An article in today's wall street journal indicated that the NHTSA is conducting an investigation into possible general motors car defects. Notably difficulty in the power steering making a left hand turn. My 2000 Cadillac Deville , with 60,000 miles is experienceing just such an issue. I took the car into columbus Cadillac and they said I needed a new steering rack - the installation of which would cost $ 1,300. 00. The car steers fine in making a right hand turn but is extremely difficult in making a left hand turn. I encourage your review of this matter for a possible recall, for there is no excuse for this safety issue to arise at such mileage- the vast majority of which has been highway mileage. .
While making a left hand turn, the steering wheel locked up. The driver managed to pull over, although with some difficulty. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. The consumer was informed by the mechanic that the cause of the steering wheel locking up was due to the rack and pinion. The rack and pinion was replaced.

Loud intermitent grinding noise hear when steering turned when backing outand turning wheel car driven less than 100 miles. As car milage increases noise is becoming more constent. Windshield the rubber gaskets on both sides is installed on top of the glass instead of in the groves provided. This allows road salt and other debris to accomulate at bottom corners of windshield. This causes a messey appearance and will eventually cause corrosion. In the event of an accident the windshield may pop out degrading the body integrity. Poor alignment. All points with the exception of the rear camber could be adjusted to specifications except the rear camber.

Steering gear rack & pinion failed.
When making a turn the steering wheel steers in the opposite direction. The dealer said that this problem was normal. Consumer states this only happens during right turns and in the passing lane, dealer has performed an alignment and replaced rack and pinion, however this has not corrected the problem.
