The contacts daughter rented a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, after driving over a small imperfection in the roadway, there was an abnormal scraping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic by the rental company, and the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact’s daughter was not provided the diagnostic results. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 29,000.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 05/30/2006

The electric smog pump on my 2001 chevy Blazer had failed when pump filled with water and shorted out. This is caused due to the short intake hose to the pump. This is an apparent known issue with gm, but they will not replace the pump. This also causes the vehicle to fail emissions testing. Gm wanted $400 for the pump + labor to repair the issue. Once the part became available for 3rd party vendors, we were able to replace the pump ourselves, added a longer intake hose, and the vehicle now runs correctly. I feel that since gm is aware of this issue and it adversely effects the emission control of the vehicle, the repair should be gm's responsibility.

8 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 07/29/2000

On 2/9/00, ruck was taken to james martin Chevrolet-Buick dealership due to emission problems. The truck was not repaired until 3/7/00 because it was "difficult" to determine where the evaporation leak was coming from. Less than 6,000 miles later, another emission problem happened on July 29th. I was driving on the expressway when I started to smell gas fumes. It brought me to the point of chocking and I had to get off the expressway and get out of the truck to breathe. The problem was fixed on 7/31/00, however, I still feel that a recall should be issued on the chevy Blazer 1998 edition. The botton of my invoice states that further diagnosis will be done once the driver notices any other problems. This concerns me because each time, the emission problems is becoming worse than the last one.

The tranission failed as well as the sensor module, gas gauge failed, water pump failed, cracks in the exhaust system, windshield fluid leaked into the vehicle when rear washer was activated, bad battery which was never replaced (trying to sell me a new one all the time), constant resurfacing of front rotors due to unevean wear and a defective gas gasket to the evaporative system. I can supply exact mileage and dates of repair. If I didn't have an extended warranty, I would have taken Chevrolet to court by now for a new vehicle. I don't think my next vehicle will be a gm.
