I was driving my 2000 Buick Regal coming back from work, as I was driving and about ready to go into a steep turn, my stereo system first completely shut off, then everything else in my car failed as well, engine, power steering, etc. I was barely able to get it to the side of the road and when I tried to restart it, it barely turned over. Clearly there is an electrical problem in these vehicles and my car hasn't even reached 100,000 miles even.

I was driving down the highway, 78 mph in rush hour and my engine died/no power, no brakes, no steering. Heavy traffic, no control. I made it to shoulder, very difficult to ease the vehicle over. No warning lights. Engine just died. No control. Once the car stopped after rolling at a high speed, I tried to start my engine. Engine started, and able to proceed. Next day, similar incident happened I was turning a corner. The same thing happened, I was going a lower speed. I had less control after the engine died, no warning lights etc. Very difficult to maneuver. I turned the key and it started. I took it to the dealer. They said needed oil change, and 3 quarts low on oil. And I was 1000 miles over . They were sending me home with oil change, I pleaded to look into further as I was in fear of my life driving. The service sheet indicated the car had multiple cam actuator system failure codes. The service manager said low on oil, and was safe,he went to get the car. The car stalled on him . . . No power, no alarms,no service engine soon lights, etc. Eventually, I convinced them to give me a vehicle to drive after initial denial. 1 week later, they have found nothing wrong. Said exhaust cam shaft actuator was broken. They replaced the timing chains, the actuators, and selenoids. Still no explanation why my car died driving down the road at 78mph they said sometimes it takes 3 failures or key cycles before an alarm will be set. Not sure if they truly found the problem so they have asked to drive my car for several days to see if the default continues to show up. I am very concerned that an engine should stop while traveling at high speeds 3 times before an alarm system or warning would ever be given to the driver that there may be a problem. I am still very concerned and am not sure if I should be driving this vehicle or not for fear of my life.

Today, may 31, 2014, I was driving and smelt a harsh smoke from my car. Upon pulling over, and turning the vehicle off, once started again the car's steering wheel would no longer turn (it locked up). About 4 years ago I was driving on the highway when the car shut off and the steering wheel locked up. I got the electrical system replaced. Between that time and now, lights dim on and off, at one point lights were flashing, the gas pedal began to screech slightly as of yesterday, and I can't leave items plugged into the cigarette lighter of the car overnight because the car will die. No longer feel safe to drive this car.

Engine stalls after first startup, then after restart all warning lights blink for long period. Vehicle stalls when stopping for a traffic signal or slowing down to turn. Then, when ignition switch was turned to off position, could not remove key, and could not turn engine off. Mechanic replaced ignition electrical switch, replaced ignition tumbler assembly, made new keys. We spent $1,171. 01 for these repairs. Wrote a long letter to Buick customer assistance center on July 1, 2014, and explained all the details of this ignition-related problem. Found 21 similar complaints at safercar. Gov. GMC never issued a recall notice on these ignition-related problems, and said our vehicle did not have certain defective manufacturer parts installed as original equipment. Who the hell installed these defective ignition-related parts?.
Several times my car has suddenly shut off while driving on roads and even the freeway. The steering wheel locks up and you cannot operate the vehicle. The last time this happened, it caused me to drift across two lanes and onto the shoulder of the road. There were other cars around that had to avoid me. I was driving with my two small children in car seats in the back. We were terrified! we are afraid to get into that car. It's a death trap. I don't have a lot of money. The car is only valued at $3,000, but the repairs are estimated at $1000. The dealership said it was probably the ignition switch that needs to be replaced. There is a gm recall right now for that same problem, but they have not yet included the Buick Regals. The dealership said they were aware of the defects, but could not cover the cost of repairing it, because my car wasn't listed on that recall yet.

Driving down the road at 30 mph without notice the car turned off with no apparent reason. Causing the car to loose power steering, power brakes, and rapid loss of speed in a busy downtown setting. This has happened 4 other times since then. We have read other complaints on forums recently and everyone who has replaced their ignition switch has not had a problem since. We would like this investigated because Buicks are not on the list at this time for the national recall.
Engine died while signalling a left turn going about 45 mph. Almost rear ended. Changed ignition switch module. No repeat reoccurance.

I was driving on a road at about 35 mph, I signaled to turned right and my vehicle went dead(the engine stopped-no steering or brakes. ) fortunately,no one was driving behind me. I came to a halt and tried starting the engine multiple times, but all that happened was the dashboard lights would flash. Finally, I tried moving the turn signal up and down and it started! since then this has happened multiple times. This should not happen on a low mileage car or any car! I have almost gotten into multiple accidents!.
While driving at approx 40 mph or more the engine suddenly cuts out and the steering locks up and the car violently stops, which could cause a fatal accident. This is very much like the ignition switch problem in the other recalls. After a few tries the car does start again but this is not acceptable. Also there has been smoke pouring from the engine on more than one occasion when the vehicle was not even operating for more than ten minutes, and often the smell of gas permeates the inside of the vehicle.

2000 Regal Buick with low mileage didn't pass nh state inspection because of code p0440 evaporation emission control system. When looking at gm recall there were 248 other 2000 Buick recalls with the same issue reported to general motors. This code has to do with the fuel system, gas lines and storage tank and can be very dangerous and catch the car on fire. I did call gm and filed a claim but they really don't care. Also there is a steering/suspension steering linkage free play. When doing research on this there was a recall (76128) and 979 people also reported this issue.
Six months after purchasing this used vehicle (with 29,000 miles on it) it completely stalled on the interstate while driving about 65 mph. It started braking by itself making it difficult to get to an emergency pull off area. This could have caused a serious accident considering it was rush hour. I took it to the dealership where they told me that the "throttle body" needed to be replaced. After getting it repaired the car drove fine until this year. At about 55,000 miles my car would start shaking very hard, brake pedal was almost to the floor, and it was almost impossible accelerate. I had to pull over and restart the car. This happened atleast 4 times. Eventually my car stalled out on me again while driving on the interstate. Once again this February the dealership blamed it on the "throttle body" and a powerline that was "completely corroded". After having them replaced, it drove ok for only a couple of months. Then all of a sudden in June my car started shaking very badly while driving on the interstate and I noticed that my brake was stuck I put my foot under the brake pedal to pop it out and the car then drove ok. I took it to the dealership and go figure the "throttle body" needed to be replaced, brake master cylinder had to be replaced, brake vacuum booster needed service, brake fluid system had to be flushed, and the engine air filter needed to be replaced. I walked away with a $300 bill because the warranty only covered some of the problems. One week later while it was pouring rain I was driving on the interstate and my car completely stalled for the 3rd time. A tractor trailor almost lost control trying to prevent hitting me as I slid off the interstate. Once I was safe I tried to restart it and the key broke off in the ignition. Now the immobilizer module has to be replaced. Please note that I keep the maintenance up on this vehicle.

1st time vehicle wheels and steering completely locked up when making a right turn blocking traffic and had to be towed after police and no one could release it. After having towed the vehicle to my home. I was able to release the lock and tested it before I decided to drive it to a gas station for gas. As I pulled out of the gas station the vehicle locked up again blocking two lanes of traffic coming at me on a 4 lane county road. I sent a letter to gm reporting the problem and the repair that was done, but I am very concerned that there may be other vehicles on the road that could end up with many deaths. And I am not confident that my problem has been solved.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Buick Regal. The contact stated while driving 55 mph the vehicle began to jerk. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and while the failure was replicated they were unable to repaired the failure. The vehicle was returned to the dealer weeks later and stated that the vehicle had a damaged spark plug. It was repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and escalated her case and stated they would stay in contact with the complainant. In the interim the vehicle began to make a rumbling noise when she made turns. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 9,135 and the current mileage was 9,200. Dt.
Was driveing down the highway going 65 and went to turn on my turn signal and my engine stoped. I nearly crashed the car. I tried to restart the car and everytime I used the blinkers the car would either turn off restarts the computer like I just started the car. The abs light and check engine light comes on now and the driver side headlight wont come on. I had a friend drive 3 hours to come and tow my car. I almost got hit by a semi truck because of this. Someone needs to get this issue fixed.
While traveling home from work on a very busy street (highway) the car died. Since then I never know when it's going to do it again. Some days it dies 5 or 6 times. I'm a senior reliant on social security income and any expense is "unwelcome", however, I have spent nearly $1,000 to no avail. Several times after a repair the car died a block from the repair shop. This usually happens in traffic. I have trained myself to flip the shift gear into neutral & turn the key on(car usually restarts - in 2 instances it did not and I was able to navigate into a nearby driveway using "armstrong power steering"). Characteristics are the same as those noted in the current (March 2014) gm recall. I love the vehicle and am not in a position to buy another, therefore, it would be splendid for gm to offer to repair it. . Read more...

There are multiple problems with this vehicle. One of my main complaints is the steering wheel is becoming very warm to the touch. Next, the key gets stuck in the switch and will not come out, causing the battery to run down. Also, the signal lights have gone out and are not repairable and the electrical windows have gone out due to rusting and are not repairable.
During routine maintenance discovered that the front rhs steering spindle to tie-rod attachment lug had cracked through one side of the lug. Spindle is fabricated from cast aluminum. Fatigue crack initiation from inclusion or potential casting defect was apparent before failure. Part number and photographs of the cracked surface are available.
Steering will not turn to left steering turns back to right violently.
When turning to the left I loose power steering control and when I turn to the right it works most of the time but not all the time leaving it very hard to turn. Mechanic checked the power steering and said that it was alright and that their was a recall on the lower pinion gear and to check it out. O a couple of occasion my steering was out of whack while driving and I almost went in the ditch.
Experience an intermittent loss of power steering assist when making left turns, usually at low speeds. When trying to turn left out of a parking space experience higher resistance or in a few cases assists towards the right. If this happens while the vehicle is moving, a crash could result.
Steering/linkage/drive shaft problem at 31,000 miles/3 years 11/06; 1/07. 2 occurrences of loud clunking noise when backing and turning out of driveway or any parking space. Does not happen every time. First time dealer lubed intermediate drive shaft, which cured problem for couple of months. Second time dealer could not hear noise, but said they would lube same part again. Noise was not fixed.
At low speeds (parking; turning) steering loss is experienced. Complained to dealer after first purchased. Was told to keep the rpms up to assist turning. Gets so bad I have had to stop and back up and use all my strength to turn the wheel.
Experienced a clunking noise when make turns at slow speed. Symptoms included looseness in the steering wheel and a popping in the brake pedal during turns at low speeds. This was fixed under warranty at about 25,000 miles (re-lubricating in the intermediate steering shaft), but the problem has resurfaced at 50,000 miles.
Steering shaft in my 2001 Buick has failed 3 times.
My car is currently exhibiting the exact same failures that are already listed on NHTSA for my make, model & year. However, they say my VIN# is not included in this recall. . . . . Even though I am experiencing the exact same problem listed! it is action #ea03019 campaign# 03v527000. Please I need help before I have a crash. . . . .
At night if the high beam lights are on, and I meet a vehicle while moving through a right curve, the dimmer switch cannot be activated because it hits the back of the steering wheel. Since this occurs almost every time I drive at night to go home, I'm afraid it could blind another driver and cause an accident. I have gotten bad reactions from other drivers when I can't dim the lights and meet them on the road. (I don't want to be the victim of road rage. ) I have experienced this problem since I bought the vehicle in 2004. The switch broke a few years back and it was replaced, but the new one still had the same problem. The dealership said that was the only model of switch in his catalog. It has a design flaw. It the turn signal handle was designed to be push away from the steering wheel instead of pulling it toward the steering wheel, there would be no problem.
The intermediate steering shaft became loose, making it difficult to steer, especially on slower speed. The problem continued.
While driving and making left turns it was difficult to steer, and the steering became stiff. Dealer determined a steering problem, but there was no recall.
