Failure Date: 04/02/2025

Check engine light indicated on the dash, immediately took it to an nearby auto mechanic tuffy in fort myers florida, off of daniel's parkway. The said the diagnostic said it was valve cover and gasket replacement. Got a second opinion at apex auto in tire in fort myers. Had them install a new valve cover and gasket cover. Check engine light was still visible. Probing a further diagnostic. They indicated that this vehicle should be fixed under recall 23v-707. And would suggest a local BMW dealership to perform that service. The mechanic said this was a known problem, this engine is a n55 and under the model list as e70 X5. I retrieved the vehicle and spoke with BMW fort myers which indicated that there not an open recall that they will not do a recall claim. Because of the symptoms of the vehicle smoking and rattle I'm afraid of a potential engine compartment fire from a broken bolt.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/24/2025

BMW issued a recall in October 2024 regarding the engine coolant pump electrical connector on my 2018 BMW X5 xdrive40e, warning of electrical shorts and fire risks. It's now late March 2025—approximately six later—and BMW dealerships still state explicitly they have no available remedy and no timeline for repair. Recently, my vehicle showed a drivetrain warning message, which I suspect is recall-related. I called BMW corporate recall hotline and my local BMW dealership (BMW of tenafly) today (March 24, 2025). The dealership explicitly stated that they can only perform diagnostics, and even if their diagnostics confirm my drivetrain issue is recall-related, they 'cannot do anything' due to BMW's lack of available recall remedy. When I expressed concern to BMW of tenafly representative that this recall involves serious safety risks (electrical shorts and potential fire), the dealership representative dismissed my concern by simply saying, 'every recall is urgent. ' this response underscores my concern that BMW and its dealerships are not treating this recall issue with adequate seriousness or urgency, leaving consumers like myself at ongoing safety risk. They also mentioned charging $150/day storage if I leave my vehicle at their facility beyond diagnostics, which discourages vehicle owners from having their recall-related safety issues adequately addressed. I’m escalating to NHTSA now because BMW has not provided a recall remedy within a reasonable period, and I'm concerned about ongoing safety issue.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/19/2025

As my vehicle has an electronic oil level check system, I am unable to check my oil level. It gets to around 20% and then stops checking. As per my research, this is due to the oil pump on this particular model year that causes pressure fluctuations and results in this issue. It is unsafe to drive my vehicle as I am unable to check the oil level.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

I have a 2019 BMW X5. My starter failed and I got a notification at the same time through my BMW app that there was a safety recall "recall 24v-576: engine starter – b12 05 24". The recall instructs the dealer that the correction is "dme software update that will prevent the engine starter from being overloaded". This is all fine. It then gives the instruction "note: some vehicles may also be affected by the following technical campaign: 0012240600 check and, if necessary, replace starter motor please ensure that, if possible, both technical actions are processed at the same time. " my issue is that the initial recall is the clear issue causing the starter failure and they have acknowledged this in the technical campaign following. However, my vehicle's VIN is not included in the technical campaign that instructs them to replace the starter even though it was their negligence which caused the failure which they have acknowledged. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? no I paid to have the starter replaced. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? me and my vehicle were left stranded, sometimes in the road due to auto start, multiple times. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, by the dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, inspected by the dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no there were no warnings.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/10/2025

I received a recall on my vehicle for an electrical update and was out of town when it malfunctioned. The vehicle would not start on the first try. Tried again and it immediately overheated, with smoke and a burning smell coming from the hood. It was towed to the dealership, and the starter and battery ended up needing to be replaced. I believe the failure of these parts was caused by the software issue that the recall was for. The dealership refused to compensate for the replacement of the battery and starter, claiming that it was not under the recall. When I reached out to corporate, they also refused to help. The car was at the dealership for a month, and the total cost of repairs was $2,200.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 BMW X5

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

Our 2019 BMW X5 triggered a warning light requiring us to pull over immediately and tow the vehicle to the nearest dealer. It currently has 35,000 miles and the dealer informed us that the oil pump failed. After research and discussion with the dealer this has occurred with multiple 2019 X5's at that particular dealer as well as others. BMW has not issued a recall or extended warranty for the oil pump that is included in the b58 engine. That particular oil pump has casing that is made of plastic that is known to fail. In the 2020 model they then replaced that casing with metal. It is clear BMW knows of this issue and is not taking action to ensure the consumer's safety and investment is addressed.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 BMW X5

Failure Date: 12/30/2024

My water pump recall involves an electrical short circuits, that has disrupted other nearby electrical components, like the temperature sensor. • the water pump short-circuit is causing an oil leak directly that is putting a strain the engine and turbo system. • additionally, a faulty water pump or sensor allowed unnoticed overheating, further stressing the turbocharger seals and leading to dangerous oil leaks oil continues to leak into the turbo system, damaging my turbocharger, exhaust system, and even the catalytic converter • temperature sensor failure: overheating can cause catastrophic damage to the engine, including warping the head or blowing a gasket. • electrical short circuit: the recall issue is directly responsible for electrical malfunctions that are masking underlying problems, like overheating.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 BMW X5

Failure Date: 12/12/2024

I have a 2019 BMW X5 that experienced engine failure and required a new battery and starter to be installed. I feel certain that it is related to a recall on some 2019/2020 models but my VIN is not included. [xxx] I received a fault warning for drivetrain malfunction. I took the car to the BMW dealership and was told it was an upper radiator blind failure and had it replaced. The dealership performed a software update per recall sib 120524. The mileage was 36,981. While visiting family in new orleans[xxx] @ [xxx] in the afternoon, on decatur (heart of french quarter) the car died in the middle of rush hour traffic. Fault came up that said ”engine overheat will attempt restart in 180 sec. ” car would not start and had to be towed to local BMW. Highly stressful as I was with my daughter. We had people honking horns, screaming at us, police threatening to ticket us, etc. Ordeal lasted 2 hrs until tow arrived. After 4 days in the BMW shop I was advised a new battery was needed. No indication the starter was checked at this time. Mileage was 40,168. The next day [xxx] when driving home to dallas I pull over to get gas in natchitoches, la. I fill up and try to start car and failure notice shows up ”engine overheat will attempt restart in 180 sec”. Same thing as before new battery installed. The car did not restart even after an hr of waiting. Would not take a jump so we had to be towed to shreveport(1 1/2 hrs away) to closest BMW dealership. I was traveling with my son and was beyond grateful at the kindness of the tow driver as he took us to get food and a hotel that was safe after delivering the car to the dealership. The next afternoon the shreveport dealership determined that the starter failed and it had to be replaced. Mileage was 40,423. I feel I am due repayment for the tows and repairs on what I feel are recall related. I have contacted all 3 dealerships and north America BMW to get the run around. No one wants to take accountability! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informatio.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 BMW X5

Failure Date: 12/09/2024

On Dec 9, 2024 I was driving my 2022 BMW X5 45e on (in ev mode) local roads at approximately 30-35mph when all of a sudden I lost power and the steering wheel became tight. My instrument panels all showed a multitude of errors including: "chassis stabilization", "power supply", "reduced power", "transmssion malfuction", and others I do not recall. I was fortunately able to turn into a parking lot slowly, but the steering was tight to the point I had to use 2 hands to make turn. There was also no throttle response. As soon as the car came to a stop, I powered it off and turned it on. The car's screens were blinking and the car would not turn on. I contacted BMW roadside and the car was towed to the dealership at east bay BMW in pleasanton. As of today I am still waiting for a reply on the condition of the vehicle. Yesterday I was told that they will change out the battery first and see if this solves the problem. My biggest concern is that had this happened to me on the highway that I or someone would have gotten seriously injured or may result in death from an accident. I lost power to the car and the steering became stiff.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 BMW X5

Failure Date: 11/22/2024

The vehicle first reported a drivetrain malfunction and the message said to continue driving with reduced engine performance. The vehicle did get us home. I tested it the following day and received the same fault after a couple of miles of driving. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, a 50 mile trip. After a couple of weeks the dealer stated that the vehicle was ready for pickup. I got in the vehicle and 1. 5 miles later received a drive fault warning me to stop carefully and turn off drive ready mode. I was driving on a very busy narrow road looking for a place to pull over when the vehicle lost all motive power. Having no choice but to try and pull over very quickly as we were going up a hill. The police had the vehicle towed and returned us to the dealer. Losing all motive power without warning is I believe a serious safety issue. The vehicle has been with the dealer now 5 weeks with no resolution of the problem. I’ve told them that I want a full root cause investigation in writing before the vehicle is released back to me. I have zero confidence in the vehicle now.
