2 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

Yesterday was on way home from work and car just died on city street with no warning. I somehow managed to get the car to a parking lot and out of traffic. I tried to start the car and no the car wont start back up so I had to have the car towed home. Last week I lost power steering while driving on a rural road and then car started acting like it was going to die. I stopped and when I stopped the car jerked into a forward position. I shut the car off and restarted the car and the transmission was shifting really hard going from 1st to 2nd gear when getting ready to slow down it seemed like the car was a manual and I had it in 5th gear because it was seeming like it was going to stall out because the transmission was idling in the wrong gear as I was slowing down. Sometime the key will get stuck in the ignition and I have the steering column cover off so I can push the white button to release the key. When the keys are not in the ignition the speedometer and the rpm and everything electrical in the car jumps back and forth like the car was on.

3 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/17/2019

Takata recall the car will randomly lose power steering. The power steering message will display on the dash and the steering wheel will lock up. You will then hear a clicking sound as if the transmission is going bad. The car will jerk forward really hard and as you bring the car to a stop, the car will shake and you will hear all kinds of rattling. The gauges on the dash will all jump up & down! and you have no idea of the speed you're going. The check engine light will come on as well as the car with the lock light. Sometimes the steering wheel will unlock itself but you will also have all of the other symptoms. As I stated earlier it happens randomly so I have to constantly pull over to avoid an accident! if you attempt to keep driving it there's a chance the car will completely shut off and you will lose control of the gas pedal and brake pedal. I contacted general motors and they stated the car had already been fixed and I got it after the warranty so it's all in my hands. Why does the customer have to literally pay for the mistakes of the company I've literally read thousands of reviews of people having these same issues. It's an extremely dangerous car!! and we need to be compensated. This happens when the car is stationary, in motion, on the street, and on the highway.

The gauges would suddenly start fluctuating and the can would lose all power steering and the transmission acted as if it didn't want to shift. I took car to chevy dealership in morehead city n. C. And they kept the car for two weeks because they could not reproduce symptoms. I was charged for inspecting car, but car was not fixed. I contacted chevys maini headquarters and explained the situation. I informed represent I've that I did not feel safe with my daughter driving the car. She advised me not to drive the car. Problem is is that I still am making payments and insurance on vehicle my daughter ended up buying another car since then , do to this safety issue. I now have car, which I have had to drive for the last month and it is doing the same thing, yet more frequently. I again took car to dealership and he quickly diagnosed the car with having a bad battery. $200 later, I am now hopeful the car is finally fixed after years of dealing with it. No , I was wrong again. I am complete dissappointed in chevy for making such a worthless piece of junk and then not having the integrity to owe up to it's fault in developing a substaindured product. In the process of trying to find a solution or repair for this, I have come across hundreds if not thousands of complaints about the same issue. Is someone going to have to be killed before chevy owns up to its mistake and make it right for consumers. I am in the market for a new car, but after this experience I will not be buying a chevy product. I truly hope that the issue at hand will bring attention to the defects chevy is allowing. This is not just a car problem, this is peoples lives we are talking about.

28 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/21/2014

On 6/22/14, I was coming home from philadelphia and while on the brunswick highway, my 2005 chevy Cobalt's dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and I lost my power steering, traction control, brakes, abs, engine lock, door locks were clicking on and off and I had to pull over 4 times off the highway. My odometer didn't work either. This also made my transmission jerk and slip. It was so bad that when it was switching gears, it was making my entire car shake. I was afraid for my life. I nearly crashed into a semi-truck because my brakes and power steering didn't work. Also, I couldn't go below 65mph on the highway because the transmission was slipping. I made it home but I was still shocked and scared. The next day I took it to the dealership to get it looked at. I thought it was the recall problem with the ignition but they couldn't find what the main cause was. They said it wasn't ignition but some sort of computer glitch. All they did was reset the computer and recommended me to buy anew car battery. I got the new battery and every was fine. On 7/714, the same issue happened again but worse. It happened while my car was parked and again the dashboard lit up. Everything went off again, I lost my power steering, traction control, brakes, abs, engine lock, door locks were clicking on and off. It took me 6 times restarting the car for the dashboard to be cleared, and then 5 minutes again, the car chimed, and I lost my power steering, traction control, abs and the odometer didn't work again. I nearly crashed again too. I took it again to the the dealership. On 7/8/14, they told me they replaced the recalled ignition switch, but they still couldn't find the root of the cause of the major electrical issue in my car. They did say my car isn't safe to drive on the road. They asked me to leave it for a couple of days to see if they can find the problem.

29 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

On June 18, 2014 while driving 45 miles per hour I suddenly lost power steering in the vehicle and the engine kept cutting out like it was going to shut off. I pulled into a store parking lot and the shifter would not work properly when trying to get it into park. Power steering light, engine light and several other lights appeared on my dashboard. . I called the dealership on June 18, 2014 to notify them of my power steering going out and the other issues described above. They told me parts were still not available. I did receive a call back that they did in fact have the part and to bring in the vehicle on June 19, 2014. My husband drove the vehicle 35 miles to the dealership with no power steering, the engine wanted to die every time he came to a stop and acted erratically the whole drive there. According to the invoice received the dealership mileage on my vehicle was 114, 340 and they performed recall 10023 v220 removed and replaced power steering motor with motor kit 1 19257875 motor kit. On June 20, 2014 the car was driven 320 miles. On June 21, 2014 I I had no power steering. On June 23, 2014 I had to have a wrecker service tow my vehicle back to the dealership. . On July 18, 2014 I picked up my vehicle. According to the invoice received the dealer performed recall 13454 (f-cylinder kit ), performed recall 14113 (removed and replace ignition cylinder and programmed 2 new keys per recall 14113). The mileage they say was on my vehicle on this invoice dated 7/18/14 was 114, 292. Don't know how my mileage went backwards??? on July 28, 2014 driving to work at 4:30 am going 60 mph my power steering light comes on, the engine is cutting out, the dashboard lights up, the speedometer needle is flickering uncontrollably and I have no where to pull over. This is the 3rd time power steering problem due to gm recall. Help!!!.

30 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

Driving down a residential road at less than 30 miles per hour. All of a sudden without any warning, everything went haywire: I got a low fuel warning even though the tank was half-full, myriad warning lights flashed, the tachometer needle moved erratically, I lost power steering, and the automatic transmission started shifting very roughly. I pulled over and stopped the car, removed and reinserted the key, and restarted the car. The problem persisted. All without the car key attached to a key chain - gm's proposed solution until new parts can be installed for the recall. I drove the car a half-mile back to my home and shut it off. I restarted the car several minutes later and the problem was gone - the only lingering symptom was a check engine light. I drove it to the dealership that day. As yet (2 days later), they have been unable to recreate the problem. They say they're still unsure whether it's related to the recall. I registered my car for the recall over 3 weeks ago but the dealership hasn't received the replacement part yet. My latest information is they are looking for a spare replacement part because they think it will take another three weeks before the part for my car arrives (that's a 6-week wait-list for a replacement part known to cause fatal accidents).

32 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

I am very disappointed in gm's handling of the February 10 and April 10, 2014 recalls of 2008 Chevrolet Cobalts. I am a 2008 Cobalt owner, and I still have not received a letter nor has my uncle who is the registered owner. I bought the vehicle used but do not feel that is an adequate excuse for not being notified of this recall. I was not able to order the designated parts for repair until 3 days ago, as the dealership I contacted in regards to the problem did not get back to me. I do not feel that this recall is a situation to make light of. People are dying from this deficiency in the vehicle, and I was never even informed of the possibility of my air bags not deploying. I do not feel safe driving my car and I do not feel secure knowing that without my taking the initiative to investigate this problem, I would never have known that my car had been recalled. I also am not satisfied with the listing on the official gm letter on the NHTSA website that all ignition switches will be replaced, when the posted recall on cars. Com from gm states a problem with the ignition cylinder as well. I also feel that my air bags, steering and entire electrical system should be tested and replaced if there is even the slightest chance that they have be ineffective. I lose power steering if my ignition switch fails, in addition to my air bags failing, further compromising my safety. I am very concerned about these defects on my vehicle, as I have no other form of transportation back and forth to work etc. , and the length of time it is taking for it to be repaired. The dealership that ordered the parts for me told me it would be 6 weeks before the parts arrived, at which point I could make my appointment which may mean additional waiting. I, as a consumer, feel slighted and certainly disregarded. I will not recommend any gm sedan of this nature to anyone.

33 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

As I was driving down the road at 57mph the power steering sign came on and a noise then I sudden lost power steering. I slowed down and pulled over and cut off. I then cut the car back on and the power steering light went off. Then I drove on and then the power steering went back out. I contacted the dealership were I got it from and they said it was nothing that they could do. They told me to contact GMC dealer company. GMC told me they could fix it but I would have to pay out my pocket.

34 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

I have received (both) recall work done on my 05 Cobalt, and yesterday I was driving on the highway at 55-60mph for the first time since I got my car back last Friday. I lost power steering and my car would no longer shift to increase its speed. It felt like I was in neutral gear as the rpms were in the 5000-6000 range yet I was still at a speed of apprx 55mph, as I attempted to pull over to the shoulder I recognized I did not have power steering, and the light on my dash quickly went off and then came back, along with a check engine light. After finding out what the engine codes were via autozone, I was told my transmission control module had failed, hence why my transmission would not engage into third gear. After driving the car around more that afternoon, it continued to happen at the high speed levels, and again the power steering failed. I brought it up to the chevy dealership that performed the work, yet the service department was closed at 7pm. The sale guy tried to convince me that this recall would not affect anything with the transmission, yet multiple mechanics have told me that if the new piece was not programmed properly with my ecm, then its possible that this is affecting my vehicle. I am going to try and bring my car back in tonight after work, or hopefully tomorrow. I have already call general motors and reported the same incident, because there is a rumor going online that the new ignition switch may have a "short" in it. But I do not want to confirm that.
