I bought this 2006 checy Cobalt 2 months ago at clear choice auto sales dealership in carlisle and I told them about the steering was rough when I was turning to the right but easier to turn to the left when I took if for a test drive. They took it in there shop and said it was the tire pressure. They then added air to the passengers side front tire then and I noticed that it still was the same when I drive it home. I then found out that I have the 2 recalls for the key and ignition switch so I took it to lawerance Chevrolet and had them replace them and I also had them check on the problem I was having. They said that it was the power steering module column that was the issue but it was going to cost a hole loy of money to replace it. I didnt have the money to get it replace but I knew that there was a recall for the Cobalts steering. I ask them if it was still covered under recall and they said it was already canceled. Idk what to do I really dont want to spend money for this issue when its a recall already and I just bought the call for $5,500. I my steering wheel also shakes when im driving on the highway and when I hit the brakes.

While driving to work, steering wheel had been shaking (55mph). Getting off the belt line, traffic came to a sudden stop. I braked, but the car continued to shake and didn't brake. Had to pull to the side to avoid hitting the car in front of me. Car would not accelerate when traffic started up, and I had to turn the ignition off and restart. Car shook badly for a few seconds, then seemed fine. A few days later, driving into my parking lot (10mph) the car's brakes locked up for no reason and I barely got it into a parking space. Took it in to the dealership the car was purchased at and was told the rotors, brakes, and calipers would need to be replaced. Had another mechanic look at it and had the brakes and rotors replaced. Car drove fine. Six weeks later, driving on the highway (60 mph), slowed down to turn onto another road, and brakes were out. Had another mechanic look at the car, brakes and rotors are worn down again, as well as calipers and brake line. Road conditions were clear at the time of each incident.
The car is hard to steer sometimes. Steering wheel shakes and rattles. Seems to be coming from the steering column or electrical steering assist.

I was driving to work, after having the used car for 3 months, when I noticed my steering wheel shaking while I was driving at 60mph. The faster I go,the louder this problem gets. I just purchased 4 new tires in June 2013,had them mounted, balanced and aligned and I still have this shaking problem. When I had a previous problem (with my fuel pump leaking) I noticed many other similar complaints about this shaking (around may 2013) online. I took a trip to michigan for a funeral and had to go back roads instead of interstate due to this severe shaking. Have there been any other complaints sent in? will this become a recall issue as well? please advice.

When going down a hill or coming to a stop the whole steering wheel shakes. Took it to a garage and he said that the u joint in the steering column is bad and is very dangerous to drive, could lose contol of the car. My daughter drives this car, but not anymore. Garage says he has had alot of Cobalt's with this issue. There should be a recall on this, or does someone have to die first?.
Rattling bumping noise under car, drivers side by tire, steering wheel shakes when driving speed limit and increases with slowing down. Dealer identified problem as intermediate steering shaft and is not covered under warranty on gm vehicles.
Today is Aug 16 2009 and I have been having problems with my 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt for a while. Since the last year my steering wheel has been shaking every time I put on the brakes, and starting the last 3 weeks the power steering illuminates and the steering wheel just locks and I would have to pull the vehicle on to the shoulder and shut off the engine and restart it and then it works again. This normally happens 2 or 3 times a day. I have not taken it to the dealer yet although I did speak to a service advisor about the situation and he thinks it might be the power steering pump and that it would probably run me about $1200 to fix it. I really cannot afford that kind of money due to me being unemployed. The last date that this incident happened was on Aug 15 2009. Please I need your help and assistance. Thanks.
Steering wheel shaking makes noise, popping, grinding while driving and turning then doesn't feel right. Have had the problem four times this is the fifth time. The steering column and parts have been replaced four times this would be the fifth we were told by the first tech the steering wheel column would fall off in our hands and we wouldn't be able to steer the car and we have been fishing over this safteyissue with gm since . Before there is a fatality they keep replacing it cost money we are without vehicle for time to fix stress neverknowing if or when it will fall off we don't want to die in a car accident or kill someone they will not replace the car keep saying its safe thenwhy do they have too keep replacing it if it isn't a defect in how its attached to frame. We are scared enough to keep taking it back when it starts making the noise etc instead of waiting for it to fall off in our hands or lock up so we couldn't steer enough is enough we don't know what else to do or how to get help we still owe on the car bought it new and this all started 4-6 months after we bought it.
I purchased my 2006 Cobalt in February of 2007 with mileage of +/- 30000, within the first 2 weeks I had to have the steering column and power steering assist replaced and had to pay for front end alignment caused by the steering a) steering wheel shaking when driving at highway speeds and very violently when breaking and b) the power steering going out. The car now has 107000 miles on it and have had trouble with this same shaking when driving and it being violent when breaking. The dealership states gm is aware but I still have had to redo my front brakes twice (which helps temporarily). . The last time being in June or August of 2013. The shop tells me the problem the first time was the front rotors were sticking and the ground them down smooth. Then the shaking started again. I had to take my car in to have the rotors ground down again and have a serpentine belt replaced. So here I am again 7 months later and will have to do this again because the shaking has started again and is becoming so bad it will have to go to the shop again at my cost for something they know about but will not fix. I have already received a recall letter regarding the ignition problem but am told that the parts are not available and will be informed when they are. This steering/braking problem is serious and I some times fear that either something will break inside the car or I will not be able to hold on to the steering wheel and will wreak. I am afraid to drive my car any distance or speed because I fear it will fail and I see that this has been an ongoing problem since 2007 and people have complained but have received no satisfaction.
2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. Consumer states with brake system problems. The consumer stated every time she applied the brakes, the steering wheel would vibrate and there was hesitation when she braked from high to moderate speeds to slow down or to come to a complete stop. Also, aside from that, as she began to drive, the vehicle would pull to the left. The vehicle was inspected several times. All four tires were replaced and a front wheel alignment was performed, but the problem continued.
