Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor Problems of Chevrolet 1500

Chevrolet 1500 owners have reported 9 problems related to brake antilock wheel speed sensor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

Gm recalled this vehicle in 2006 due to corrosion of front abs speed sensor (chev recall #05068c: product safety - front wheel speed sensor corrosion). My abs are pulsing at very low speed - stop signs/lights/parking etc. This is characteristic of the corrosion issue. I've been told I had the repair (I don't doubt it - there were two - one for rear parking brake and one I didn't really research - I just took it in - I assume that was this issue - sensor corrosion). I know the vehicle is 13 years old. However, I'm the original owner, and it has only 87,000 miles. It was always garage kept. It lived in WI for its first 11 years, and now resides on the southern or coast. My question: once an oem makes a safety repair under recall, is there an obligation that it solves the problem? or is it the usual 1 year parts and labor thing? thanks!.

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

When attempting to stop on dry pavement at slow speeds, five miles per hour or below the anti lock braking system activates which prevents the vehicle from stopping correctly. This is a safety issue which can lead to rear end collision. They have recalled many other vehicles for this same exact problem (speed sensors and bearing assembly failures) and it is obvious my vehicle has the same exact problem and should be recalled for correction for safety reasons.

3 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/16/2013

There was a recall on August 29 2005 for this problem. Recall number 36327 I have this problem with my truck right now how should I handle this situation? it is the hydraulic: abs sensor (the problem started slowly and now its bad) I just found out about the recall.

4 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

My 1998 chevy w/t 4x4 has a dangerous and unsatisfactory braking problem. Brakes are very weak and spongy. They are undependable and unsafe. There is complaints about this problem dating back to 2009. I have replaced pads, shoes, rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, all brake springs and hardware, brake lines and hoses, master cylinder and brake booster, and wheel speed sensors. Clearly there is a problem in the anti lock computer control system. There are recalls for 1999 models for same problems. Why aren't 1998 models included. There is obviously safety issues with my, and many other truck owners as well. Next safety issue, the windshield wipers only work on one speed, high. Or they stop working while driving. It is a safety issue that has continued to be reported many times. Third is fuel gauge only works from 3/4 to full, doesn't move until you run out (empty). These issues should be addressed to the proper manufacturer . All these complaints from myself and hundreds of other tax paying americans , we deserve to be safe and protect other drivers .

5 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

My 2000 chevy silverado abs is being activated at low speeds when slowing down to a stop and it is also being activated when coming to a slow turn into a parking spot. This is very dangerous as I have had several close calls of almost crashing into buildings or other vehicles as this problem is causing brake failure! I experienced pressure and slight jerking then complete failure as the brake hit the floor causing complete loss of control! I have had 2 separate mechanics diagnose this problem and both do not find anything mechanically wrong with it and no dash sensors indicated or error codes found. One mechanic checked the wheel speed sensors and no error. I have paid to have my brakes and wheel bearings replaced and this did not fix the issue and it was expensive. I am frustrated and began searching recall notices & found that other people have this same issue and chevy issued a recall notice #05068 iowa, minnesota, michigan, missouri, new hampshire, ohio, etc. The "salt belt", the problem on top of brake failure is that I reside in south dakota! and I am not included in this recall of my surrounding states. Now I have just gotten off the phone with chevy at their 800 number, and was told no recall listed for my VIN# & most likely I will pay for repairs of their defective vehicle.

6 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 01/17/2008

I have a 2001 silverado. My anti-lock brakes are coming on at slow speeds, making it sometimes very hard to stop. Yesterday when pulling into my work parking space I could not stop and jumped the curb. If there were someone walking on the sidewalk they would have been hit.

7 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1997 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

From everything I've read and researched, my 1997 Chevrolet k1500 from minnesota has the corroded abs speed sensors. At low speeds when stopping the abs comes on even on dry pavement. This has cause me roll out into intersections unable to stop. The possible consequences of this defect could be catastrophic. I understand there is a recall, but it doesn't include 1997 or minnesota which makes absolutely no sense considering the problem and its potential risks.

8 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

Front speed sensors failed in 2005 before the recall on my 2002 chevy silverado z71. Had recall taken care of in 2005. They are failing again this year 2011 and now the rear brake line just ruptured yesterday 12/18/2011. My husband agrees that salt at is part of the problem with the brake lines but the abs sensors is an on going chevy problem in these trucks and once the recall is performed once, the future failures are up the the owner to fix and cover the cost. My truck is a 2002 but it only has 76,000 miles on it. All these braking issues should not be happening. And seriously they build these right here too, although mine says built in fort wayne , indiana, you would think they would be better made. And why did the stuff start really failing after my extended warranty ran out? go figure.

9 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/03/2004

While braking vehicle pulsated, and the abs brakes engaged. Dealership repaired the problem four times, but problem recurred. When applying the brakes at low speeds on dry pavement the abs kicked in. The dealer has replaced the front speed sensor four times but the problem recurs.
