The contact owns a 2002 Volvo V70. The contact stated that the vehicle would independently switch gears and remain stuck in third gear. The check engine warning light was also illuminated. The contact did not inform the dealer or manufacturer of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who advised the contact that the vehicle was not repairable and if he was to replace the transmission, the failure would recur. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 130,000 and the failure mileage was 100,000.
