I was traveling approximately 65 mph on a 3 lane highway, while mainitaning a constant speed. Suddenly all power to the vehicle cut off including my power steering and braking. In a panic as I as coasting I was fortune enough to weave my way across 2 lanes to the side of the highway and roll to a complete start. After gathering myself I turned the ignition from the run position to off. I looked up and noticed there was smoke coming out from under the hood. I jumped out, lifted the hood, and heard popping and steam/smoke rising up from underneath the engine by the firewall. I pulled the oil dipstick and I was about a quart low, and it looked normal. I waited about 30 min and checked the level again with the same result. I then tried to start the vehicle and there was not response at all. I was unable to roll up my windows, and there was no power to display any information on dash. When my wife arrived I hooked up jumper cables and after a while I was able to turn the key forward to see the instrument panel. It said my battery was at the correct volts, and there were no warning lights on my dash. When I turned the ignition to start. My dash flickered rapidly and there was a clicking noise but the engine made no sound as if it was trying to turn over. So I called tow truck and got towed to my house. The vehicle was purchased by me in 09 with 32k miles. It had an issue where it was eating up to 4 quarts of oil every 1k-3k miles. I had purchase an extended warranty so bye 50k miles they tore apart engine replacing pretty much the entire engine. The car currently has less then 20k miles since warranty rebuild and I am at a loss. I put a new battery in it and that has done nothing to help. Still just makes a strange clicking noise. I have no idea what to do now. It is a 2005 Cts 3. 6l base automatic transmission.

S10 appropriate handling- letter to the secretary from constituents re copy of letter to mary barra, chairman and chief executive officer (ceo), general motors expressing dissatisfaction with after service care. The consumer stated there was a loud ticking noise coming from the vehicle, when it was started. The dealer inspected the vehicle, and assured the consumer the vehicle was dependable. On may 27, 2014 the consumer felt a mild vibration through the steering wheel. The dealer stated the balance was off, but everything was fine. On June 15, 2014, while driving, the consumer heard a loud bang, then a rough ticking sound and felt a shudder through the steering wheel. He gently braked and pulled over to the shoulder, inspected the vehicle, but found nothing wrong. After the vehicle was inspected again, and being told there was nothing wrong. He continued to experience a vibration through the steering wheel, and the thumping became more pronounced. Also, the vehicle lurched and a loud bang and heavy vibration, was flt throughout the car. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The consumer explained to the dealer about the vibration tear in the cloth shield he discovered, the tow truck driver brought two of the four that held the drive shaft together to the service representative. The dealer informed the consumer the vibration tear was a cigarette burn, and the drive shaft bolts falling out of the vehicle and bearing failure were issues address several times before. After the vehicle was returned to the consumer, there was low pitched whistle during light to moderate acceleration, which he did not hear when he first purchased the vehicle. Also, there was a light weight oil/fluid leaking from under the engine area. He noticed the fuel consumption range had dropped from 17-18 mpg to 15 mpg. The rear end felt less stable and there was a slight shift when coming off driveways or over uneven pavement. (2011 Cadillac Cts).

Car engine failed at 30,000 miles - it started making a clicking sound, so my husband decided to take it to the shop. He didn't even make it to the shop - just had to tow it. The car was driven gingerly by my 80 year old grandmother for 7,000 miles, then by me (age 40 with two children in car seats) for the remaining miles. Cadillac offered to pay 1/2 the cost to rebuild, but the total cost was estimated at over $15,000. They said there weren't any new engines to drop in, but they found one used engine (with 1 mile on it) that they could use that would cost about $4,150. However, they wouldn't pay any of the cost of dropping in the used engine. We opted to replace the engine at our cost instead so we could get away with paying $4,150 instead of $7,500. I complained to gm service department, and kept being given incorrect information. One person would tell me they would pay 1/2 the cost to repair or replace the engine, the next would say they would not pay. I kept good records of all persons contacted during the long, long process. They even had me gather all my prior service records so they could be certain the car) had been properly maintained (which it had. ) at one point I was even told (by the district specialist office at gm) that my grandmother had apparently purchased an extended warranty on it, and they could just use that. Later, I was told that no extended warranty existed. I was led on and misinformed for 1 1/2 months, while my car sat at the dealership 90 miles away. I was without my vehicle for 1 1/2 months, while everyone decided what should be done, and as it ends up, it could have been done immediately if I hadn't been given the run around being told gm was going to help with the repair cost. Not a good experience - not a good car.
