Our 2004 Cadillac Deville power steering will fail during a rainfall or very misty weather. The power steering will stop working and the car will be extremely difficult to steer. This may happen at any speed, and the failure will continue for between about 4 and 10 seconds. This has happened three times during the past three years, and it has occurred at various speeds - 25 mph, 35 mph and 60 mph. It does not seem to be associated with driving through standing water, but merely requires that it is raining or that there is a heavy mist. During dry weather there is no problem with the car's power steering. This latest power steering failure took place today, September 7, 2011.
In the past month power steering has failed in wet weather 7-8 times. To date this has happened when turning off city streets, but I am terrified that this will happen on the interstate and I will be unable to control the car. The steering re-engages when the ignition is turned off and back on. It also re-engages after several seconds if the ignition remains on. We bought the car new and this problem just started happening, but now happens everytime it has rained. I contacted Cadillac and they have no information or recalls despite what I found (on an internet search) to be a problem others have experienced on this model for years 2003-2005. Does someone have to be killed before this is addressed? I transport my young grandchildren daily in what was supposed to be a large "safe" car. This is a very dangerous situation. Basically, I feel that we can no longer safely drive this car in wet weather and we live in florida where we can't always predict if and when it will rain.

Power steering failed during rainy weather.
Every time I drive during rainy weather, the power steering of my 2004 Cadillac Deville malfunctions. I have had several near-crashes because I was unable to turn the steering wheel. When this happens, I must unexpectedly exert a lot of strength to turn the wheel. This problem is definitely a safety hazard. I contacted my authorized Cadillac dealer and was told that the cause for the problem is the peculiar design of this vehicle. When the belt gets wet or moist, it slips on the pulleys and ceases to turn them, causing the power steering pump to fail. The dealer was not able to correct this design defect. I request that this particular model be recalled because of the repetitive failure of the power steering system. This is a recurring problem and has happened again today three times. Please instruct general motors to correct this serious safety hazard before somebody gets killed or is seriously injured.
The contact owns a 2001 Cadillac Deville. The contact stated while making a turn, the power steering failed as the steering wheel became extremely hard to maneuver. The repairs were performed twice before and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The consumer stated after the vehicle was serviced, it started vibrating. She returned to the dealer, where they informed her the motor mount needed to be replaced. All four power window motors had to be replaced, and the service engine soon light illuminated. The ignition needed to be replaced, and she was unable to start the vehicle on two occasions. The abs and traction system failed. The power steering hose line was replaced twice. Updated 07/16/14 updated 08/11/lj.
