3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/26/2001

Ever since I bought this vehicle I have had nothing but trouble with it. Since I have bought it in July it has been in the shop for approx. 10 times. The first day I brought it home it would not go into reverse. Needless to say it already has a new transmission. I have also had problems with the rear middle seat belt locking up and making it impossible to wear. I have brougt this problem up to the dealer several times and they have even replaced all of the seat belts, but it still persists. I have now been told that it is because of infant seats, however how can this vehicle be suited for five passengers when in reality it can only hold four. Another problem I have had with this vehicle is the heater blower failed to work. I brought my vehicle back to the shop and they replaced it. I have also had problems with the 4wd system switching between 2hi. The dealer has installed a new switch as well, so the problem has been solved. One of my newest concerns is randomly when I start the vehicle in the morning the engine revs up really loud. The loud noise gets even louder when you accelerate the vehicle. When bringing in this problem to the shop they said that it is the fan clutch and that it is normal. I find this hard to believe. People that hear the noise are in disbelief that a new vehicle can make such a noise. I also am having a concern with squeaky breaks in the front end. The shop states that semimetallic brakes will make some noise at times. In all of the cars I have owned I would have never thought that a 2002 would have squeaky brakes and that it would be normal and unable to fix. I am very concerned about this vehicle and I question how reliable and safe we are driving it. Gm will not help me in replacing this vehicle so I guess my next step is the attorney general.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 08/23/2001

The belt tensioner on my '96 Blazer started to fall apart. I caught it because the belt started squeeling loudly and I was able to reach the dealer before it completely fell off. If it had fallen off, the alternator, water pump, fan and power brakes would have failed immediately. I am writing because I personally know 3 other people who have had this same problem. My friend had this problem on a '96 Chevrolet silverado. It was repaired under warranty at the time. My father has a '98 Blazer and he just had the same problem. It is being fixed under warranty. My father's CO-worker has a '98 Blazer. He had to have the belt tensioner and serpentine belt replaced 3 times already. The first 2 times it was replaced under warranty. The third time the warranty was up but the dealer fixed it because of the on-going problem. It seems that the belt tensioner design could be defective. As I said at the beginning, this should be considered a safety problem. When the tensioner brakes, you instantly lose power to all engine accesories being turned by the serpintine belt.
