1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

While attempting to move an unloaded trailer in my yard, I began to backup to the trailer applying the brakes since I was lined up to the trailer, applied the brakes to stop and the brakes went to the floor and the message flashed stating brake issue and lots of bells going off. Incident occurred 8/23/13, had truck towed to garage since it took 10x the distance to try to stop the truck and was not safe to drive. Since the truck is at the garage waiting on parts I do not have actual mileage but has approximately 91k miles. I did not have any other warnings and had new brake pads and rotors installed in the last two months.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

Weak brakes, long stopping distance, no wear on front pads, front pads stuck, taken to dealer 3 times and they say nothing is wrong, I believe I would not be able to stop in time under emergency conditions. The back brakes have been changed 3 times (wore to wear indicator) and the fronts pads and rotors look new (glazed over no friction) this has been ongoing since buying truck brand new in 2003.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/13/2009

I own a 2002 chevy Avalanche, and I am having daily problems with the anti lock braking system activating inappropriately at slow speeds and during slow turns. It started happening occasionally some 2-4 years ago, and has progressed to a daily occurrence. I just had major work done replacing my wheel bearings, rotors, pads, shocks, and struts, but the problem did not go away its still occurring. Chevrolet is away of the defect, but not enough owners have complained or have been injured for them to make it worth their time to fix or contact owners of a certain potential problem.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/23/2008

Poor breaking at 8500 miles. Dealer turned front rotors. Poor breaking again at 9500 miles, dealer replaced rear pads and rotors. Breaking almost caused serious accident, as stopping distance was about 3 times normal. Gm would not cover 2nd repair. Front pads were still good, and truck driven gently about 200 miles per month. I believe inferior steel used in manufacture, and all should be recalled.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 01/26/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500. The contact took the vehicle to the repair shop for routine maintenance. The mechanic noticed that the rotors failed and a report was filed with the manufacturer. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to one of their dealers for a diagnosis and to consider if they would assist with the repair. The current and failure mileages were 33,000. Updated 3/16/09 the front rotors needed to be turned and the rear pads needed to be replaced. Updated 03/19/09.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/14/2005

Chevrolet Avalanche 2002. Contact states the brakes pulsate; the pedal goes to the floor, and does not have braking capability. This does not happen all the time. Neither weather nor road conditions seemed to affect this problem. The vehicle was repaired twice, but problem recurred. Chevrolet replaced the rotors, brake pads as they rusted and or flaked. The consumer believed the problem was with the brake booster and not the rotors.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 11/01/2004

Vehicle has rusted brake rotor. Problems with frame and suspension system components the frame and suspension rusted to the point of metal fatigue especially at the points of weld that hold the suspension to the frame. The rotors were tore up and the pads were ground down.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 02/05/2004

Replaced brakes and rotors front and back 3 times within 1 year.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

Front brakes rattle when going over pot holes and speed bumps at any speed. Rattle goes away when applying the brakes. 2 dealers stated that only oem Chevrolet pads can be used when doing a break job on the front/rear brakes. Shop that did 2 brake jobs in 48000 miles stated that front and rear brake wear was "unusualy high" for manufacturer parts and installed aftermarket "lifetime" brakes. While the shop (thankfully) will retighten the breaks at no cost as needed, I think this is not a good answer to the prpblem.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 03/03/2003

1. Brakes again. . . Noise and vibration. . . 2. Noise from suspension returned vehicle to university motors 1. Front brake rotors corroded with a slight lip, replaced rotors and pads. . . 2. They said couldn't find where noise coming from, may have been from brakes. . . (told them no, this is the same noise since 10790 miles).

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/28/2002

Intermittently at any speed when the brakes are depressed pads will not release. Consumer can feel a dragging or a degree of resistance on the vehicle. Also, rear right inboard disc pad completely failed at 30,000 miles. There is a technical service bulletin concerning this subject.
