I have had to tape the light switches into place with duct tape. And the radio and a/c control area I have proped up with a shelf bracket to try and hold it in place. It returns in seconds but I am disabled and it is very difficult for me to control the car. Luckily this has only happened at low speeds. I'm afraid of being killed. 16 Steering problem of the 2000 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

My complaint is about the remedy for recall #14v355. The July 2, 2014 letter to nancy lewis re:NHTSA notification campaign no. 14v-355 from brian latouf, gm, states on page 3 that "the torque performance of the ignition system may be insufficient to resist energy generated when the vehicle goes off road or experiences some other jarring event". This is the same ignition switch that gm hid from the public for years which resulted in 196 claims for death, 116 catastrophic injuries and 1,460 other injuries. Instead of replacing the faulty ignition switch for the recall, your organization is allowing gm to block the key from being placed on a key ring with house keys, the remote fob that comes with the vehicle to operate door locks, seat positioning, trunk release and panic alarm. And the gm provided Cadillac medallion that is used to return the key to me if it becomes lost. Most people need to keep house keys on the car key ring, and the fob is integral to using the vehicle. The recall fix being allowed by your agency is dangerous and wrong. Subsequent owners of the vehicles will not know about the recall and pop the little piece of plastic out of the key hole and attach all of their keys on one key ring. For current owners, this takes away one of the functions of the vehicle, the fob usage and makes life more difficult having to keep track of a single car key and their key ring with esential keys on it. According to the washington post, gm knew about the defect and changed the ignition switch part in newer vehicles using the same part number to avoid a recall as people were injured and died. Gm's fix leaves my car with its defective ignition switch which is still subject to catistrophic failure. Who are you protecting? gm? not me and I am terrified. I want my ignition switch replaced with one that is properly designed and manufactured for the safe use of my vehicle.

19 Steering problem of the 2004 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

I veered right to avoid a vehicle who approached over the center yellow line, the wheel locked, and I crashed over guardrail and into a utility pole. The airbags never deployed. I was not injured, and did not seek medical attention. The vehicle was a total loss. I did not know my vehicle was involved in a recall until my insurance provider sent me a document to that effect as part of the payout for the car. I've been driving for over 40 years, I am a defensive driver. I have 15 keys on my keychain what happened was just as they outlined I am totally screwed in this whole situation.

21 Steering problem of the 2003 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

I was driving at approximately 60 mhp on i77 north - without notice of any kind it became very difficult to steer my vehicle and I lost control as well as all power & acceleration. All of this happened so fast but I looked down and noticed several dash board/warning lights on. These lights normally only go on for a second or so when starting the car. Having no power or acceleration I was able to navigate my car to the side of the road with out an accident but immediately noticed that my ignition was already turned off. The ignition key was not all the off - just in the position as if I was parked and wanted to listen to the radio. Once pulled over I placed the car in "park" turned the key all the way off and restarted the car. It started right up. However, now both my "service engine soon light" and "air bag" light stays illuminated at all times. They do not go out once the car is started. I am not able to notice any difference in the performance or handling at this time but am concerned with the lights remaining on at all times when driving as well as the safety of the air bags.

22 Steering problem of the 2005 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

When trying to make a turn on wet roadway (not a puddle of water) or trying to turn at a light for instance while it is raining, even at a low rate of speed, the power steering locks and the car will not continue to turn, causing traffic behind you to come to a screeching halt. After stopping the steering will slowly loosens up allowing you to complete the turn. I have had it checked out with my repair garage but they couldn't find anything. Since I am aware of this happening I'm very careful when making a turn in the rain. I'm thankful I wasn't on the interstate doing 60.

31 Steering problem of the 2003 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

The key locked up all at once and would not allow the vehicle to turn on or off. We had the Chevrolet dealer in coolidge, az, (garrett motors) replace the key cylinder. Now general motors has sent us a recall request for this part which we took to our local Chevrolet dealer in faribault, mn. There we were told to contact Cadillac and were given a form to fill out to request reimbursement for this part which we had paid $212. 39 for. Cadillac is now denying our request saying that the key lock cylinder is not what the problem was since they say it was only the key. At the time, the newly made key was not available to the dealers as it had not even been considered a recall part at that time. This problem happened on 3/22/14 and shortly after in April the media broadcast that the recall process had began on this part . We feel we are entitled to a refund and would appreciate your looking into this on our behalf.

32 Steering problem of the 2004 Cadillac Deville

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

This car has continually stalled out at different speeds. I was told it was the throttle position sensor so I replaced that. That seemed to fix it temporarily but just yesterday I was driving on the highway and the car completely cut off going 55mph plus. The car completely stalled died out and I had no control over anything. Had this happened in the fast lane with more traffic my death would have been on the news. I want this fixed at no cost to me as this is ludicrous this car has such a defect. I buy a high end luxury car for high end luxury not to be in a pinto type death trap. I want this documented so others also know about this issue as dealer should know about issue and not being able to replicate results is bs as I stated it doesn't happen often but at random times. Car starts up right after the stall but the stall is the horrific issue!.

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

While pulling into a parking space in front fo a store car I went through a puddle of water. The steering immediately froze and the belt began to squeal. The steering came back within 10 seconds but for the ten seconds I could not steer the car. This is about the 10th time this has happened. I keep going to the dealership, they put on belt dressing but it does not help. Something needs to be done since this seems to be a common occurence with the 2005 Deville.
