4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

I have the 2010 Camaro v6, with only 67,700 miles. Like too many others, the check engine light came on and it gave a p0008 error code for premature timing chain wear. Why hasn't gm issued a recall for the Camaro with this engine when they've issued a recall for nearly all other vehicles with this engine?!? I should not be facing an estimate of over $2,000 to replace the timing chain with only 67,200 miles!.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 01/21/2019

Check engine light continuously comes on. It has been checked several times and we have been told it is a faulty sensor dealing with the gas cap. We were told the sensor was recalled several years ago but I didn't see any recalls on my vehicle. Mechanic says that because of where the sensor is the entire gas tank, etc has be a dropped and is a major job/cost to repair. My auto start will not work because the check engine light will not shut off.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

Vehicle has had a code of p008 intermittently then permanently since 68000 miles, it is now at 99,500 miles. The code relates to timing chain stretching which is causing engine misfire. Same problem with identical engine has been addressed in form of warranty extension for several vehicles, including Cadillac cts, extending warranty to 10 years or 120k miles. This has not been done for the Camaro for reasons which elude me. Occasional problems with stalling and reduced power (especially in situations requiring the additional power), as well as engine "roughness" certainly cause safety concerns for me. In addition, the problem with the passenger safety bag seat pad sensor has been ongoing and is also not recalled, although the system keeps passenger airbag off in the presence of a passenger due to a short in the pad, also well-documented and clearly a safety hazard. The interior lighting system is simply a nuisance and not a safety concern at this time. The cost of repairs is staggering, and I've never seen an instance where a timing chain needed to be replaced during the expected operating period of a vehicle with normal use. Clearly it is a design flaw which needs to be addressed, as it has been with other vehicles utilizing this engine. The number of instances which go unreported and simply get repaired at the owner's expense is also quite significant, according to the research I have done. Please note that this problem started intermittently in late 2016 and has become a continual problem as of this writing. The check engine light is always on at this point, with the p008 code.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 11/22/2016

Engine light illuminated with p0008 obd-ii trouble code: engine positions system performance bank 1. Twice was told by dealership it was an oil issue even though no oil change alerts came on and check engine light kept coming back after service (occasionally intermittent). Mpg was negatively impacted during regular operation and occasional rough idling at stoplights. At 77,000 miles (and just past the 7 years covered by extended warranty), was finally told this was a timing chain issue and $1,700 to fix (of course not covered). Research on stretched timing chain from p0008 error for Camaros indicated many others with issue and extended warranty up to 10 years/120,000 miles issued by gm for other vehicle models using same engine. Bulletin/warranty should be extended to affected 2010 Camaros.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 11/21/2016

Check engine light came on. Car was in motion. Took to dealer for diagnosis: need to replace the timing chain on a car with 44000 miles on it. Car usually sits in winter. All maintenance has been performed by the dealer. Ordered the car and purchased it to keep it. Always hand washed. It is the v-6 engine and I understand that they will only repair this engine on cadillacs & some Saturn models. It is the same engine used in various vehicles. I feel that this is very premature. I have never had to replace a timing chain. I understand that the gears are plastic and the chain is metal. I do not feel that this should be a cost to me as this is designed to fail. Im sure I am not the only one this has happened to.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 11/08/2016

Car ignition keeps hanging up and will not release key upon shut off. Traveling between states, a burning smell began to come through the vents, the car shut off without warning traveling 70 mph on the highway, remaining lit and appearing fully functioning. It struck me as very familiar to the ignition issue I have had for the way the car shut off and began to act. Upon stop and actually switching off, car would try to crank, but did not catch. After towing to dealership, car cranked and drove as usual. Check engine light indicated low fuel pressure, after diagnostics for the third time the dealership is still insisting nothing is wrong with this car. Key ring has a total of 3 keys and lightweight, definitely not weighing down the ignition. This is definitely computer related, electrical and affecting the mechanical ability of the car as well as the safety of the driver. I see numerous complaints about this issue online, no recalls have been found and Chevrolet is not correcting this despite numerous car fires reported and accidents probably caused.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 10/27/2016

Timing chain. Took car to dealership to diagnose check engine light. Revealed code p0008 which was later found to be an issue with a stretched timing chain. Vehicle had just over 50,000 miles and even the dealer admitted it should not have had this issue. After research, discovered that the same engine used in the 2010 llt Camaro was used in other gm vehicles---but those vehicles had power train warranties extended to 10 year/120,000 miles to help cover this potential issue. This was not done for the Camaro, so I was forced to pay nearly $1400 to repair my car since the warranty had expired. Why was the warranty not extended on the Camaro which uses the same engine as those other gm vehicles??.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 08/10/2016

Check engine light on but the Chevrolet engineers could not determine the meaning of the code. They said that "for the 2015 & 2016, they placed a new code which could mean a leak in between the engine and exhaust. They kept my car for more than a week but could not determine what's going on and nobody, including the corporate engineers could fix it. I demanded a vehicle replacement bec. It's just a 2000 mile car and I only had it since may2016. But gm corporate kept their eyes shut to my plight and just told me to take home my car. They said that theu would call me if they find out the meaning of the code.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 04/16/2016

This has been an ongoing issue since 41,000 miles. (Feb 2015) after driving a few miles in a day, you can feel a change in the vehicle drive and the rpms reduce to under "2" and then down to "1", the car then displays the "!" "reduced engine power" warning. 3 emergency lights come on and the check engine light comes on. When safe, I pull over and turn the emergency lights on, turn the car off, wait a few minutes and then restart the car. For a few seconds the "stabiltrak" warning light comes on. The car then drives sluggish and will not go over a 40 to 60 miles speed. This continues to go on every 3 to 5 miles. We have been taking the car to dealer and they have replaced a connector, wiring harness and a ecm module. After a few miles of driving the same situation occurs. This last time when I safely pulled over to a side street and turned on the emergency flashers in the early morning hours a car almost rear-ended my vehicle. The reduced speed while driving on the freeway is causing a frightening driving experience because other drivers do not realize that my car is experiencing engine reduced speeds that I have no control of and I cannot exit the freeway until an exit ramp is available. I do not feel safe pulling off to the side of the freeway due to the re-entering onto the freeway with disrespectful drivers who cause life threatening issues. Researching the issue on line it seems there are too many with the same issues. I did read that the onstar system may be causing the conflict??? this issue has become very time consuming and expensive with the missing of work. How do we get this corrected. It started at 41,000 miles and we now have 91,000 miles. We do have a premium extended warranty to 125,000 miles. The warranty company said that general motors should / must correct this issue and it is a known issue.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 01/21/2016

I have had check engine light on in the vehicle several times, codes p0008 and p0017 timing chain. The vehicle was taken to several chevy dealerships for diagnosis per gm and chevy, both times they stated the timing chain should be replaced. The first time the Camaro was still under warranty the carmaro lost power and began to shake, I pulled over put the car in park and noticed a weird idle and shake. I was told after contacting gm and chevy that they are aware of the problem and need has to meet a certain number of complaints before they can include the 2010-14 Camaro into the timing chain recall and extended warranty for 10 years and 100,000 miles. As they have for other vehicles with the same timing chain problem. This is not right, my vehicle has being parked for 1 year since this started.

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

The check engine light illuminated. Read the code and it comes up p008. This code is for the timing chain. In doing research on this issue there seems to be numerous complaints regarding this problem. Found out that gm has extended the warranty for this engine issue where it is used in other gm vehicles but not for the Camaro. I don't understand why the Camaro isn't included when it has the same engine as the other gm vehicles. These other vehicle warranties are extended under customer satisfaction program 10287. The cel would come on and then go off over the course of a couple weeks. Finally it just stayed on.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

When I first bought the car my mom and dad took it around the block and said that it turned off but failed to mention it because of cars having features that turn car off while at a hault. I've had the car for about 6 months and it is hardly driven. 3 days of the week, and is barely at 5000 miles. Still technically brand new. One day while coming home from work my boyfriend and I noticed the car to be struggling a little power wise. When we came to a stop at a light we made a right turn and the car felt like it was going to stall. Barely turning into our apartment it finally turned off. Took a couple of tries but car finally turned on for about 10 seconds and then turned off again. Finally being able to park the car, we tried starting it after letting it sit for couple minutes and it did not want to start. We drove car to nearby dealer left it overnight and the next day they said about 11 codes were coming up. After that car finally turned on acted normal for a bit so we were given car back. Afterwards check engine light came on and stayed on. Due to not being able to be off work we were going to take car to original dealer we bought it from to get checked out. Halfway into the week the car then stalled again luckily as we turned into work. Messages came up such as "service stability and traction control" as long as "engine power reduced". We were able to park it and had onstar run a diagnostics for it and were told that several codes popped with tranny, stability and traction control, abs breaks, engine power etc were all affected at the time. We took it to dealer couple hours later and car was checked out and "fixed" couple days later. Turned out to be a short in one of the wires. To think a simple wire defect can affect the car to that extent is scary! and I'm thankful the faultiness didn't occur in injury or death.

22 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle exhibited a reduction in engine power and stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the six-rod bearing had spun which needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact mentioned that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that all four oxygen sensors failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,800 and the current mileage was 10,200.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

I got in, I started my car at 5:30am, all ways normal. I put it in reverse got out of my driveway, then put it in drive and the car started shaking. I pressed the gas a little and I seamed like the car wanted to turn off and the gear gauge was going up and down and still shaking. I stopped put it in park, turned off the car, waited for a few minutes, then turned the car back on, the car was still shaking, then the check engine light came on. I had to drive to work. It was about 18 minutes away, the whole way there the car was still shaking, check engine light was still on, and it felt like the car didnt have any muscle to it and wanted to die while driving.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 03/29/2014

This Camaro has been in our family since August 2011, as a daily driver for my wife, purchased from a gm certified used dealer. Leaving the parking lot from a trip to walmart today, not even going 10mph, the vehicle begins to slow down stating "engine power is reduced", with both the check engine light on and the stability trac light on. We were able to limp home under 40mph. Nothing is noticeably wrong, but now the car runs on a rough idle, it's sitting stationary for now. Doing research, I have found this is a common problem with ls3's, mostly having to do with the throttle body itself or accompanying sensors. I'm going to change to throttle body and go from there. My major concern is that why isn't this problem a recall worthy issue. It seems to be a major problem with 2010 Camaro's, and many other gm vehicles of the same year with a v8 engine not necessarily the ls3. Why does it take loss of life for gm to fix a major consistent problem. I am really losing faith in this company and it's products. Our 2010 Camaro ss should not be the vehicle sitting in our driveway broken down over a 2001 Camaro ss and a 2002 s10 truck. What is happening to the quality of gm vehicles these days? if they stand by their product, then they need own up to its shortcomings.

25 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 01/30/2014

While traveling 60 mph my car started shaking violently and the check engine light came on. I safely pulled to the side of the road. Checked the engine could physically see anything wrong with it. I checked the oil and the dipstick was almost dry. My oil change was overdue by 3000 miles. Last oil changed I used full synthetic oil thinking I could go a little further between oil changes. Never received a oil pressure indicator light on my display. I would have thought that I should have received some type of indication that my oil pressure or oil level was low. Now left with the high cost of replacing the engine.

26 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 05/05/2011

While driving my 2011 Camaro rs the engine warning light came on then the power train disengaged momentarily all warning lights and esc failed. The auto transmision would not shift out of 2nd or 3rd gear and the steering became unstable. Warning bells and door locks went off. This car is unsafe to drive and has been returned to the dealer. Despite three times to repair the esc, the car continues to fail.

27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Camaro

Failure Date: 06/19/2008

The vehicles check engine light came on. The catalytic converter failed per the diagnostic check at the dealership. The catalytic converter is covered by special 10 year or 120,000 mile warranty.
