The car was purchased on March 1, 2012. Shortly after the purchase of the car the wiper blades malfunctioned. They did not work properly and we had to pull off to side of the road on the highway with our children in the car. They would not shut off even after we pulled the key out of the ignition. It was a huge visibility hazard. We called the dealership where it was purchased and they would not help us, even though it was still within our 30 day warranty period. Every time we operated the vehicle the wipers would turn on even when we took the key out of the ignition. We called the two Volvo dealerships in the state of minnesota and were told we would have to pay for repairs. We took it back to the mercedes dealership where it was purchased and they told us to take it back to Volvo for the recall (09v139000)repairs and called on our behalf to arrange an appointment. The Volvo dealership told us the recall had already been performed but the computer was still showing the windshield wiper errors that should have been rectified by the software. Finally, the Volvo dealership re-installed the updated software. It has been several days since the recall software was installed and the wipers continue to malfunction and has now begun to scrape our windshield and drain the battery. We are concerned for our safety. The car cannot be driven. The remedy for the recall does not rectify the safety hazard. Operating this vehicle will dramatically increase the risk of an accident and yet we need our automobile for transportation every day.

On April 21,2011 approximately 7:45am, my vehicle failed in accelerating power suddenly while driving. In addition, my vehicle jerk, skip, and shook uncontrollably. I had my car towed to my personal repair shop (reputable Volvo service, inc. ) my mechanic informed me after a diagnostic, that the throttle module needs to be replaced. He tells me that only the Volvo dealer would be the only repair service to replace this part due to the software program that included. So, once again, the car was towed the authorize Volvo dealer. The diagnostic here is the same, the throttle module needs to be replaced. There was a recall on this part, along with other parts. I was not informed about this through the dealer but through research of my own. The service manager tells me that I would have to contact Volvo manufacturer to see rather they would honor the recall of the replacement of this part. I contact the manufacturer and spoke with mrs. Marilyn and mrs. Jan and I was told that this part was past the warranty but they would honor the software update for this part. Also the engine cooling fan recall is still open but I have already had this part and labor done at my own expense due to the fact that I was not aware of the recalls. The throttle module is about $700. 00, this does not include labor or another software program. For my total repair cost is $1185. 00 and strongly feel that this is not fair because none of my parts were replaced through the recall. In other words I shouldn't have to pay for a part plus labor that was defective in production. I should be extended the same recall conditions that other Volvo owners were able to received. Volvo inc knows exactly what cars received their recall parts replacement and also which cars did not through their VIN number. Of course they would extend the software update program because it's less expensive. Please assist me. Thanks.

My etm on Volvo S80, t6 model (year 2001) has a recall on it issued by Volvo but the problem is that this part along with the throttle body is defective and needs constant computer update, and than the etm faults without notice and takes with it the whole infrastructure despite etm being serviced and new software being installed by dealer. The dealer is not always keen on working on etm or throttle bottle issues as they don't get payment on time from Volvo and they need to do a lot of paper work to et paid by Volvo USA. The car stalls suddenly and one of these days I am afraid this will lead to a major crash as gov. 't can't stop what Volvo USA wants to accomplish and that is profits and not recalling their defective equipment. Human lives are second to corporate profits has already being noted ad shown.

The contact owns a 1999 Volvo S80. The vehicle shut off in the middle of the road while traveling at an unknown speed. There was no power and the vehicle failed to move when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact must wait for a couple of minutes and then depress the accelerator pedal before the vehicle would start. The dealer stated that the failure was due to the electronic throttle system software. The Volvo manufacturer stated that they would not repair the vehicle because it was out of warranty. The failure mileage was 118,000.

As I understand it, the electronic throttle module (etm) on my 2000 Volvo S80 is in the process of failing. Two years ago, I had my vehicle serviced when it began surging forward when idling, even when I was braking. An etm software upgrade was done at that time and the etm was cleaned. Now, just short of two years later, I am having exactly the same problem again. As I am coming to a stop, my vehicle will suddenly and unexpectedly surge forward, even when my foot is on the brake. I am petrified that I am going to strike the back of another vehicle before I can arrange to get my car in for service. Further, when I put my car in park or use the ac system, my car comes to a near stall and just lurches all over the place. It simply cannot maintain an even idle when in park. Last week, for the first time, I became aware of the November 2006 recall concerning etms. This led me to look at my old service records, since I was having the same frightening problem that I had two years ago. Sure enough, there it was again - "customer states at idle revs up and surges. " I have already paid for this repair once. This is an extremely serious matter and my vehicle simply is not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 1999 Volvo S80. While driving 55 mph, the check engine light illuminated with a message stating "transmission service urgent". The dealer stated that the valve body was faulty and there was mechanical failure with the transmission. The vehicle has not been repaired and the check engine light remains illuminated. The contact felt there may be a defect with the software. The current mileage is 100,255 and failure mileage was 99,769.

Abs brakes do not function properly-replacement $950 3. While backing (cold engine), brakes fail to stop the car for several seconds (feet). 4. The vehicle stalls mostly on turns but on straight away. A. Car now shuts off approx 6-8 times while driving, dangerous while driving at interstate/highway speeds. Now is inoperable. 6. The electronic door locks malfunction intermittently. 7. Following error codes display and total mileage, trip 1 & 2 mileage displays default to ã‚?? --------ã‚?? and mileage does not log on the odometer: a. Brake failure stop ASAP b. Coolant level low stop ASAP c. Abs failure / service required d. Stc service required e. Power steering failure - service required f. Emission system service required g. Stop safely and restart engine h. Alarm system service required I. Alarm triggered j. Emission system service required k. No oil pressure stop ASAP l. Check engine. The ball joint, driver side window motor, sunroof switch were replaced. Numerous bulb replacements and replacement of mass flow sensor. The cooling fan malfunctioned. The abs control module would function intermittently which would cause the abs to not function. The power steering failed. The vehicle will completely shut off while driving. The cruise control was inconsistent, the vehicle would loose power with the cruise activated. The electronic doors malfunctioned, the fob does not always open the door and at times when closing the driver side door. Updated 12/15/06.
I experienced a sudden loss of engine power while driving on the interstate. At approximately 60 mph, my Volvo 2001 S80 sedan experienced a sudden loss of power with an instrument indication of "reduced power". The problem recurred twice before I was forced to take the car to a Volvo dealer for diagnosis and repair. The dealership advised me that the auto required a major repair, for which I incurred a bill of $1142. 68. The following items were billed: replace throttle body and download new software for throttle body module: (1) 8644347 0 throttle body ($561. 90) (1) 8636753 9 gasket ($4. 69) (1) 9438290 0 etm reload ($40. 95) (1) 1003 clamp ($1. 75) replace pedal sensor: (1) 111 cp ($85. 00) (1) 30683516 accelerator pe ($108. 39) parts total: $717. 68 labor total: $425. 00.
June 13, 2004: car lost power on I-70 in ohio. Time - 10:00 pm; conditions clear. Vehicle dropped into "limp home mode" requiring that we drive in the breakdown lane to the nearest exit which was about 8 miles. Vehicle speed was about 20 mph max. - a dangerous situation on an interstate at night since both debris, dead animals and highway construction barriers required temporarily leaving the breakdown lane. Neither my wife nor I knew what was happening at the time. We were able to find a motel and had the car towed to the nearest Volvo dealership for repairs the next day. Car repairs included an etm, throttle body, the main control module (part #8601630), various diagnostic tests and software downloads. Time constraints necessitated our returning to connecticut by the next day so we ended up leaving the car and obtaining a rental. The dealership finished the repairs and had the car driven to us a couple of days later. A good part of the repair costs were absorbed by Volvo, however we did pay some. The reason for this complaint is concern for my wife's safety. She is the primary driver of this car, using it to commute to/from work on heavily traveled roads. We have since learned that these repairs do not permanently solve this problem. The car now has 95,000 miles on it - about 35, 000 more miles since the original failure. We are aware of Volvo's 10 year/200,000 mile warranty on the etm, but Volvo needs to find a permanent fix rather than risk my wife's or my safety.
While driving, I suddenly lost power/acceleration in my vehicle. My check engine light also came on. I turned the car off, but could not restart it. My vehicle was towed to my local Volvo dealership. Diagnosis - replace throttle body and download software (etm). Because my vehicle was past the original manufacturer's warranty, I had to pay for the reparis since the extended warranty did not specifically list these defects . . . $815 parts and labor. Approximately 1 year 3 months later, I began experiencing the same problems as in 2002 which Volvo diagnosed as a throttle body failure; however I have have been able to start my car, but with some trouble. Non-warranty repairs are covered for only 1 year. I called the warranty company to see if they could help me out. The warranty company knew of the defect from previous other complaints, and they told me to try to work out a deal with Volvo (which didn't happen). On September 11, 2002, I took my vehicle into Volvo because my engine fluctuated while idling. The interior lights flickered as the idle surged. Volvo diagnosed the problem as an ignition coil failure. Parts and labor cost me $250. I took the car in again on September 16, 2002 (5 days later) with the same problem. I requested a fuel filter check/replacement, but Volvo diagnosed the problem with the throttle body. The checked and cleaned the throttle body. This happened, of course, just 2 months before complete failure of the throttle body. I've spent over $1000 for mis-diagnosis and an defective part that Volvo and their warranty company have known about for several years.
