I was leaving a restaurant and as I was crossing the intersection my car shut off ,I got it started and as I got to the red light it shut off again so had to keep my foot on the brake and gas at the same time. Once I got back on the interstate I had no more problems. About 6 months later I was at mcdonalds drive-thru at 2am when my car shut off, I coasted into the closest parking space and my car locked up and I had no power at all and I was locked inside I manually unlocked my door got out of my car and I had to call aaa. My car would not crank when aaa man tried to jump under the hood, he had to take my backseat out to jump start it, he got it started and he told me he couldn't understand what happened. On another occasion my gas pedal sticks and I had to pull over and shut my car off and I waited about 5 minutes and started my car up and it was fine after that, and my car still shuts off most when I am idling or going slow thru town and my service stability warning steady runs, I turn the reset button and it comes back on , please help me fix these problems because I love my car.

Car would not steer to right in rain. Difficult to turn steering wheel especially to the right. Only after stopping could I turn the vehicle to the right w/o considerable difficulty. My wife had complained about this before but I did not think it was like this. The dealer told my wife they have this problem. If so it is going to get someone killed. The car is an 04 model and has just over 51,000 miles.
During heavy rain or driving through water the steering completely goes out. Scared the living daylights out of me today. . . . Almost hit by a log truck while turning left into my neighborhood. Oct 2011 I took to dealer and they said that they have had other such complaints, but no recalls have been issued on this problem and they didn't know how to fix the problem. Does someone have to be killed before this problem is addressed? I saw the same thing happen a year or so ago to an elderly lady turning into our neigbborhood in her Cadillac Deville. . . She just stopped in the middle of a busy 2 lane road. . . Luckily several people were at the intersection waiting to turn out of the neighborhood and were able to start the car and push it to safety. I didn't think anything about it at the time until the same thing happened to me. . . And I remember that the day it happened to my neighbor it was also raining. This is a major problem with an accident waiting to happen. Something should be done by gm about this before someone is killed! now I never drive my car when it's raining and if it happens to rain while I'm out my nerves are completely shot! I'd like to get rid of the car, but I could not in good conscience pass this vehicle onto another person knowing what I know about the steering issue.
I backed out of my driveway, shifted to drive, began driving on my street and the wheel came off and the car hit the ground. The drivers side ball joint broke. Had I been on the freeway, this would have caused a multi-car accident with injury and or death to many people. Oem ball joints, especially on an expensive car like a Cadillac Deville, should have a lifetime or the same life expectancy as the other major components, including the frame. It is an engineering defect (inferior metal strength and quality) for a ball joint on a Cadillac to "break" for no reason. It should be forbidden and punitive for a balljoint on a Cadillac to break before 300,000 miles. Why should consumers be forced to play russian roulette with their lives???? a good quality product that is permanently lubed as in the Cadillac line, should be reliable for the life of the vehicle. Anything else is the same as attempted murder and should be forbidden or punished. The public must be protected from this type of suicidal journey in a reasonably new vehicle that has been maintained.
While turning at low speed, the steering locked and the wheel could not be turned. Conditions were wet/rain. This has happened multiple times over the past year. My regular service man has contacted gm regarding this, and they have no fix. This is obviously a known problem. This is very dangerous.
Notified last summer (2014) about recall. . . In September (2014) notified to schedule an appointment for the repair. . . Have called the local dealer several times. . . . Dealer does not have the necessary materials to correct the problem. Have experienced several times the ignition turning off. . . . (the reason for the recall). . . Fortunately have not had an accident. What is holding up the repairs? why send a letter instructing us to now get it repaired when the local dealer does not have the materials needed? very frustrating!!!!.

A recall letter was sent to me, I contacted to gm to let them know their recall was a little too late and luckily I was not on the road when this happened I was in a store parking lot when this occurred. I experienced complete loss of brakes, steering and electrical. I thought it was a battery issue. I purchased a new battery. I had to carry the battery 3 miles each way, it was not the battery . Car was towed, repairs were found to be ignition problem and a module needed to be replaced, costing over $800, how do I get reimbursed for this? gm said they would get back to me and its been 3 weeks,I have heard nothing. I would appreciate your help. I have all the receipts and had we been told of the recall a big exspense might of been saved, how do I get some sort of claim form to get reimbursed?.
Tl - the contact owns a 2004 Cadillac Deville. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Pam.
Steering will lock up when driving through standing water. Unable to steer right or left, can only steer straight ahead for approximately 10 seconds. Then steering will return to normal. This happens any time vehicle is driven through standing water at any speed.
The contact owns a 2001 Cadillac Deville. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact stated that the brake pedal became extremely difficult to depress and the steering wheel locked. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into a tree and the air bag deployed shortly afterwards. The vehicle did not shut off after the crash and caused sparks and fuel fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle. The police had to cut the wires and detach the battery in order to turn off the vehicle. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a broken tailbone, a cracked sternum, and bruises and contusions across the chest. Medical attention was received. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.

Whenever it rains or there is high humidity, the power steering completely locks up. I was almost in an accident yesterday due to this, and have had the problem before also. This is a serious defect. I have been to the dealership and they claim there is no recall or known way to fix it.

Vehicle steering becomes difficult or fails in rain or wet road conditions on right hand turns at slow speeds, or when pulling in or out of a parking space. This has been ongoing for at least two years.

Intermittent -has happening more than a dozen times over the years- while negotiating a turn when the weather is wet (raining or shortly after rainstorm) the power steering freezes up for several seconds. Extremely frightening experience. Panic sets in if on the road (as opposed to a parking lot) because one becomes powerless to avoid oncoming danger and fearful that stalled position of vehicle (1/2 way through a turn) may cause accident for others. Want to know cause!!! want to know remedy!!!.
During rainy weather or high humidity, the steering on my 2004 Cadillac fails. This has caused several near-collisions. The Cadillac dealer told me that this is a design defect on this model. Something must be done before I or someone else gets hurt or killed!.
Rainy season has started in florida. I ran our 2004 Deville through a very shallow puddle on the 14th of may, and immediately lost the ability to turn the steering wheel in either direction. Using muscles power it was almost impossible to turn the wheel. Fortunately we were in a grocery store parking lot with no traffic.
Front wheel bearings have dangerously failed prematurely two times in 113,000 miles. Failed dangerously at 60,000 and 113000 miles. This resulted in front wheel shimmy (shaking steering wheel excessively) at high speeds and at all times when braking. Felt like I was loosing brakes when braking down a hill. When car is jacked up wheel rocked back and forth about 2 inches. Seems to me that this is a common problem on gm cars that use the cartridge type of wheel hub bearing assemblies as indicated by numerous post on the internet and my personal experience as an auto mechanic.
Im desperate. On four occasions the car cuts out. This morning doing 35mpg the car went dead. No steering---really scary. This is thefifth time this has happened. Cad. Admits the problem but does not have the part. They refuse to give me any alternative. Please please see if you can do anything to resolve this very serious problem this is my second attempt to express my concerns.
2005 Cadillac Deville. The power steering has gone out three times in the last two days. The weather was rain or the day after rain. I went to the Cadillac dealer ship on July 8 and told them what happened. After the car was checked by the dealer I was told the belt may have been wet from the rain. I have driven this car for three years and never had this problem.
While driving in rainy conditions, the driver, my dad, exited an interstate highway onto a down-sloped ramp. Near the termination point of exit where it had a left turn and a right turn lane, he attempted to turn the steering wheel to the right to enter the right turn lane. However, the steering wheel locked up, failing to turn the wheels to the right, and the car struck another car sitting in the left-turn lane. My mother, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered whiplash as a result of the incident. My dad experienced the rainy weather steering problem many times during the 41,000 miles he drove the car. Although he addressed the problem with various Cadillac dealerships and independent mechanics several times, none of them ever fixed it. I inherited the car upon my dad's death, and the first time I drove it in the rain in December 2012, the steering wheel froze when I attempted to make a left turn on a city street, and I nearly struck a pedestrian crossing the street. I reported it to Cadillac via their website in December 2012, but they didn't respond to my inquiry. The car is virtually useless to me, but I, out of good conscience, won't sell it to someone else. . Read more...
While driving 25 mph, smoke started to come from the steering wheel. The consumer managed to drive home. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Please provide more information.

The vehicle would make a noise when driving over bumps and the driver had difficulty steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic replaced the sway bar links and the steering rack. Vehicle only has less than 50,000 miles. There was binding when hot and dry binding when cold, the tire were wearing on the insides and thin.
Whenever the vehicle goes through even to a moderate water puddle the power steering is subject to temporary failing and the drag on the wheel is considerable. Very hard to steer for several seconds. Many people would be unable to control the car. Number of failures is many but this is the first time I have been able to get together and report the matter.

While driving the vehicle at the speed of 35mph, the engine shut off. Lost the control of the power steering. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.
After starting the vehicle and driving approximately three to four miles the service stability control system comes on. Had it checked by a Cadillac dealer. They indicated the vehicle needs to have the steering wheel position sensor (1287) and the wheel sensor (?) (1255) ebtcm replaced at a cost of $1230. 00.
While making a left turn without warning, steering wheel locked up, unable to control vehicle. Stepped on brakes in order to control vehicle. *akjg.
There is a moaning sound at very low speeds when the wheel is turned to the right and vibration on the passenger's side under the floor board.
While driving in the rain steering wheel will not turn. Consumer has come very close to having a collision on several occasions. Took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced steering belt. Next time, dealer put on a splash pan. However, consumer is still experiencing the same problem.
