1 Battery problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/18/2009

11/18/2009: smoke was coming from the steering column. Spoke with a family member who works as a technician for pep boys. He believed the cause to be the multifunction switch. 11/20/2009: brake lights would not turn off even when the vehicle was turned off. They stayed on until they completely drained my battery. Looked up recalls and found there was a recall on the multifunction switch: NHTSA action number: rq08001. 11/21/2009: called the gm number listed on the NHTSA recall form to ask for assistance with the cost of replacing the part. Was refused assistance and given the following reasons: my particular VIN was not one included in the recall. I didn't purchase my vehicle from a gm dealer. I purchased my vehicle used (there was only one previous owner). My vehicle has over 100,000 miles on it. I don't have a (proven) history of being a loyal gm owner. I don't have my repairs done at a gm dealer. The estimated cost of the multifunction switch itself is $200. That does not include labor. The repair needs to be done immediately as the vehicle is unable to be driven as is.

1. Speedometer acting erratically. 2. Dealer wanted to charge $450 dollars to change speed sensor. I told him he was crazy. They reconnected. Speedometer stared working again. 3. 7 months later speedometer starts acting erratically. I search websites and find that many other owners of 2003 tahoes experience the same thing. Ordered new speed sensor to for self installation. Yet to install. 4. Speedometer starts working again after battery changed. 5. Runs for 5 days working fine then act erratic again. 6. Ready to change. 7. Thought I'd complain first. Think this is a safety issue and something should be done about it.

3 Battery problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/22/2005

I purchased my 1999 Blazer "used" in 5/03, two months later the water pump started leaking horribly, had it replaced. Another month later it completely died on my in the middle of morning rush hour, found out that the fuel pump was completely shot, and the battery was not good. . . At the same time. Early last month I was told that the high pressure oil lines were leaking badly, and also that the idler arm on the front right is bad. Now as I am researching the chevy Blazer more and more, I'm finding out that many consumers are having the same problems in all models. Chevrolet should be held responsible for many of these recurring problems, and something needs to be done!.

4 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/01/2004

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer. While driving 60 mph the vehicle automatically brakes abruptly. This failure occurred seven times. The mechanic stated that the fuel could be the cause of the failure. Another failure was what the mechanics called surging. She stated that the vehicle automatically surged with speed when accelerating from a stop. In addition, the contact experienced an electric shock from the steering wheel that also shocked her feet. The mechanic confirmed this failure. Other failures included replacing the battery when the vehicle was only one year old, cd player, door locks, clock, and interior lighting malfunction, and failure attempting to remove the key from the ignition. The driver's side door almost fell off completely and had to be lifted approximately three inches in order for it to close. The vehicle constantly had fuel failures, completely lost power, and would not release the key from the ignition. The contact reported a frame failure the frame felt as if it was shifting while the vehicle was in motion and gearing to the right. The cause was not due to alignment. The ball joint and axles were replaced. The failure recurred five months after the repair. During the failure she attempted to depress the brake pedal and it began to lock and make grinding noises. She released the steering wheel and removed her foot from the brake pedal. The vehicle spun in circles, and the front end struck the side walls of the highway. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact has statements from the mechanic and stated that the vehicle was a lemon. The current mileage is 20,000, and failure mileage was 6,000.

8 Battery problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/27/2003

Ac delco battery on a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer failed in 21 months - leaking battery acid from one of the side terminals. The exact same failure occurred on this vbehicle on 12/3/01. The same battery on this vehicle also failed about 10 months after purchase but actual cause of failure is unknown. Service mananger at chevy dealership told me that ac delco had sent representaives around to find out why they were having so many failures of this type with these batteries. Said it is related to heat and only happens in southern states where it gets hottest. Ac delco customer service admits nothing of this sort and always blames these failures on overtightening the connections to the terminals. The safety issue is caused by this leaking battery acid and what it will eat into and what kind of problems it will cause. Luckily I was able to id the problem and clean up the acid before more serious problems developed.

10 Battery problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 10/10/2001

This vehicle has had numerous problems. From bad dexcool, witch caused a major overhaul of the cooling system at approx. 37000 or 3 1/2 yr. Yet Chevrolet states the coolant is good for 5yr or 150,000. The front ball joints had to be replaced at approx. 35,000. Just over the 3yr warranty with no help from chevy despite numerous complaints of this failure. Also have had two batteries in the system one after only 3000 miles and the second one is now out at 38000 miles. There is a short in the system that still has not been found. The shift lever handle has been a changed 3 times and still rattle after approx. A month of use. The front drivers side mirror shakes to the point it is hard to see out of when driving. The hood rattles when going over bumps, which can be fixed by adding a solid rubber gasket at the top of hood to keep the hinge stops from bouncing on the frame. The front brakes had to be redone at 28,000.

My 1977 Blazer would not turn over this morning. A check of the battery (original) indicated that the battery acid was leaking from the battery and has corroded the battery holder, the car frame and the brake line. I understand that there has been a recall of other vehicles for leaking battery problems. I believe the problem batteries are also in the 1977 Chevrolet Blazer.
