1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

I have a 1996 chevy Blazer 4wd 4. 3l central port fuel injection. The #4 fuse which is my gauge fuse keeps blowing and when it blows my instrument cluster zeros out and I have no clue what my speed is what my rpms are what my fuel level its, etc. My alternator stops charging and my vehical eventually stalls out due to the battery draining.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/17/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer. Everytime the contact opens the door of the vehicle, the interior lights consistently flicker on and off, especially in cold weather. As a consequence, the battery and alternator continue to fail and need replacing. The dealer stated that the failures were a normal characteristic of the vehicle and no remedy was available. Secondly, he noticed that the fuel gauges were inoperative. When the fuel gauge dial indicates that the fuel level is at half a tank, the fuel warning light illuminates. Thirdly, the contact had to replace the lower ball joints twice because they continued to fail. Lastly, while idling at a stop light, the engine abnormally hesitates, which causes the steering column to vibrate. He took the vehicle back to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure or remedy the failures. The manufacturer was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 39,450.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/29/2007

I bought the 2000 Blazer used just over a year ago and have had nothing but problems. To begin, I replaced the alternator, fuel pump, and virtually all suspension components in the front end with just over 65,000 miles. On vacation during one of the hottest days of the year traveling home the Blazer over heated and left my family and I stranded on a major interstate with no a/c for nearly an hour before getting towed to the worst Chevrolet dealer in the country(richmond, va). We were forced to pay for a new radiator and miscellaneous parts totaling over $600. They said the coolant system was full of rust and the radiator was plugged and could not be reused. Now I'm experiencing the service engine soon that will not go out. After numerous trips to the dealer that started with leaking oil cooler lines, they said that the crank sensor was going bad. I replaced it, still the light stays on. Next they say there is a misfire in cylinder 2, I replace the plugs, wires, rotor, and cap. Still the light stays on. All of these repairs within the first 14 months of owning this junk and it is not anywhere near being paid for. Gm needs to fix these problems. I have spoke with other Blazer owners and they too have experienced nothing but trouble. And the big 3 wonder why they are losing customers and market share. Have they ever heard of quality? looks like I'm going foreign.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/08/2006

Owning this vehicle has been a nightmare and a financial drain. Windshield wipers worked when they chose, replaced wiper motor due to defective part. Upper and lower ball joints all had to be replaced. Wheel bearings had to be replaced. A/c stopped working, had it looked at and recharged and it still doesn't work. Fuel gage didn't work, replaced fuel sensor and sending unit. Rear wiper quit working, replaced rear wiper motor, a few days later it does not work again. Replaced water pump, have replaced abs only to get a recall after the fact with no reimbursement. Wears through brake pads entirely too fast. Replaced alternator and battery twice. Rear hatch does not unlock with key. Headlights are so dim they might as well not exist. Water leaks into interior on drivers side due to a bad seal. Idler arm needs to be replaced. Gas pedal sticks. Now heater fan works sometimes. Reading through the complaints we are all experiencing the same problems and nothing is being done about it. Recalls issued on some vehicles but not all? now I hear gm put a bad intake manifold gasket on these as well as several other cars (1997) and did not issue a recall because it is not a safety matter! this causes antifreeze to leak into the engine and ultimately ends in a repair of at least 1500. 00. After my experience with this vehicle I will be purchasing soon and it most likely will not be gm. Sad since my dad worked for them for 30 years. They should be held accountable for putting a bad product on the market and leaving us to dry.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

Owns a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer zr2 with 68000 miles. The heater blows cold air only. The alternator has been replaced at least twice. I replaced it once, and previous owner replaced it once . Battery has been replaced at least twice. All ball joints replaced at least once to my knowledge. Fuel gauge broke before 50000 miles. Seat handle on passenger's side broken before 50000 miles. Tailgate won't open. Passenger side windshield wiper only moves half the time. That is all that I can recall right now.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/28/2005

I purchased my 2000 Blazer LS 2dr 4x4 with 58000 miles. At speeds around 65-70, it vibrates pretty harshly. I have brand new tires, breaks, and my u-joints and bearings have been inspected and found to be fine. Still have vibration. I have noticed via the internet that this is a known problem with Blazer's and it is just a defect in the way the drivetrain was built. I feel that this problem should be investigated and repaired by gm. Also at 58000 miles I had to replace the alternater. I spoke with the person who I bought the vehicle from and they said that they had replaced it once also, therefore this would be the 3rd alternater in under 60000 miles.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/09/2005

We bought a 1998 chevy Blazer on December 1, 2204, the alternator was bad, the wipers won't work, wiper module, and oil leaks from the oil cooler. Drivers side door leaks air badly. Wipers quit working in the middle of a snow storm, almost causing me to wreck the vehicle.

While driving, the vehicle stalled. Consumer was unable to restart vehicle, and noticed that the lights flashed on and off intermittently. Road side assistance jump started the vehicle. Then, it would start for a moment then stop. The vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the alternator needed replacement due to a corroded wire. 12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/22/2004

Electical-ignition switch when I turn on the key,no dash lights or fuel pump doesn't turn on, so I can not start the vehicle. Now, my rpm goes upto 2000-2500 just to get it to move, and asks like it is 2nd or 3rd gear without changing gears. My headlights were going dim, so I replaced the alternator 2 times. I have heard several people say that the ignition switch is bad. I have tried to find a new one, but nobody can get them-they are on back order-why?.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/15/2004

1996 chev Blazer, we have replaced the alternator twice, the battery 3 times and if it is not started and or driven every day, then we have to jump it ? what can the problem be. It only has 55,000 miles on it. I drove it all week and on Saturday, did not drive it on Sunday and Monday morning I had to get it jumped. This has been going on for sometime ? I have taken it to my local dealer and another mechanic and all they want to do is put another alternator on it. I don't want to pay for a 3rd alternator ????? help !!!!! we have check all interor lights and they have not been left on. What is draining the batery and or alternator ??? we also have the gurgling noise in complaint # 735807. Thanks alice m. Eads.

14 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/21/2004

My 1997 Blazer dies when I am driving it. I can drive it for 2 weeks with no problems and then it will die several times in one day. It doesn't matter how fast I am going. . . I can be going 50 mph or coming to a stop when it dies. The steering and brakes go out and I'm afraid I am going to have an accident. I took it to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong with it and of course it didn't cut off when the mechanic drove it. I have also had to replace the alternator, battery, thermostat, and water pump within the last 6 months.

15 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/27/2003

I purchased my Chevrolet Blazer new at the end of 1999 and it has been in the shop so much I know all 15 of the mechanics by there first name. The battery has been replaced at least 3 times, the alternator has been changed 3 times, the automatic transmission has been replaces, the seat handles have been replaced more than once, the seat belts have been replaced from locking up, the front end has had work done to it and still is not fixed, the rear right speaker does not work, the fuel gauge has been replaced, the gas petal sticks I haft to clean the card at least every month, the heater core has been replaced 3 times and it still does not get hot. I was told that this was caused by the orange antifreeze and was told that chey would not warranty their 5 year antifreeze and the dealer told me that I needed a $500. 00 engine flush that I could do my shelf for $10. 00 but I was then told that the engine was corroded up inside and I would need a new motor and they would not pay for it even under warranty. I called gm complaint line and was told that they new of the problem and they could not offer me any help. The complaint line was a joke and a waste of my time. I will never buy another chevy this is my second vehicle. My first was a s10 and I had the same problems.

16 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 12/01/2003

-- passenger side recliner handle broke -- front brake pads and rotor have had to be replaced twice in the 6yrs of ownership -- windshield wiper works erratically (stopping in the middle of the window) -- the extra heavy duty battery died after 3 yrs of ownership -- the alternator had to be replaced.

17 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/24/2003

Electrical problems and door problems - I bought my Blazer when it was 2 years old with 8300 miles on it. With about 13000 miles on it the vehicle would not stay running and the battery gauge was under 9. I got the vehicle started and drove to the dealership. They replaced the alternator. They would not cover a loaner or rental since I was able to drive the car to the dealership. If I would have had it towed they would have covered a rental. 2 weeks later same problem repeated. Brought it back to dealership and they found the ground wire off the alternator was not properly tightened to the engine block. Again they would not cover a rental car since the car was driveable. That fixed the problem. With about 17000 miles on it and 2 1/2 years old noticed rattling noise coming from drivers side front. Noticed that the drivers side front door was sagging. Brought vehicle to dealership and again they would not pay for a rental or loaner. Problem diagnosed as door needing new bushing and center pins for the hinges. They had to order the parts and I had to bring vehicle back. Again they would not pay for a rental or give me a loaner. I had a 1/2 hour discussion with service director for the dealership and finally gave me a loaner. I called chevy about the problem with the doors and they don't find that out of the ordinary for the vehicle to need new pins and bushings with only 17500 miles on it. The 3/36000 warranty is up in two months and I will be getting rid of the vehicle before the warranty is up before something else breaks on it. I will never buy another gm vehicle!!.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/10/2003

Consumer feel there is a serious defect with the computer system that delivers error codes on his 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. (nar) problems as follows warning lights flashing on, defective alternator, battery, and replaced brake pads.

19 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 11/03/2003

Vehicle stalled when driving and would not re-start. The engine would turn over but there didn't seem to be any spark. Car had fuel and I didn't notice any excessive fuel smell so ruled out flooded engine. Waited 20 minutes but still would not start. Battery was nearly drained after just a few minutes of trying to start the vehicle. Suspect electrical problem (alternator? short?) but haven't been able to diagnose. Latest in a string of electrical problems including: wipers not working consistently or getting stuck, horn relay failing during routine driving, rear speakers weak/intermittent. Overall dissatisfaction with vehicle for price.

20 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 05/21/2003

Bought car brand new. Drivers side mirror consistently vibrates - had replaced twice - dealer would not replace a third time due to bug shield being installed. It still vibrates. June 2001 - door locks went nuts. They would lock and unlock themselves while driving down the road or while parked - with keys in it. March 2003 - blinker switch went crazy. It would not stop clicking - whole dash had to be taken out to replace switch - not a cheap thing! may 2003 - alternator went out and ruined battery. Almost caused a car fire. Transmission fluid leak. Not yet fixed because of unknown cause of problem.

21 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/19/2003

I purchase my 97 Blazer in Dec 2000 with 35000 miles from a local dealer, I believe it was a previous lease vehicle. Within one year I had to replace ball joints but was told that I did not qualify for a recall. In Feb of 2003 I lost my heat and spent close to 2000 dollars replacing first the water pump, then the radiator. After that didn't solve the problem, the dealership told me that the system needed to be flushed with a special machine that would cost another 400 dollars. The system had to be flushed twice to get marginal heat. According to the dealership, the next move is to replace the heater core. Now the wipers stop working and only restart by flipping the switch back and forth. Not real good on the highway in rush hour traffic. I recently had the alternator replaced and the dealership stated that the serpentine belt was old and cracked and needed to be replaced. It actually had less than 5000 miles on it as they replaced it in February when the water pump was done, there was nothing wrong with it. The combination of lousy service from 2 different dealerships, a vehicle that has had nothing but ongoing problems will be enough to stop me from buying another gm product again.

22 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/16/2002

Passenger seat recliner lever broke, 4 wheel drive will not engage (encoder motor) altenator light is on (replace).

23 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/01/2002

Had to replace altenator. Handle of passenger seat fell off in hand, causing riding and sitting difficult. Puts me right up to the air bag. Purchased this vehicle to take my husband to nashville, for his heart transplant visits, needed a reliable vehicle. On the last trip there, 70 mph, in hard rain, no windshield wipers, just quit on the expressway, in heavy traffic. Gas pedal also sticks, and pushes with force, when it releases. (wonder we haven't hit someone). Being on social security,we thought paying extra, for and extended warranty would protect us. (a wasted $1800. 00) the payment takes almost half our income, we can't afford to fix the manufacturers mistakes. By looking at the other complaints, we're not the first with the above problems. Very unhappy consumer. Our first payment on the Blazer was 1-14-02, we began having these problems 6 months later.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/10/2002

The 2000 chevy Blazer is a mechanical and saftey nightmare! this vehicle was purchased brand new/lease and I have had problems from the beginning. The exhaust has never sounded normal; it has a preignition (rattle-like) noise, and I was recently told that the catalytic converter is bad. The alternator failed at approximately 12000 miles. The hazard lights failed in April 2002, and the brake lights failed shortly after. The steering problems include: clunking when turning to the left, a shift in the front end (feels like the front pass. Side steering components are loose). The vehicle is almost impossible to control on freeway due to loose steering and inability to control on transitioning/uneven pavement. The dealer has replaced front pass-side tierod and stabilizer, and the steering wheel now has a 12-15degree, off-center, right list. Cutter cheverolet of hawaii is now having us try to reproduce the problem(s), and trying everything they can to not accept that the vehicle is, in fact, a "lemon"! what does it take to prove that a vehicle is just not a good vehicle; does my family have to get injured or die to prove there is a problem! we are a "gm-family"(entitled to gm family discounts), and this is how we get treated. . . No acceptence of responsibility or pride/honesty in their product. I will never buy another gm product; ever! the dealership, gm factory, and gmac should rightfully accept responsibility and take the vehicle back. I have better things to pay $384. 00 per month! japanese atomotive industry. . . Here we come! ~ don schrader, pearl harbor, hawaii.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/28/2002

Primary: electrical failures! ignition switch; multiple electrical failures with interior lights for which no one can figure out what is happening; check engine light has come on since I purchased the vehicle even after dealer worked on it; vehicle stalling out while driving almost caused accident; alternator replacement; multiple batteries -drain for unidentified reason; fuel injection system and pump; unexplained noises in the front end; front ball joints loose for which the dealership would not replace when I bought the vehicle because they said it was within factory limits even though my mechanic said that they were not; at this point I have become afraid to drive the vehicle due to the electrical problems and stalling but feel that I have no choice because the costs to maintain the vehicle is that of the payments and sometimes more and I cannot afford the required money down to replace it. Bottom line -I am getting rid of it as soon as I can since I have spoken to other owners who have had similar recurrent problems. I need a reliable vehicle. This is not one and from what I have seen and dealt with -1997 chevy Blazers are not. The rule out there is you either have a good one or a bad one and I cannot afford on many fronts the one I have. At least chevy should own up to the electrical problems particularly since it is tied to a moving vehicle stalling out and putting peoples lives at risk. I will not own another chevy once I can get rid of this one. The incident date refers to the period starting with the electrical equipment failures.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 10/10/2001

10/10/2001 replaced the alternator - it was over charged and went bad! noticed several complaints about this too! 12/20/2001 windshield wipers stopped working in heavy rain. Then when motor turned off and on again they worked, this has been happening on and off since that time, but today 06/26/2004 they just stopped all together - nothing helped. Had to have the same soldering repair done as in the 1995 -1997 Chevrolet s-10 / Blazers - which I might add was a recall. The same parts are used in most 1998's as well. The recall needs to include all of the components, not just a few of them! also I have had several dash parts break loose - like the hatch door release / back wiper control is just sitting there - nothing holding it in. The passenger side seat recliner handle fell off - had it put back on at dealer - then it broke off. (makes being a passenger in my Blazer very uncomfortable) I have noticed several complaints about this too! the drivers outside door handle - one of the screws that holds it in place is not able to put back due to plastic is stripped- so the door handle wabbles. The heat from the sun has bowed up the front windsheild vent until it is cracked and broken now too. I have always driven Chevrolet's - but here latley with all of the plastic they are using - I am beginning to wonder if my money wouldn't be better spent in another make of vehicle. I love the design and ect. Of the Blazer - but the plastic is not holding up - this is some expensive plastic to be made so cheap. If you shut the doors hard at all the whole top of the arm rest pops up and has to be popped back in place.

32 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/24/2000

The alternator failure happened slowly enough that I could get off the road before it the vehicle died completely. Had it failed faster, well, there's no telling. I was doing 45 mph in tourist traffic when the lights began to dim. As for the battery, I knew it was dead, but the corrosion to the frame comes thanks to a sharp eyed mechanic. Surface corrosion is apparent, and I shall have to pull the tire, sand, prime, and paint the frame to stem the corrosion. I'm wondering how many other people have serious battery acid leaks causing frame corrosion, and how many of them will fail with catastrophic result in the future. Further on the alternator, I have anecdotal information that a number of gm trucks and suvs had alternators that failed just over the 40,000 mile mark. I learned this when I went to buy a new one, and no one had one because of a recent demand on them. The demand is strong again this summer here, I'm told. Is gm selling unsafe vehicles? need more info? please email. Please let me know if you need the VIN. Thank you. Gerry bishop, niceville florida.

33 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/10/1999

The inside of the radiator erupted and caused the transmission fluid and antifreeze to mix. This caused water to flow in the transmission. The radiator, resevoir and the transmission had to be replaced. The alternator had to be replaced due to this failure. I was traveling on I-95 when this incident happened with no warning. There must be a defect in the raditor to erupt inside, please investigate, if requested, I can provide repair bills.

34 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Intermittently vehicle stalls and dies, giving the driver no warning. Dealer has replaced the alternator/battery and fuel pump and the problem still exists.

35 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/15/1999

Car towed in three times last summer 6/28/ car stalled, electrical system problems, replaced battery, alternator,7 /27 reprogrammed pcm, 9/16 brakes failed replaced master cylinder. We've had other problems with this car from the start. Chevy can't figure out why the car engine started smoking and eventually caught on fire. Car has always been maintained, we have extended 8 year warranty. It was very dangerous, my daughter had taken the car just 1/2 mile to the shopping center and back when it started smoking. The car is totalled, she was not hurt and a neighbor was helpful by called the fire department. This was exceedingly dangerous.
