I just got a oil change, a week later the engine light came on, so I thought it needs a tune up so I took it to get one and they said it does not need a tune up, they have a code( p0008) they said is the engine position system performance, something about a belt that's lose n it needs to be fix soon or it can be dangerous if I don't fix it so I look around and saw a recall on that code, so I was reading about it, people being having the same problems but they all said that the dealer refuse to fix. How is that possible if is a recall,.

While returning from a trip, the engine shut off and all the power in the car was gone, while driving (in motion). We had been driving approximately 1. 5hrs. We were going about 65mph, when the radio and ac went off. There was a message that said something about "battery reserve" (?????) I turned the radio and air back on. Immediately after, "service brake assist" message, then entire dashboard (including speedometer) goes dead. Car shuts off and immediately decelerates. Fortunately, we were in the slow lane already and could get out of quickly moving traffic (and the cars behind us could swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting us). On the side of the road, all power was still lost and could not remove the key from ignition. Attempted to "jump off", which restored power to remove the key. But vehicle would not start and ultimately had it towed. Dealer said motor was locked but didn't know (or immediately care) why. After I prodded the service manager, the technician called to say it was the alternator belt that was locked, causing the motor to be locked. With all of the ignition switch issues that I have read about the last 2 days, I am concerned that neither of those are the cause, but a result. My key "fix" lasted about 2 days. Although mentioned, the key was not "fixed" on the next visit.

I am the owner of a 2006 Cadillac Cts 3. 6l v6 with a broken timing chain which is a $1,500 repair. I was traveling 70 mph down the highway when the timing chain went out and almost had an accident trying to pull onto the side of the road. I contacted gm and was told that even though my vehicle has the same engine as the 2007 model, it was not covered by the extended warranty. Upon researching this is a known issue with the Cadillac Cts from the very beginning of its appearance in 2003. The number of complaints from 2003 to 2006 for the timing chain on the nhtfs website was the same as the number of complaints in the years covered by gm¿s special extended warranty (gm subject 10287 concerning timing chain issue) for the 2007-2009 Cts. Gm realized the timing belts were an issue and found a way to only cover those 3 years by blaming the need to reprogram engine control module. By doing this they managed to prevent investigations by the nhtfs regarding the timing chain issue. While the engine control module may have contributed to the timing chain issue in the 2007 ¿ 2009 years, it is not the cause of the issue since the problem existed in the 4 years prior to the addition of the faulty engine control module. The years following the extended warranty there have been zero complaints related to timing chain issues. This indicates that perhaps the timing chains being used previously were likely replaced, but I do not have the resources to investigate that. The nhtfs has never investigated the timing chain problem in the 7 years it was occurring. Part of the problem is that most people filing a complaint about a timing chain don¿t know how to categorize it (I found instances under airbags, electrical, etc. ) these are only the cases that have been reported to the nhtfs, but the internet is filled with people complaining about the problem.
Check engine light came on and the Cadillac dealer as well as two independent shops gave the same diagnosis -- the timing chains [3] had evidently 'stretched' -- no recall, no warranty -- only $1,500. 00 out of my pocket -- who ever heard of such a dumb thing, this is not a Toyota with timing belts -- I am truly disgusted, that's the end of Cadillacs for me --.
I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden the vehicle lost all power. I was almost hit by the cars behind me. The timing belt had broken, and the motor is now blown due to the valves being bent. This was not only dangerous for me and my family, but is very very costly. I had previous issue with the vehicle losing power once while driving, also almost got into accident, but the mechanic could not find the cause. This was about 3 months earlier. It only happened on the highway going between 60 - 70 mph. This is so dangerous! I was over 2 hours from home, and had to pay a ridiculous amount to have the vehicle towed back home.

As I was driving down the highway, the stability control light came on, then the brakes seemed to jerk a little and the car lost most of it's power. I had a mechanic test it, and they said they couldn't find a reason for it. The stability control light stayed on, but I didn't seem to have the problem again until about 2-3 months later when I was going 70 down the highway, lost all power and the motor shut down. Cadillac would not restart, had to have it towed over 2 hours back home, only to find that this time the timing belt had broken and the motor is blown since these cars have interference motors which causes the valves to get bent when the timing belt breaks. I am now without a vehicle and was almost in 2 accidents due to this. Another issue is the light cover from the lights on the trunk came off in the car wash and broke. Apparently this is a known issue yet Cadillac refuses to fix it. Their adhesive was not strong enough to hold on the plastic. This was my first Cadillac, and will be my last. They are dangerous and they refuse to fix their failures.
Due to the recent gm problems with ignition switch I wanted to file this complaint on my 2011 Cadillac Cts as I am not hearing my car mentioned for recall. Twice within the first couple months of owning the Cts I started to accelerate into traffic from a stopped position and the car completely shut off like a light switch flipping. No sound was made but simply everything lost all power and forced me to coast into traffic. . . Twice!! I threw the car into neutral to try and restart it with no luck. It wouldn't even turnover. I had to come to a full stop (coasting to side of road after having traffic fly by me on a 3 lane highway) and then the car would restart like nothing happened. I took the Cts to ken dixon chevy/Cadillac (now waldorf Cadillac) in waldorf, MD and also to capitol Cadillac in greenbelt, MD. The techs told me the car showed no errors on the computer and also they could find no fault on the car and returned it to me. One tech did mention something about a heavy keychain could cause this. I passed him my keys and he said that my keys certainly shouldn't cause that due to the light weight. I am still driving the car and this latest news from gm has me very scared to drive this car in washington, DC traffic and put me and my family at daily risk. I posted this problem on the edmunds. Com Cadillac Cts car forum in March of 2012. No action was taken by gm customer service.
