1 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

My 02 Avalanche has had all the fuel, em brake, wheel hub while husband was stopping at light when the top caliper bolt came out wedging the caliper between the wheel and bolt this stopped the truck sounded like gun fire and the rest end went 8 ft into the air. Air bag not deployed. Cost days pays and $ new bolt to get back on road, no injury. Plus drvr fr axle pass too. 2nd tranny only 4yrs apart has failed again with my 6 grkids on my 56th b. D. In TX 105 * heat index. It took 4 hours to get home having to stop every 10 min for 20 min because it was overheating. My grkids were heat exhausted as was I. I have had to replace the short column in my steering and I have been jiggling the key to start it for appx 8 years now. 2 fuel pumps in less than a year the last one was stuck for 3 hours at gas station w/3 grkids while my d-n-law was waiting to meet me 2 hours from her home. I think that covers most of the investigations and complaints and not one did chevy pay for. I didn't bother asking my husband has 2500 school hours in auto mechanic repair. My trim is faded and have to oil it to keep it from cracking. The truck still drives excellent but you people are who I'm going to sue if something catastrophic happens in that truck for your laxidazical attitude in enforcing the safety laws. How much kick back do you receive from the car companies to not recall their cars and trucks? don't be shocked it is obvious big money dictates what gets recalled. People die for the greed of others and that is pathetic. If you enforced the safety laws stricter there would not be people dying or badly mft'd vehicles causing wrecks scaring people causing ptss. I think this agency is all about making people think you do something when you dont, at least not until 600million cars have to be recalled. 2 should be enough. 1 a repair 2 not a coincidence. Thank you, ns. All while driving.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2002 chervrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact stated that when applying the brakes the pedal would go to the floor and the vehicle would fail to stop. The brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was previously repaired for this failure however, the failure recurred. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the calipers were corroted. The brake lines were replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Gl.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/13/2013

Put my foot on the brake pedal to stop, pedal went to the floor. I was going uphill. That was probably wen front brake line blew. Had a little brake power left, turned truck around, went one block to my home , plled into my driveway going uphill again when the rear brake ine blew, stoped the truck with the emergency brake. Had to have all break lines replaced due to rust. Forty years servicing aotos never had all or any breakline rust out. Replaced flexiable hoses on brake calipers when the became brittle, but never hard lines, even on a 1971 caddy I had for 25 years. This happened one block from home at the beginning of a planned 100 mile highway trip, at 65mph we probably could have been killed. Someone was watching over us, not gm, they don't even have premade brakelines to fix a known problem!.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/27/2012

Leaving the yankee stadium parking lot in the bronx . Traffic was heavy! the traffic was stop and go . Upon stopping I felt the pedal go to the floor and smelled brake fluid . I pulled over and notice the split in the brake line near the chassie . I then had the vehicle towed home. The truck is a 2004 chevy Avalanche with 60,213 miles on it. The brake line was split on the driver side chassie. It was not the rubber line going to the caliper but the stainless line feed the system.

5 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

All brake hard-lines on my 2002 chevy Avalanche 1500 4wd are extremely corroded and have begun to fail. This was discovered after having one of the brake lines blow-out during an emergency stop, while driving at highway speeds. An empty truck in front of me had braked suddenly due to a missed exit, requiring that I apply full braking instantly. I would have collided with the truck after my brake lines blew, except that I was able to swerve into another lane to avoid the vehicle. Had there been another vehicle next to me, I would have crashed into the decelerating vehicle. All of my brake tubing is corroded, as well as portions of the frame, brake calipers and rear brake rotors and dust shields. This excessive corrosion appears to be the result of substandard components with inadequate corrosion protection. I am currently replacing all corroded brake system components (quoted $3,100).

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/03/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle stopped without warning. Approximately five minutes later, the contact was able to drive and heard a loud pop coming from the rear passenger side. He noticed the rear passenger side brake caliper hanging from the vehicle. The mechanic stated that the brake caliper bolts failed and made the repair. The failure mileage was 69,346 and current mileage was 69,350.

8 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/23/2005

On inspection I was told that I had a lot of corrosion (very rusty)on rear rotors and said I would need to have them resurfaced and service the calipers and replace pads @16,934 actual miles. Very poor braking ability and not wanting to stop as should. Also I kept having problems stopping as should in any distance and came very near in getting into an accident. Had I been going much over the 35 miles I was I would have hit the car that pulled out in front of me for very poor braking. I then took vehicle into another dealership closer to me and was road tested they come up with replacement and that I would need new rotors and pads front because of a lot of corrosion and rust and new rear @ 17,778 actual miles done July 22,2005 for problems spongy brakes as they were, plus the anti-lock did not seem to work right for sometime. Very scared to drive my truck after couple of near accidents. . Resurfacing $110. 00 plus pad kit $59. 95 without taxes, labor 183. 95 and $492. 64 no labor charged with arrangements with other dealership.

9 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/30/2003

Braking distance is very long. Rear brake pads wear out much faster than front pads. As an engineer, I suspect that the antilock braking system is preventing hydraulic pressure from reaching front calipers, and thereby reducing braking effectiveness.
