42 Service Brakes problem of the 1999 Chevrolet 1500

I was driving down the highway and the light turned red. I pushed on the braked and the pedal went to the floor. I swerved around a car and ran through the light. Luckily no one was going through it at that time. I then pulled over after I down shifted and used the emergency brake to stop. Upon inspection, the line was rusted through and the rest of them were right behind the one that ruptured. Gm should be ashamed. Think they're waiting for someone to die, if they have'nt already.

Some friends borrowed my 2000 chevy silverado to haul some sheet rock headed down to hardware store and ended up calling me with a smoking engine told them to bring it back to the house. My buddy said the brakes didn't stop all that good on the way over and went right to the floor looking under the hood I had him push the brakes and fluid shot out of the break lines running along the body frame they look all corroded in one location and one of them burst. We are fortunate the only ran to the hardware store and not on the highway it could of ended very badly.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

Driving down 2 lane road at approximately 40 in a 45 mph zone. Traffice light turned yellow at the worst possible moment. Decided to panic stop, pressed the pedal hard, immediately the pedal went to the floor and the brake warning came on. Truck did not have sufficient braking to stop and I had to plow through the intersection, thank god I made it through safely. From this point until I reached home, very little braking was possible, very unsafe. Upon inspection, the rear line had burst, requiring $200 in repairs. A few months earlier the gas line rusted through also, costing another $200.

50 Service Brakes problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 02/12/2013

The transmission in this vehicle is a total piece of junk. There are many, many vehicles with this same transmission. It locked up slinging the driver into the steering wheel and windshield. This broke the bolts holding the seat to the frame. The cost to fix was over 1200 dollars. I've talked with several transmission shops, each one is in business due to the fact that this transmission is defective. They repair or replace more of these than all other times 400. It appears that this problem has been a problem since first being used. It also appears that no one is being held accountable for the repairs and/or deaths, injury that is being caused by this defective unit. It's oindtalled in millions of vehicles worldwide. When is something going to be done ? when is someone going to be held accountable ? stop this madness, please ! the time it's taked me to fill out the form, dozens of people were injured due to the above statement.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 1998 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

1998 chevy silverado k1500 brake issue: while braking at low speeds (20-10 mph) the abs will engage, increasing stopping distance. On some occasions the pedal will become very firm and will require pumping to disengage the abs. On other occasions the pedal will be soft, going to the floor, while abs is engaged. A clear safty issue. A recall should be considered since many of these vehicles exist on the road today.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

I parked my truck at a restaurant parking lot no problem. We finished eating, started truck, pushed on brake to put in reverse and pedal went to the floor, no brakes or resistance. Inspection revealed no signs of leaks. Lines were extremely rusted and eventually a small leak was found in the front driver wheel well area. Upon research this is an extremely known issue. As a chevy owner I was never contacted about this issue. Luckily no accident occurred but it easily could have as we were on our way home about 30 miles on a 65 mph highway. Please advise as to what remedies are being offered. This could be a deadly problem. Thanks.

Looks like cleaning really didn't do the job.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/16/2012

Thank goodness I just got off a major roadway in town. My 16 year old son was driving the vehicle. We got home and I had to run back out. I was driving at the time. Pulled out of my cul-DE-sac and went to apply the brakes at the stop sign and the pedal went to the floor. Lucky no cars or children were in my path. All lines are rusted out. Had two sections (front) with major rot that were leaking. No indicator lights or signs prior to malfunction. Bought new lines from local auto parts store and have been replacing a little at a time. Entire underside of truck looks like its 50 years old!!!! will see what rots out next.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

My 16 yr old son drove thru an intersection with no brakes. Just avoiding an accident. I know 4 other people that own the same kind of vehical with the exact same problem. 63 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

The brakes went out - not totally out I but had to push the breaks all the way to the floor to get the car to slowly stop. I had very little stopping power. Shortly thereafter (3- 4 minutes later ) the instrument break warning light came on. Had I been going any faster I would have surely been in a serious accident. The car was towed to a Chevrolet dealer. They discovered a leaking break line. They indicated that it was a result of excesssive rust in the break line. The warning light should have come on much sooner and the break line should not have rusted through. $3,000 later, it was fixed.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

I was towing a new ranger bass boat home from fishing. I was coming down hill toward a stop sign at a intersection and when I hit the brakes. The check brakes came up on info center. The pedal went to the floor. I had to jam it down in to first gear and use parking break to get it slowed enough to turn. It was also a 55mph speed limit road. Thank god no one was coming. I got pulled off the road and checked what was going on. The hard break line going to the driver side rear was blown apart. It had rusted completely in half. After further investigation of the lines they are all in extremely bad shape. They are all rusted and now starting to leak in places. Along with that my gas line is now rusted in half and now leaking. Something needs to be done before someone is killed.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/04/2012

When I turn left into a parking spot the abs system goes on (even on dry surfaces where there is no slipping) and the vehicle doesn't stop as quickly as it should. This has happened many times.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Rusting fuel line caused a significant fuel leak in the rear of the vehicle near the fuel tank, while repairing that line I observed several other rusting lines in that area brake, and more fuel lines.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 01/15/2012

I was pulling into a restaurant today 01/15/12 and hit the brakes and the abs system engaged and wouldn't stop the vehicle. I had to use the emergency brake to avoid a collision. I had hit a bump previously and heard the door chime then less than 10mins later this failure. Previously I have had no problems with brakes until then.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 11/07/2011

I have been having several brake issues with my truck within the last year. My latest problem has been the abs engaging at a near stop around 5 mph. This happens several times within a short trip. After researching this over the internet it appears to be a problem with quite a few chevy truck owners. I work for a major auto parts retailer and have asked several mechanics of a fix or solution. There seems to be quite a few diagnosis mentioned. I would just like to fix my truck properly and not have to worry about getting into an accident with my wife and kids in the truck.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 1999 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 10/17/2011

When pulling up to a stop light at a congested intersection, I applied the brakes and the pedal went clear to the floor. After inspection I noticed I had a broken break line. Upon closer inspection it appeared that several were very corroted and appear ready to break at any given time. The truck is not a daily driver and I average less than 8,000 miles a year on it.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

While riding on merrick road,I stepped on the breaks to stop for a red light. The break pad went to the floor and I went thru the red light with no breaks. No cars were in front of me and the cars on the side streets saw me coming and did not go. I was able to put the car in neutral and coast to a stop further down the road. I had the car towed and the mechanic informed me that 2to3 feet of my breakline was corroded and blew open wend I hit the breaks, the rest of my break lines were good.
