BMW 325 owners have reported 4 problems related to ignition module (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Purchased the car used, in January 2011, with approximately 110,000 miles. Vehicle had several stored engine codes, po0300,171,174,1345,1351,1353; mostly relating to oxygen sensors and the maf. All engine hoses, the maf, all 4 oxygen sensors and the ignition coil packs were replaced by a certified mechanic. Within 2 months of normal driving, all codes had returned. Mechanic is unable to determine the points of failure for these issues and BMW denies any existing problem
the passenger side airbag light, turns on and off, randomly, whether someone is sitting there, or not. Failure of the sensor could cause the ab not to deploy during an accident, causing serious, if not fatal, injury. BMW is aware of the issue, does not replace/repair. Door lock/window/windshield wiper control module, known as gm5, fails randomly and often. It has failed several times, while I was in the car. Since it disables the door locks and windows, I was trapped in my car for several minutes. Thankfully, I had the window rolled down far enough to pass my keys to someone on the outside, so they could unlock the door. In an accident, passengers could be stuck, keeping emergency workers from giving them medical attention, in a timely fashion. BMW is fully aware of the problem, but denies it's existence. I also receive random exterior light out warnings, on the dash. Usually, it's both taillights, but more frequently, it is the driver side light sensor, that fails, though the light is actually working, just fine.

BMW 325i has an acceleration delay problem. When the driver demands a sudden increase in acceleration, the car hesitates anywhere from 1. 5 to 3 seconds. This is a dangerous condition when someone is making a left turn in traffic, or getting onto a highway, or passing on a 2 lane country road, etc. Other cars traveling at 60 mph are moving at 88 ft/sec. The amount of leeway this car needs is much too excessive. The car has been back to the dealer twice with the same diagnosis - "problem not verified". Friends who have driven my car think it is a dangerous condition. Bad acceleration is just as bad as poor braking.

No sing of malfunction prior to or since incident. Engine cut off while cruising on highway. Cruise control turned off, all lights in dash lit up, engine came back on and everything operational in less than 5 seconds.

Apparently my car has a programming defect with the computer. It only relates to 2002 325xi's with sport pkg, manual trans. At one time I was told there were only 4 with my set up in the us. All cars with my exact computer set up I'm told are having this failure. They claim to be working on my problem in germany but I really feel my car is unsafe. What happens is there is a 1 second delay when when you stop accelerating to when the care stops accelertating. Low gears at high rpm's the car basically goes out of control for a second. I think because so few cars have my set up that BMW is not resolving this quick enough. Two e-mails to the BMW on line customer care site. My car has been driven by the regional after market rep from BMW who confirmed the problem. Where else do I take this to get my car operating safely?.
