1 Ignition Module problem of the 2000 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 02/11/2006

My Volvo V70 xc also has required replacement of the etm - electronic throttle module costing $1350. After, like many others have stated, losing all power, shutting down, locking up, causing me and those around me a near death experience on the highway. I had the car towed to the garage only to be told they could not find anything wrong. The car continued to drive in a very unpredictable manner, losing acceleration, stalling, dying, another near death experience when it died in an intersection, multiple tows and several different garages, several hundred dollars of no answers later, one garage was aware of the commonality of this problem and replaced the etm. This was at ~65k miles. Now at 92k and I am beginning to have the same problems-car dying, going into limp home mode-20 mph with no acceleration, another $1000 in repairs without any resolution to problems. It feels like the etm might be going again. This is ridiculous and dangerous! we are talking about cars that cost over $30000!!.

2 Ignition Module problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/10/2005

Just driving along and the ets light went on. Brought to the dealer and they replaced the etm module, for $1500. The car had 73,760 miles, and the unit is the exact same as the one they replaced. The dealer told me to expect this one to last the same amount of time, maybe more, maybe less.

4 Ignition Module problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/18/2004

Failure of electronic throttle module on Volvo 2001 xc V70. The electronic module controls the throttle. The failure of this electronic at a high rate of speed can cause immediate loss of power or a surge in power resulting in a possible accident. This problem appears to be prevalent in Volvo cars. The resolution is expensive ($1k). I am surprised that a recall was not made for this faulty component which has safety consequences.

6 Ignition Module problem of the 2000 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/25/2003

The electronic throttle module (etm) has failed twice on my 2000 Volvo V70xc. The first time it was still under warranty, the second was about 17k miles after the first. Both times it failed while driving on highway at high speed. Both times engine stalled in traffic. Both times managed to get to shoulder, restart, and get home with car alternately surging and stalling the whole way. Both times had my preschool age twins in the car and didn't feel it safe to stop on the shoulder to wait for help. Also, would have had a difficult time getting them home safety (in their car seats). Then had car towed to dealer for repair. First failure - car mileage was 41,222, repair date was 6/25/03. Quote from annapolis Volvo service receipt: "ets lamp comes on and vehicle surges badly, almost stalled. Internal fault inspected and found codes ecm903f/904d/9150/9160/904c. Tested and replaced elec. Throttle module" this work was done under warranty. Second failure - car mileage was 58,611, repair date was 3/15/05. Quote from annapolis Volvo service receipt: "ets light is on internal fault Volvo goodwill warranty-Volvo to pay parts dealer labor checked and retrieve code-ecm 959f, 903f-traced and found internal fault in etm, replaced etm, reload software and clear codes.
