7 Water Pump problem of the 2013 BMW X5

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

My water pump failed at 57,000 miles while on the freeway. The car stalled at 30 mph until I could finally exit. Very dangerous situation. After leaving two messages on BMW dealer voice mail, I was towed to nearest auto shop that I had used previously. $1450 in repairs for faulty water pump/thermostat (bad design flaw - electronic sensor issue? ) BMW will not reimbusrse me since repairs weren't done at their repair shop, and have not issued a recall for 2013's even though they have for 2011-2012 models. It is unfair to limit repairs (per what they say are the certified pre-owned rules) since I wasn't aware of them, they didn't responsd to me in time, and it was obviously an emergency situation. Thank you for your consideration in this matter, so that nobody else is put in this dangerous as well as financial situation. Judy reid.

13 Water Pump problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

My battery was weak and the time came to change it. I changed the battery, the car starts beautifully. However I have a light system and restraint system malfunctions. My internal lights do not work, my indicator lights do not work. I have been told that my frm needs to be replaced. After doing some research online I have learned that this is a common problem in the X5 series. The vehicle has less than 50,000 miles on it and I only drive it on the weekends. This is the second major malfunction this year. The water pump needed replacement in February. I purchased this certified pos in 2016 from the mamaroneck dealership with 26000 on the vehicle. Oh I forgot to mention less than 6 months after purchasing the case there was an oil leak in the engine. I can't wait to finish paying for this car so I can go back to the more reliable Mercedes Benz that I was accustomed to.

19 Water Pump problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 05/10/2018

There was a water pump recall for my BMW X5, I took my X5 due to an engine malfunction, the dealer didn't do the water pump recall, instead, they charge me for replacing the ivm and the charge air pipe stating that was the engine malfunction, after I paid approximately $2,500 they came back and told me the engine malfunction was due to the water pump, so they charged me an additional $1,380 for the water pump. I just checked the recalls on my vehicles and noticed there's a water pump recall, however, I had to purchase the water pump and other items not needed for the engine malfunction message related to the water pump. How can I submit a reimbursement for the amount amount paid when there was a recall and I pay from my pocket the amount of $3,880. 00 related to the water pump. Also, the dealer did a drive shaft recall, however now the transfer case is not working, creating the front universal joint to fail after the driveshaft recall was done, the front wheels is affecting the vehicle traction. Water and debris may be entering the front driveshaft's universal joint and may cause excessive wear and possibly resulting in the joint's failure.

20 Water Pump problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

I was driving my BMW X5 and out of nowhere an "engine malfunction warning light" came up accompanied by an engine overheating, I immediately pulled over and called a tow-truck who took my X5 to the nears BMW dealer. The technician stated it was the ivm and the charge air pipe that needed to be replaced, after spending $1,500 on the 2 items, I drove out of the dealer and less than a mile down the road, the same "engine malfunction and vehicle overheating light" came back up. Called the dealer and another tow-truck pick up my X5, then I requested to speak with the shop manager who informed me the problem with the X5 was never pertaining to the ivm or charge air pipe, as they miss overlooked the diagnosis which stated the dme was not working. They change the dme and another $2,000 was charged, after it was repair and I drove away, the same engine malfunction light and vehicle overheating light came up, called the deaelr and they told me that after changing the dme, the new diagnosis stated the watter pump needed to be replaced and this was the part that was creating the engine malfunction and overheated vehicle warning to come up. I ended up changing the water pump and other vehicle parts, that did not needed to be changed and now a recall for the water pump came out. On the meantime, I spent almost $4,000. 00 on repairs when everything could have been done if they would have conducted the water pump recall. Who can reimburse me the amount of money paid? I sent the original dme to see if it was damage, and they came back stating it was not damage at all, therefore the problem was the water pump and not the dme, or ivm or charge air pipe. Please help!!!.

24 Water Pump problem of the 2013 BMW X5

25 Water Pump problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/08/2017

On 2017 oct 8th, in the middle of the highway, my car had a red message saying the engine was overheated and I need to turn off the car immediately. I pulled over to the side and turned off the engine to cool down for around 30 min. There were cars passing by in 80 miles right by us. It was terrifying. Felt like a car could crash into us any moment. I had to get off the highway and stop and turn off the engine every 5 min to come back home. 20 min drive almost took me 2 hours. I had my kids in the car with no ac. It was only a month after I put the car in service and paid $3086 for maintenance. I took it into BMW service and paid $2041 to get the water pump fixed. BMW service said that they cannot do anything until the car breakes down and have the message on. Which means all potential BMW could have a possibility of breaking down in the middle of the highway. The reason I'm filing this is that just last week I put the car into service and in the course of reasearching I came across the fact that BMW X5 water pump was recalled in 2018. I contacted BMW and they say my specific VIN was not affected. But it looks like as majority of the BMW and Mini water pumps were recalled, they have a fundamental issue with the water pumps. It is hard to believe when my water pump actually broke at 37000 mileage it's not related a defect at all. Also as especially they cannot prevent this issue my case clearly shows how dangerous it is to have a water pump failure in the middle of the highway. Pls review my case and issue a recall.

My family and I were stranded for hours waiting on a tow during unsafe conditions.

30 Water Pump problem of the 2011 BMW X5

Failure Date: 03/07/2017

When driving down the road, I heard a loud fan noise coming from the engine. I did a quick systems check to see if all systems were ok- they were. About 1/10 of a mile later, my car indicated that it was overheating and that I had reduced power. I couldn't drive over 35 miles per hour. Within the next 45 seconds, as I'm getting onto an interstate, my engine shuts off completely and I lose all power. I never had any warning and there is no way to tell engine temperature on this car. After having my vehicle towed and diagnosed by a certified dealer, I was told that the thermostat, water pump and expansion tank all needed to be replaced. I was informed that one of these items failed and caused the other two to break with extended use. This cost me $1990. There was no way I could have prevented this from happening. I've always had my car serviced at the recommended intervals.

31 Water Pump problem of the 2011 BMW X5

Failure Date: 02/28/2017

Drove my vehicle in to the BMW dealer for coolant leak/water pump service and oil change. The next day they inform me the car stalled during a standard test drive after the service was performed. The were unable to specify what caused the engine to stall and did not release diagnostics to me but told me that a new engine was needed. Ny state dept of vehicle forwarded a report stating vanos faults. There are currently BMW recalls for engine and engine cooling, electric auxiliary water pump failure, and an unspecified recall for vanos bolts unit that loosen or break over time causing the engine to have reduced power or stall. My VIN number is not under these recalls but should be.

32 Water Pump problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 12/26/2016

I was driving on the highway with a posted speed limit of 70 mph with my family on a road trip. The check engine light came on and said engine is overheatted and power is reduced. When I tried to press down on the gas, the car would not go faster. Traffic was a bit heavy and I was going 70 mph with traffic behind me. It was nerve wrecking to slow down (because the car isn't producing any power because the engine is overheatted) due to physics and needing to pull over to the side of a busy highway. When I took the car to the mechanic, they told me the water pump has failed. My car only has 55k miles on it.
