I purchased this vehicle in June 2022 vw of orlando north florida. I had issues with salesperson [xxx] as he caught himself in lies. Anyway, my vehicle has 5,000 miles I keep in excellent condition I was going to detail and add some wheel options when I observed all 4 tires on this vehicle do not match. 3 are scorpions and 1 is pirelli. Which means unbeknownst to me I’ve been driving this new Tiguan and SUV with different tires. I was always aware especially vehicles awd should be fitted with the same tires. This is a violation, a safety hazard. I contacted vw of America, vw orlando and others I will take this incident complaint all the way to the president if I have to when I purchased this vehicle I was charged for ventilated front seats which was included in the car cost. A disclaimer read they are not installed even though there are buttons. The took off $200 I’m not a mathematician but a 2,000 option not connected with a $200 credit appears they made 1800 extra off me. I want this investigated, as a former law officer I know this is illegal and a very bad safety issue especially regarding the mismatched tires [xxx]. It appears this dealership is selling cars with dangerous tires what else did they cheat on. Thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Power steering goes out randomly after cold weather, even while driving. There is no warning before the power steering goes out. I have almost crashed into another car several times because of this. Many people have had this exact problem with this make and model.

While driving the vehicle, frequent faults stating "travel assist is currently not available" display on the instrument cluster, along with a warning light. During this time, the travel assist features can not be used. The error occurs randomly, and can happen multiple times back to back - it is not uncommon for the car's warning sound to alarm 10 or more times in a 20 minute drive. Scans of the vehicles's modules show multiple communication errors stemming back to the "control module for steering wheel touch detention". After taking the car to the dealership for an official diagnosis, it was determined that the steering wheel is indeed faulty and must be replaced. The car had just under 6000 miles prior to being brought to the dealership for diagnosis.

When I first purchased my vehicle the epc came on multiple times and I had to take it back to the dealership. Fast forward last week when I was going home on the eway same issues car wouldn’t accelerate the car was idled at the speed of 40mph it wouldn’t go any faster for a few minutes then it took off out of no where. Also when I was taking my kids to school I was making a left turn and lost control of my vehicle because it was idled and took off out of no where. That’s not safe for me my kids or any passengers traveling with me. It’s also not safe for other drivers or pedestrians. Very scary moment took my vehicle in that same day to be told it was battery issues. They claimed because the epc light wasn’t on it’s harder to diagnose to get another battery and to keep the car overnight to see if that works if not further diagnose the car. I picked my vehicle up had my battery inspected by a different service provider and was told the battery was just fine. I keep reaching out to the location I got the vehicle from their not correcting the issue and corporate just told me to go to another dealership and gave a im sorry about your frustration comment. Clearly the car has a defect always had one since day one when it was supposed to be a cpo vehicle in the first place. And I had issues the same week I purchased the vehicle. Also haven’t had my car a year and I’m having all kind of issues.

Airbag light came on. At the same time we lost all of our steering wheel controls as well as our horn. Some vehicles are covered by a recall but supposedly this yr and model isn't covered for some reason.

My vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times for a well-known and common error: travel assist unavailable. My dealer is saying that the steering wheel needs to be replaced, but the parts are 200+ on back order with no update on when they will come in. This is a major design flaw with this vehicle.
I suffered a front-end collision on 11/15/2022 in my 2017 vw Tiguan. I was going on I-66 in virginia 40-45mph back to college at howard university, and a car stopped suddenly after being cut off, but it was raining horribly and I was in half a foot of water, so even with braking, I hydroplaned into the vehicle in front of me, causing insubstantial damage to them but very significant damage to my vehicle as well as whiplash.

The clock spring failed in my steering wheel. There is no active horn or airbag for the drivers side. None of the steering wheel system works. The steering wheel was making a clicking sound for a week and then one night the airbag error light came on and has stayed on. The vehicle was taken to vw they said it is the clockspring that needs to be replaced but they are on back order for months.
The dealership for my vehicle is over 70 miles away. My battery died and I went and replaced it. When I did all sorts of lights came on in my car, my power steering wouldn’t work, my cruise control wouldn’t work, and my ac wouldn’t work. I took it to the dealership to see what was going on with it. It turns out my battery was placed backwards in my car and when that happened it fried the fuse for my entire system, it broke my ac unit, it broke my alternator, and messed up my electrical system. Yes I do believe there is a risk to my safety with this issue. I could not turn my car when I drove it. I was told by service representative that this has been happening a lot more often with people who are just trying to change the battery. The only time the vehicle was inspected was by the service department at the dealership. No they’re weren’t any problems prior to failure and they appeared after the battery was placed.
Steering wheel lock every time I start the engine.

While driving steering became very stiff and I could not turn the car. The red steering icon lit up on the dashboard and a gurgling sound was coming out from underneath the dash. The car only has 50,000 miles and I have never experienced a steering problem the car was nearly underivable. I took it to the dealer and they stated there was a 50851 fault torque sensor reading out of range and the steering rack had to be replaced with updated harness tierods and related hardware.

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated while driving approximately at 70 mph the power steering failed. The contact had to use arm strength to pull the vehicle safely off the road. The contact stated she noticed a red warning light illuminated on the left side of the instrument panel. The contact was able to return power steering function after waiting for about 20 minutes with the engine off. The contact stated that the power steering failure had also occurred at street speeds of approximately 30 mph. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed that the failure was due to the vehicle battery and replaced the battery. The contact stated that the failure occurred again. The vehicle was not returned to the dealer and had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

While driving on the freeway the red power steering warning light along with a loud warning signal came on and I could not steer the car anymore. The whole steering system broke down without prior warning or accident. Talking to Volkswagen the customer service told me while regrettable things like that could happen but I think this is a serious safety hazard that could have cost lives.
Approximately three months ago I was in my 2017 Tiguan, headed to have brunch with some close friends. Upon backing out of my garage, I turned the wheel and heard an odd clicking sound in my steering wheel/column. I made my way to meet my friends, only to find that my airbag light and tire pressure sensor had come on in my dash. Later on, I discovered I couldn’t use any of the controls on my steering wheel, and my horn wasn’t functioning. Thankfully I don’t use the car to travel much because I work from home, but there are times when I need to run errands. I researched the problem and the only conclusion I could reach was the clockspring was damaged. I have yet to take it to my garage because apparently, there is a shortage of the part needed. I have also read there was an initial recall on this part several years ago, but I’m concerned this is still an issue in these vehicles. I’m also concerned that because the part shortage, it won’t pass inspection. Something needs to be done to remedy this defect. It’s far too dangerous to let this go any longer.
Volkswagen has a national shortage on clock springs and they are going out left and right on everyone's vehicle. I have a number of friends that once again have taken issue against vw who are more than willing to allow their customers to drive their defective vehicles. The clock spring causes the horn to malfunction and not sound. Also the passenger side airbag is also no longer operable. Driving a vehicle in this condition is a hazard and vw corporation has once again passed the buck. Imagine how many young persons are driving around without the maturity enough to realize the precarious situation they are in? my dealership showed me a thick stack of customers all waiting for the same part. Additionally, how can my vehicle pass inspection which is now due without the basic safety features working as described? action needs to be taken now.
The clock-spring in our vw Tiguan broke/snapped disabling the electronics on the steering wheel - including the vehicles horn and airbag which are both safety features. There are numerous other people having a similar experience on twitter. We are being told by vw that the vehicle is still safe to drive which is frankly, insulting. The vw dealership/indigo auto group in san rafael, CA has verified this as an issue and there is a clock-spring shortage with no eta on resolution.
While driving in a congested area of jacksonville, FL a small child pulled bike from behind another vehicle, I attempted to sound my horn in an attempt to get the child’s attention or that of the other driver. The horn failed. I continued to try and nothing. I noticed the airbag light on. I called the vw dealership and was told this is a problem with the clock spring in the steering wheel behind the airbag. This part controls all the functions of the steering wheel. He also mentioned NHTSA has several complaints and the warranty was extended to 120,000 miles. This is relatively a low threshold as more and more people are keeping cars longer with cost. I have 121,190 miles on my Tiguan and am told this is an $800 fix. It is only a miracle this child was not killed. I would be curious how many have been injured, or killed, and the faulty spring has not been pinpointed. I believe this is and immediate threat to safety as one cannot be sure if the airbag will work nor can you summons help with the panic feature as the horn does not work. I believe an immediate recall should be issued regardless of mileage.
The clock spring is broken in my 2011 vw Tiguan at 114,000 miles. Therefore, the driver airbag on the steering wheel does not work. Therefore, there is a safety issue if one drives the car. The problem is not fixed because there are no parts to fix it. Apparently there is a chip in the clock spring and there are no chips available to manufacture replacement springs. I was told that the part has been on back order since October 2021. I was told that the part may be available in July 2022, but there are no guarantees. Until a replacement part is available, the vehicle is potentially unsafe to drive.

Since I purchased this vehicle new, there have been several persistent, and dangerous problems. I have repeatedly reported these to my local dealership, larry miller vw, in lakewood, colorado, and they have effectively ignored me. The first problem is with the steering column/lane assist functions. The failure light/beep for lane assist is frequently alarming, and the control of the steering changes depending on whether lane assist is "on" or "off" or malfunctioning. Sometimes the steering jolts severely in one direction. This is manifestly dangerous. The second problem is that the radio malfunctions in all manner of distracting and dangerous ways. The radio sometimes shuts off without warning and cannot be turned back on. Sometimes the sound remains "on" but the screen goes "black" so that you cannot read a map or make a selection from the control menu. Sometimes the radio alarms that the driver is about to hit an object in front or in back of the vehicle, when there is no object anywhere around. This is very dangerous because the alarm is loud and the brakes are applied if the car believes an object is near. I have videos of these problems occurring. There is no specific date as these problems have been happening since I purchased the car new, until today, 7/10/24.
I had my clockspring replaced in March 2021 and it broke again January 2022 (less than a year and only 10k miles added) the part is nationally backordered, there has been a 7+ month wait time and no end in sight. The clockspring causes clicking in the steering wheel, the buttons and horn do not function, and the airbag light goes on. Vw just tells you it’s fine to drive even though this is a safety issue. I was not able to pass my inspection, it was over the 30 day extension so my registration was revoked! corporate said there was nothing they can do so my car was just sitting in my driveway undrivable. I traded it in for a Honda after 4 months because this was stressful not having a car to drive. Vw needs to be held responsible and this needs to go public.

Clock spring in steering column has snapped. Because if a previous recall, this part is covered under warranty. New clock spring is on back order without any eta when one will be available. Car horn is disabled and airbags will not deploy if an accident does occur. State safety inspection can not/will not pass as a result of this broken part. I do not have the luxury of renting a car until this part comes in to the us. Per various forums, possibly 6000-8000 clock springs on back order.
One day I noticed that my horn wasn't working. Then a few days later I noticed that I couldn't connect to my phone from the steering wheel. The the airbag light came on. Garage said it is malfunctioning of electrical parts in the steering wheel column.
I have a 2015 vw Tiguan, VIN: wvgbv7axxfw585685. The steering wheel clock spring has gone bad causing multiple failure lights to come on and has also caused the car to be difficult to drive. Especially the steering. Most of the systems themselves are not failing, it is just the clock spring giving faulty readings to the car's computer. The lights that are on are the green break light, the yellow airbag and safety belt pretensioner system malfunction, and the yellow steering wheel system light. The cause of this clock spring failure was because the car battery died. After we replaced the battery, the warning lights came on. The dealer had said it was the steering wheel clock spring that is causing all the system lights to come on. The dealer made me pay for the replacement ahead of time because he said that there was a long waiting list for the part that was being manufactured in ukraine (?). Reid togashi is the service manager that made me pay for the future warranty repair. The local vw dealership in waipio has made it extremely difficult to get this repaired under warranty or by a recall. I did get a notice for a class action lawsuit opened against vw and this issue. There is also an extended warranty repair, except my vw had too many miles (88k), and they said this year was skipped over for some reason. The lawsuit is water pump settlement 7577, po box 2636, faribault, mn, 55021-9636. The attorney handling the case is matthew d. Schelkopf, esq. 1109 lancaster avenue, berwyn, PA, 19312. I did not sign up for this lawsuit because again the year 2015 Tiguan was excluded for some reason that I do not understand. Please note that in europe the very same part on this year vw Tiguan has been recalled. Why haven't they recalled the it here in the united states?.
Took car to dealer for air bag light on, no controls in steering wheel worked. Including radio control, tire pressure reset, inspection reset and oil change reset. Faulty clock spring diagnosed. Clock spring was not replaced at date of invoice ,and still waiting on part as of 03/11/2022. Vw number one back ordered part. With no air bag in steering wheel is a safety concern.
The clock spring in my vehicle broke back in December of 2021. This was diagnosed by a Volkswagen dealership service department. It is now 5 1/2 months after the part was ordered and still no part. This makes the car undriveable. The air bag and horn do not work and the entire dash is unusable. It is a safety issue that has rendered my car undriveable for the past 5 months. We can’t get dealership to answer calls. We have found many others complaining of same thing being wrong with their Tiguan and have all been told the part is indefinitely delayed with thousands of people needing the part but none are being made. Volkswagen needs to do something to help people who purchased their product and can’t even use them. My daughter was driving the vehicle when she heard a crunch and her air bag light came on and the steering was affected. Thankfully she pulled over until someone could help her. We are still paying monthly for a car that is not driveable.
Unexpectedly power steering stop working, second it happened.
I own a 2016 vw Tiguan. I bought in mid 2018 w/30k miles. The clock spring, which controls the drivers airbag, horn & all steering controls has broken 3 times. It has broken once per year since I have had. This is obviously due to a faulty part that keeps being reinstalled. I see years ago that over 1. 2 million people w/vw's were affected. This issue should have been fixed the first time when I brought it in w/74,000 miles on 12/18/2019 or perhaps fixed the second time I brought it in w/95,000 miles on 7/31/2020. Now, it is broken again, a third time and now I'm told too bad, its over 120,000 miles & no longer covered, when I came to bring in on 11/3/2021 (contacted you originally on 9/30/21). No one ever informed me of there being an extended warranty that only lasts until 120,000 miles. I drive 2. 5 hours to make my appt & when I email you to notify you that I am going to be 15 minutes late, only then do I get a call from the service rep when I am down the block from the dealership. He proceeds to tell me that he doesn't have the part for the clock spring. That they are using something "new". I said why couldn't you have told me this earlier?then the rep says, why don't you take your vehicle somewhere closer?I explained that I live in a rural area & that I have always brought my car to this facility & that this is the 3rd time for the same issue. Only then did he ask me the mileage of my vehicle & then began to say vw no longer covers the part. Well, it should have been fixed properly the 2 previous times. The clock ring has broken every year I have had the vehicle. If vw is indeed using a "new" part as the rep stated, then there must be a reason why. This is a safety issue. Due to reinstallation of a faulty part the clock spring continually breaks each year. Vw & the dealership are aware that the part is faulty & this is why vw created an extended warranty on just the clock spring. When I stated this to the vw rep he stated that they cannot do anything about bad parts. Shame on vw.
Volkswagen dealer diagnosed my car with a failed clockspring in October of 2021, which results in a failed driver's airbag, no horn, and failed steering wheel control buttons. Volkswagen currently has this part on backorder with no eta and there are 3000 customers without this part. I have no way of obtaining this part, and therefore have no airbag or horn which is extremely unsafe. Volkswagen refuses to provide alternative transportation or a rental vehicle for me saying that it is not covered under the warranty. In addition, the car would not pass inspection in several states, and I can't sell it because it is not safe. So I'm paying for a useless car.
My vw Tiguan was out of alignment, as happens to every car. Unfortunately, the vw dealership informed me that I cannot get a simple alignment for $100 because vw requires calibration of the adaptive cruise control any time an alignment is done. I could not find this anywhere in the owner's manual, nor are there any other warnings on the car or in any paperwork I signed. The vw dealership wanted an additional $400. 00 (for a total exceeding $500) to provide both services. I am concerned about this 1) because vw does not communicate that this is a limitation of the acc system, and 2) while an alignment should be the customer's responsibility to pay for, calibrating the acc system should not. Anyone could go get an alignment done at a tire or brake shop for about $100 - what happens if they try to use their acc afterwards and an accident happens? vw should cover acc calibration as part of the limited warranty, and clearly warn customers not to perform one service without the other.
On three separate occasions the power steering unit lost power, after restarting the car it would work again.

The power steering light has gone on several times, and I then would turn off the car, which would make the light go off. Last night, however, it went on along w the entire wheel violently shaking from side to side. I had to drive the short distance back home to my house w no power steering and the emergency lights on.

Issues related to the vehicles airbag light being on and no sound when horn is pushed, the dealer has stated is due to a bad clock spring. They said it could be replaced under warranty but they don’t know if they will ever receive a clock spring from vw. This vehicle is unsafe to drive without a horn.
Power steering malfunction, it’s a serious safety concern reason why being there is no indication or warning of steering problem. Before the steering stop working. Went online to see if there is a recall and there was none. Seen a lot of report on the same situation.
Volkswagen-tiguan, 2013 - clock spring is out. By the look of the the complaints, this a common problem. Cost - $650 for replacement - but, replacing can cause a further problem according to local vk dealer, where the whole steer electrical system will have issues which will lead to another $1500. Dont have a choice than to fix. A cost vk should be paying for on recall. Oh wait mine was not in the recall. . Previously allowed. Others continue to have issues.
