2 Wiring problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/07/2016

My customer complained of a transmission failure involving, but not limited to a dtc p0785. I asked my customer if the involved vehicle (2000 Chevrolet Blazer) had any dealer or after market accessories installed, customer adamantly replied: no, "bone stock gm. " my customer was not aware that the involved vehicle had a theft deterrent system, manufactured by "karr" and distributed by audiovox with installers nationwide. I have been actively involved with gm dealerships for over forty years and possess a wealth of experience in parts and service experience. I removed the suspect security system and repaired the damaged wiring which resulted in the improper installation. In the past week I have been confronted with four customer complaints which resulted from security systems, aftermarket radios and including aftermarket headlamps. These aftermarket components are the direct cause of system failures involving engine management systems, lights, and numerous electrical failures. I sincerely request immediate and thorough investigation which I remain confident will result in massive recalls of these inferior products.

4 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

I was going through a roundabout and put my right turning signal on and and the vehicle shut off. I was able turn my hazard lights on and pull over. After putting it in park it did start. After that I parked it at a gas station turned it off went to leave and the SUV would not start. I took the steering column cover off and starting knocking on things and I was able to get it started. I later found that it was a wiring harness that failed. It was replaced after that everything ran great.

5 Wiring problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/11/2010

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer. The hazard lights and the brake lights on the body quit working. The brake light over the hatch still worked. The turn signals also were not affected. I checked fuses and light bulbs but both were fine. When I turned on the hazard lights there was a clicking sound coming out of my speaker, like there was a short in the wiring. I'm glad it didn't start a fire. I then did an online search for possible solutions to the problem and came across some recalls on my model describing the same problem. When I called Chevrolet they said that mine was not on any of the recall lists. I had to take it to the local chevy dealer and they had to replace the multifunction switch which is what the recalls were for. I'm not sure why mine was not included either the original recall or the subsequent ones. I do feel that if there were any issues with this model they should have at least sent a warning letter. If someone hadn't told me that the brake lights were out I would have never known.

6 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/10/2007

Driver's side rear view mirror switch wiring caught on fire. My husband had to tear the door panel up to keep my Blazer from burning up. Gm refuses to fix this under the recall because my VIN number does not fall in the sequence of those that were recalled for this defect. My interior dome light caught on fire as well. My husband had to pull off the cover and break the bulb out of the housing to keep the Blazer from burning. Dealer will probably refuse to fix this as well.

7 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/02/2005

Back in 8/04 took car to dealer because Blazer wouldn't start all the time,no idiot lights, just crank. Dealer installed starter relay switch and advise to get new key, not real fix, maybe ignition switch needs to be replace, maybe key will help. Problems continues immediately, try new key, problems the same but in 11/05 it is happening more frequent then on 12/02/05 won't start at all. Tow to dealer, tells me I need new ignition switch, tell ok do it. Next day I go to pick up and car not ready, different problem, we found wiring harness melted. Wiring harness is for wipers and ignition. Back in 02/04 had wiper board replace because of short. Board was replaced because I got a letter from general motors stating bad wiper board, safety issue, replace for free. So dealer has charged me for a starter relay and wiring harness when I think it might have been wiper board issue that gm admits to. Dealer has charged over $600. 00 and I don't know if car will burn in future.

8 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet s10 Blazer. The contact stated that the original computer to the vehicle malfunctioned and had to be replaced. The consumer replaced the computer, but this did not remedy the problem. A certified technician stated that there was gasoline that went into the computer underneath the hood through the wiring harness. The determination of the gasoline leakage has not been decided. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they would file and claim and possibly review it, and referred the consumer to contact NHTSA.

9 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/03/2005

Wiring underneath seats burned entire electrical system of vehicle. Each time the seat was adjusted, the track of the seat cut into the harness.

10 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/15/2004

Smoking from the steering column when turn signal is being used and then the turn signals refuse to turn off. Seems as though there is some kind of a short in the blinker system. If this is not fixed a fire could be in the near future.

11 Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 06/03/2004

Our 2001 Chevrolet blaze caught on fire while parked about 5 minutes after being turned off. The entire engine and front end are scorched. The interior has smoke and water damage. At this time, we have not heard from our insurance adjuster to know the extent - totalled or repairable? the vehicle had been to the dealer one week prior because the rear tailgate wouldn't open. They replaced the actuator and don't believe their work was in any way related to the fire. We purchased the vehicle from the dealer 10 months ago - it had 31,000 miles on it and we only put 5,000 miles on it. I have filed a complaint with gm and believe that they should be responsible and pay out on the loss - not our insurance company.

Failure Date: 04/12/2004

Problems that are not saftey issues: air conditioning doesn't work; door hinge pin needs to be replaced; driver's window slips off track to the outside of the frame, resulting in the back side of the window cracked at least a 1/4 of an inch (was told by friendly Chevrolet in springfield IL that this is a design problem and can not be fixed; called Chevrolet and was told to take it back to dealer and pay them to reevaluate the problem; ) safty issues: ball joints need to be replaced;gas gauge sending unit doesn't work;;differential is leaking and plug connected to this needs to be drilled out and rethreaded to find out how bad the leak is; windshield wiper on driver's side loose and flips off to the left of the windshield in heavy rain and snow; electrical harnass needs to be replaced; engine insolation pealing off under hood; engine light on continually; car stalls intermitantly(first time it happened, was told the engine had overheated); at every start up, engine stays in nuetral (has no excellerator power)then catches after about three minutes); work done: thermostat hoses replaced;distributor replaced;spark plug wires and spark plugs replaced; sepentine belt replaced; part between the axle and the u joints needed to be replaced; oil leak fixed;fuel injector replaced; I have no idea what will go wrong when; it's like playing russian rullett while driving; have rented vehicle twice; will also need to rent vehicle for cross country road trip next week; will not risk driving this car; (incident date: first incident-day estimated).

14 Wiring problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/02/2004

On five separate occasions the vehicle stalled while driving at any speed. The driver was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the problem. The engine shut down without any warning at any speed and while idling in park, the engine restarted. The problem could not be duplicated. The gas filter, ignition wiring, and the fuel pump was replaced but the vehicle was still experiencing the same problem.

15 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 10/11/2003

The turn signal on my Blazer won't stop clicking.

16 Wiring problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 10/05/2003

Gas gauge goes to empty and "low fuel" light comes on at anytime while driving, stays on for several seconds to several minutes and then gauge goes back to correct reading and light goes out. After several weeks of this "service engine soon" light came on. Personal technician reported that this is a common problem in vehicles of all brands and related to, the gas cap. Advised to turn gas cap for at least 3 clicks when done fueling and not to take the cap off the tank when the motor is running. Replaced gas cap and reset the computer, it was fine for 2 weeks. Gauge acting up again, mechanic going to pull tank and check if a lose baffle is interfering with the sending unit. May have to replace sending unit.

17 Wiring problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/10/2003

While driving 30 mph vehicle stalled. The consumer managed to pull over. Had taken vehicle to dealership, but problem had not been resolved. Last spring the vehicle's ignition would cut out while in motion and would sometime drop out of the cruise control. The vehicle stalled in reverse, the engine wiring was replaced, the cruise control would shut off at times, the ignition swtch shorted out. Another address for the consumer 2829, rue sans famille, zip-27607.

18 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/26/2003

On my 1998 Blazer the windshield wipers would work intermittently. My husband would wiggle the wiring harness and they would start up again but only for a short period of time (usually minutes). Chevrolet moran 586-791-1010 said there was no recall and that the problem was the circuit board.

19 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/08/2003

I have a 1998 4x4 Chevrolet Blazer. I bought the vehicle in August of 2002. Since then, the windshield wipers have quit off and on. If the quit, I have to tape the wiring harness where they plug in. It appears that the harness begins to sag after time and pulls the plugs out.

20 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/21/2003

Refuse to comply with multiple recalls.

21 Wiring problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/05/2003

Electrical failure--pulled in to get some gas, after restarting vehicle I had no radio,no dash lights for gear selector or mileage, fuel guage did not work or temp gauge did not work, cruise control did not work, cigarette lighter did not work. Seems to have a pause when transmission shifts sometimes. We need a recall on the electrical system, seems to be a lot of electrical promlems with this vehicle.

22 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/01/2003

Upon returning to my truck on tues evening 4/1/03 (after it was parked for 1 1/2 hrs) I noticed a burning smell when I opened the door. I had about a 4 mile ride home so I started the vehicle and attempted to go home. As I drove, the burning smell became horribly worse even though I could not see any smoke. I decided it was safer to drop it off at my local dealer (patterson Chevrolet in hamilton NJ)since it was on the way. I disconnected the battery as a precaution. The dealer worked on the truck on 4/2. In the process of trying to locate the source of the smell, they had to reconnect the battery. This resulted in the vehicle catching on fire!! fortunately, they had traced the source of the smell to a wire harness under the passenger seat floor board that gets connected to a power seat (which I do not have!) and they had removed the carpeting and seats before the fire started. Upon extinguishing the fire, they removed the damaged wire harness and re-installed the seats & carpeting. This left me with a vehicle that still smells absolutely horrible and a $531 repair bill. If I had parked my truck in my attached garage like I do every night instead of running an errand, the truck most definitely would have caught fire in my garage and could have killed my entire family. I consider this a very near tragedy and the design of this wire harness needs to be looked at immediately before someone actually does get killed. Why didn't a fuse blow that automatically cut power to the shorting wire? is this a recall item? copies of this e-mail are being forwarded to the cpsc and the NHTSA for review as well. There is no way a wire under a floor board should simply catch fire! secondly, there is nothing that I could have done that could have prevented this incident or caused it. The repair expense in this instance should not be the burden of the consumer.

23 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 05/10/2002

The fuel injectors leaked onto the main wiring harness inside the engine. All of the wires melted. Three different mechanics confirmed that this should never have happened and could have caused a fire. I was refered to general motors. Estimated repairs for $1600. 00 include replacement of the wiring harness, fuel injectors, fuel regulator kit, fuel body kit and upper intake gasket. Gm has agreed to pay 50% of the bill. Since the vehicle has only 42,000 miles, has been maintained properly with oil changes and tune ups, I feel that gm is responsible for the total amount.

24 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/23/2001

While traveling approximately 60 mph, vehicle lost all power and had to be towed to dealership. Dealership examined vehicle and determined that following components needed replaced: pcm, six fuel injectors, electrical harness, fuel gauge, and an unknown gasket.

Have notified gm, nothing so far, have ask for a different Blazer, nothing so far, we stopped for a traffic signal and would not start. Than smoke came out from under hood, than 3 feet of flames, I think gm should look at this very close. If the guy hadn't came along with coke it would had burn to a crisp. I am unhappy with gm respond time, they said it would take 10 to 14 days to let me know waht they will to. I don't want that Blazer back!!!!!.
