitting at a red light as well as slowly turning into a parking lot with no cars near to cause the system to engage. Luckily no one has been injured at this point, but I am very concerned as to what may happen if the car was moving faster.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/29/2019

Intermittently power steering would not engage when the car was started. Turned the car off after getting the steering wheel to lock and power steering came back. . Later noticed the steering was loose and would the steering wheel would oscillate rapidly. Problem became more frequent over two weeks. Took to dealership and they diagnosed as steering module needed reprogramming. Problem returned the next day after brake vacuum pump was replaced for ~$500. Repair now diagnosed as replace steering rack and wiring module. Car has 112k miles mostly highway driving. No off road driving. Vw says beyond warranty not their problem. $2200 to repair. Sorry but steering is a fundamental aspect of driving a car. Will my car still be safe to drive?.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 08/17/2019

The emergency brake was accidentally engaged while driving on the highway at 65 mph in traffic, bringing the car to a full stop. The emergency brake button is located next the to cup holder in the center console between the front seats. The driver put a coffee mug with an open handle in the cup holder while driving. The mug handle pressed on the button when it was placed in the cup holder (while traveling at 65 mph) and the emergency brake engaged bringing the vehicle to a full stop in the center lane of interstate 91. The only reason we survived is that the person behind us was driving a Volvo and was following at safe distance. If a tractor trailer had been behind us we would be dead.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

My wife and I were driving in our Tiguan with our 7 month old and 3 year old in the back. We were driving approximately 35-40mph on a residential street during the day with good visibility. As we approached a metal plate over the road (for a road construction project) the Tiguan's "front assist" system caused the car to nearly skid to a stop. The car behind us luckily did not rear end us but had we been going faster and the car behind us had been following closer, the outcome would have been much worse. This is a worrying problem because the metal plate was no more than an inch higher than the pavement and is a very standard thing to see in construction sites. It should not have caused the front assist to activate.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/07/2019

My wife wasdriving down a residential street no cars in front or behind. The autonomous brakes activated and brought car to full stop for no reason.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

The cars breaking assistance brings the car to a complete stop at any speed. It will break when nothing is around, when backing out of driveway, driving down freeway, and pulling out onto the road.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

Problem with accidental deployment of electronic parking brake: this is a major design problem with an inexpensive fix. The way the Tiguan has been designed, it parking level is flush to the cup holder. Last week, I spilt my coffee on my charging cluster (in first cup holder) and accidentally deployed the park brake at 70mph and it locked up the wheels. . . On the freeway 🛣!!! this defect covers model years 2009-2017 1st gen Tiguans. The fix is cheap & easy. Although I have tapes a business card over it, I plan to craft a rocker piece to easily secure the parking brake needs to be deployed while the vehicle is stopped.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 05/26/2019

Driving on a Saturday morning to my home. No cars in front of me, behind me or in the opposite lane (2 lane road). Within 1/4 mile from home, the automatic front brake assist was engaged. The vehicle has been on this exact road 100's of times and this has never happened. The groceries in the back seat flew to the front seat and I experienced whiplash. I am just so grateful that my children were not in the car! it was scary and completely unprompted. I checked the owners manual and disengaged the front assist. I have been a loyal vw owner for 25 years but this is so unsettling! the car just had its first service (10,000 miles) 4 days prior at a vw dealership.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 04/15/2019

This model has a push to activate emergency brake. The emergency brake will engage without touching it whenever it wants. It has happened a few times while I was going in reverse with no notice nor does the light indicator go on. I have took it to mohegan vw dealer and they did find any problem with the vehicle . I tried to explain to them that it engages at any given time but they informed me that without a brake indicator on there was nothing they can do. I need help with this issue before it engages while I'm driving and kills me or anyone on the road.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

Frontal brake assist is engaging without necessity. One incident occurred slowing driving through an empty parking garage while slowly following another car about a car length ahead. My dash warning lights turned on and the vehicle stopped. Second incident occurred as I was approaching a car that had been stopped in my lane on a city street, going same direction and in process of making a left turn. Though the car ahead was already turning and 2 lengths away, my car's dash warning lights lit and the car began to apply the brakes but did not completely stop.
