Nhtsa recall number 17v676 BMW still has not issued a response or a fix to this recall, which was sent out in October 2017. Blower motor wiring: this recall involves the wiring for the system, known as the blower-motor, that controls air flow for the heating and air conditioning system. Over time, the connection between the wiring and this system could deteriorate and, in rare cases, could lead to overheating.

Headlight wiring insulation on standard BMW headlights is brittle and falling off exposing bare copper wires within the headlight assembly. In order to protect the headlights I have had to wrap the wires in electrical tape and shrink wrapping. This issue has existed for several years.

Rear turn-signal indicators began failing to operate, especially in hot, humid conditions. Inspection of wiring harness revealed evidence of wiring-connection degradation by heat or corrosion. The car has not been damaged or flooded in any way. It is kept in a garage. Since both rear blinker assemblies have been affected, I believe that the design or engineering was defective. The intermittent failure of turn signals is a serious safety hazard.
2004 BMW 325i - saftey defect. Rear tail light wiring, missing additional ground wire to avoid burning bulb carrier. BMW service information bulletin issued 2/2007 reveals BMW was aware of this issue and failed to notify consumers. Purchased car cpo in March 2007 and was not told. Replaced several taillight bulbs due to intermittent false indicator lights. Finally in 2011, 1 year after car came out of warranty. . . Removed the wiring harness connector to the bulb carrier and found it to be melting. Contacted dealer and was told it could definitely start a fire if left too long. BMW dealer also stated this is a defect on cars produced from 2001 to 2005. After doing research found that BMW has used faulty wiring and there is a additional ground wired needed to fix. Needless to say , had to pay 300. 00 to have peace of mind and repair.
Ground wire on rear light wiring harness has burnt through damaging plug and socket. Potential for fire.

BMW 325i rear blinkers shorted out causing electrical wires to burn. While driving my BMW a warning light on my console turned on indicating the left rear brake/blinker light(s) went out while at the same time I smelled wiring burning. I stopped the car and all my lights seemed ok, so I presumed it was a faulty sensor. A short while later while driving down the freeway I pulled into the left lane and really pissed the driver off behind me and nearly caused an accident. At this moment I noticed my left blinker was making a fast noise as though the left blinker bulb(s) was out. I pulled over a second time to check my blinkers, fearing I would cause an accident, and all my flashers, brake lights and blinkers were working fine. The warning lights on the console went on and off intermittently. I purchased a new bulb hoping this would solve the problem, but everything seemed ok and functional. When I returned from my trip, I was told by two european auto shops and the service manager of a BMW dealership that BMW is aware of a ground problem with the rear light cluster. When I unsnapped the plastic connection from the rear light cluster, the metal prongs and plastic were melted away. The heat apparently was so hot, the solid metal prongs 1/4" long completely melted including the plastic casing. A BMW dealership employee told me that this issue is common when driving in the city when one is using the brakes and blinkers incessantly, particularly in heavy traffic. "the grounding wire isn't heavy enough to withstand the demand for electricity required by the brake and blinker lights simultaneously". This is a known BMW defect and this can easily cause an accident, as in my case, not to mention a lot of drivers really pissed off when I cut in front of them thinking my blinkers are working. This is an issue BMW should repair!.
2002 BMW 325i rear taillights have failed on both sides due to the wiring on both sides of the harness have either melted and ground to the other wires or melted the tabs off of the male plug.
The contact owns a 2004 BMW 325xi. The wire that plugs into the driver side rear tail light harness burned which makes it impossible for the driver to alert others of his intentions regarding direction of travel and speed. Technical service bulletin # 10020856(exterior lighting:tail lights) summarizes the failure. The failure has not been remedied. The current and failure mileages were 59,770. Updated 12/09/09 the consumer stated the same failure happened on the passenger side. There was insufficient grounding which caused the burnout of the tail light wiring.
I have a 2005 BMW 325i and recently been experiencing intermittent failure of my turn signal. While I was driving on the road today it failed to operate and I was almost rear ended by a school bus full of children on the road. . . The bus had to slam on its breaks avoiding major catastrophe by inches. We stopped and made sure all of the children were okay and went our separate ways. I had switched the bulbs out just last week on vehicle and rechecked the tail light assembly. I discovered charred wiring and a charred wiring plug. I contacted BMW north America and they acknowledged that there is an issue regarding the design of the tail light wiring but there was no recall in place. . . This is outrageous and it is only a matter of time before somebody has to pay for BMW's design flaw with their life. . . 20 children and myself almost did today. The service bulletin BMW issued on this is #630306. I ask the highway administration to investigate this matter immediately.
