To date, power steering control has failed on 3 seperate occasions. My safety and the safety of others is at risk when this occurs. The first incident of power steering loss was in conjested los angeles freeway speeds. The second and third incidents occurred at lower speeds and in conjested city driving which made the steering even more difficult and unsafe. My wife drives this vehicle often and power steering loss will put her safety and that of others at risk because of the difficulty of controlling the steering wheel. I am aware of the recall for this problem, however because of the unavailbility of the part(s) needed for a timely repair, my vehicle will be too risky to operate daily. The dates for the incidents are June 11th, June 20th, and June 25th. Speed for the 1st incident was 70 mph, the 2nd and 3rd incidents speed was approximately 45-50 mph.
Power steering failure. Truck was moving at approximately 20mph while turning through an intersection. Could not make it through the intersection. Dealership says 2 components are bad: the steering angle sensor. And the steering gear torque sensor. the torque sensor is subject to NHTSA recall #21v213, but the angle sensor is apparently not subject to any recall yet. Truck is not driveable without both being fixed.
On 3 separate occasions in the past week my service power steering and stability track warning lights have come on while driving and my car experienced a total loss of power steering. On the first occasion I was on a straight section of highway approaching a curve. As I entered the curve the power steering failed nearly causing me to drive straight through the curve. I pulled over turned my vehicle off and the alerts cleared immediately. On the second occasion a week later, I was pulling out of my driveway at a low rate of speed and the same lights illuminated and power steering was lost. I again shut the car off however the failures stayed present and remained present until the following day. I drove to work with no power steering with the intention of taking it to the chevy dealership closest to my office. While at work I researched my viin and noticed gm issued a recall for this problem on March 25th, 3 days after my first failure and 3 days prior to the second. I contacted the dealership and they stated no remedy was available on the recall and I needed to contact gm to obtain approval to have the work done at the dealership under recall work. I contacted gm and was told although there's an active recall for my viin, I would have to take my vehicle to the dealership and pay for the repairs. If gm is aware of a safety issue and issued a recall, why should I the consumer pay for the repairs? I was told a manger would contact me for further resolution and have yet to be contacted. Yesterday, one day after speaking to gm I have experienced the total loss of power steering for the 3rd time and it has yet to clear itself and I'm expecting the intermittent problem is now a permanent one. I have 2 young children and it's unsafe for me and my family to be in this vehicle. Gm has acknowledged that with a recall, yet fails to act on it.
This issue has been occurring since we purchased the vehicle in October of 2019. The vehicle will be traveling at various speeds at varius rpm's in various weather conditions. Driver believes that this is occuring due to malfunctioning steering gear. Steering gear has been recalled previously for vehicle make/ model and year but truck does not fall under manufacture date. Driver believes issue is related to recalled item on other vehicles. Driver has had vehicle serviced at three different locations for a total of 4 different visits. Jeff belzers in lakeville serviced vehicle twice and was in possession of vehicle for nearly 4 months trying to fix issue. Replaced steering gear. Belzers was also dealer who sold vehicle. (oct2019-feb2020 visit) suburban Chevrolet service center in eden prairie visit once inconclusive (November 2019 visit) power Chevrolet service center in newport oregon visit once inconclusive (July 2020 visit) driver is extremely worried about safety and drivability of vehicle and knows of several similar cases with vehicle.
I was driving around curve at approximately 45 mph and my power steering went out. I had very little control over steering at this point, but finally was able to navigate to the side of road. Had to turn truck off and then restarted, truck did same thing few miles down the road with notification of power steering failure. Few more miles and stabilitrack malfunction began being displayed. This is very dangerous, since you have very little steering control when this happens.
I bought the vehicle for my son. On September 13, the power steering failed on a turn on a city street, and he was unable to control the vehicle and hit a parked car on the opposite side of the street. The insurance company paid for a portion of our vehicle expense, but not the entire note which included taxes, license, fees, extended warranty and interest.
On sept 12,2020 I experienced power steering failure, loud noise from under motor and steering wheel pushing back against my attempts to steer. I turned off the vehicle and restarted and the condition went away. Later that day I experienced the same noise and resistance when shifting from drive to reverse when returning home. ( I always back into the driveway) I am very nervous that this condition may cause a crash if it occurs while driving. I drive many two-lane county highways that do not have divided two-way traffic.

Power steering failed as I was driving 55 mph under normal conditions on a state highway, making control very difficult and dangerous. Dash displays engine warning lights and a message that reads "service power steering, drive with care". Steering becomes very difficult and requires a considerable amount of effort to turn the wheel. The issue resolved after turning off the truck. It happened again yesterday 3 times on a two lane highway. Although my Colorado was built in 2/2015 the VIN is not included in the recall for steering issues. This is dangerous.

Power steering failed while driving on July 2, 2020. I was driving in traffic on city streets at the time. It was very challenging to pull into a parking lot to get to a safe place. I turned off the truck, waiting 2-3 minutes, restarted, and the problem was gone. I took it to a auto mechanic to get the codes read, the document is attached.
While driving on a city street the power steering failed and a warning appeared to have the steering checked. I turned off the engine and when I restarted the power steering was working again. I continued driving for 5 minutes and the same problem recurred. I took the vehicle to fh dailey Chevrolet in san leanddro, CA and they found that the problem was the same as for Colorados covered by a recall notice. However, my vehicle was not included under the recall.
In the last week my power steering has failed 4 times. The vehicle has been in motion each time. One time I was on the expressway. , twice on city streets and the last time on my home street. The vehicle has just over 68,000 miles. If I turn the vehicle off and wait a minute or two and then turn it back on I have power steering control back.
Vehicle was being driven down a flat residential street when power steering and stability track warning lights came on. The power steering then failed making it very difficult to drive. I drove less than a 1/4 of a mile to my residence and turned the truck off. Turned the truck back on after I inspected the under carriage. The errors reappeared. I the. Turn the truck off and on again there was no longer any warnings displayed, and all functions were normal.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving various speeds, the power steering completely failed and the power steering warning indicator illuminated simultaneously. The contact had to restart the vehicle in order for the power steering to return to normal. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. While driving at a high rate of speed (approximately 55 mph) on a two lane county road, the power steering failed on two separate occasions. When this occurred at both times, the steering became extremely difficult, a message appeared on the instrument panel that stated that the power steering had failed and to drive cautiously. The first time, not knowing what was happening, I braked to a stop, turned the engine off and then started the engine. The message reappeared briefly, the disappeared. With the second event, I was able to pull into an unoccupied parking lot, which was very difficult due to the steering. At that time, I again turned the engine off and then restarted the engine. The message again had appeared as it had at the first occurrence. It was fortunate with the first occurrence that no one following behind me and with the second occurrence I had to pull hard on the steering wheel to keep from going into the opposing lane. The first time occurred on September 3rd 2019 and the second was on September 10th 2019. The first time, I had called the dealership and was told that unless the truck currently had failing power steering, that most likely nothing would be found wrong and would waste my money. After the second time, I made an appointment with the dealership to have them check it out and mentioned to them that there had been a recall on some 2015 chevy Colorado's dealing with power steering problems. The appointment is on 9-17-19.

The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and turned off the engine. Once restarted, the steering returned to normal; however, the failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power steering module failed and needed replacement. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Takata recall. My 2015 Colorado has experienced a power steering failure after recently having a steering electrical recall repair. I feel Chevrolet is aware this is a major issue and a safety issue in a lot of Colorados. This should be handled as a recall not a 2k dollar repair put back on the consumer.
I was driving down the road at approx 30 mph and the power steering cut off and warning lights went on about service power steering. Complete loss of power steering, barely made it to side of road. I turned the car off and on and the power steering came back on. Luckily I was going straight down the highway when it happened. About 2 weeks later the same thing happened, I was driving about 30mph and the power steering cut out and the warning light came on. I barely able to pull to side of road and turned truck off, turned it back on and power steering came back. Again I was lucky to just be going straight down the same highway. I took the vehicle to chevy dealer in cerritos(penske) and they said they could not get the power steering to fail(I think its crazy to try because that could cause a major accident) after doing research online several other 2015 chevy Colorado trucks having exact same issue, and they are covered by a recall but mine is not listed in the recall. Why isn't mine included in the recall with the exact same problems?! I suspect chevy is being cheap and not wanting to pay, very sad because this problem is so dangerous!.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving approximately 25 mph, the power steering assist failed to operate as intended. The contact stated that it was difficult to maneuver the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to dale earnhardt, jr Chevrolet (3127 w tennessee st, tallahassee, FL 32304, (850) 270-1463) where it was diagnosed that the steering assembly needed to be replaced. The contact was informed of manufacturer communication number: 18027 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Known issue with this vehicle that power steering assist will fail at times causing difficult hard steering, safety issue when driving. Gm has several recalls and customer satisfaction fixes for this but would only cover half the cost to repair my vehicle. Mine was stationary all 3 times this happened but there are several reports of this occurring while the vehicle is in motion. I feel that gm should have repaired this known problem at no expense to me. I have several pages of owners stating the same problem. This is a safety issue as it can happen at any time.
Power steering failed while driving at speed on the freeway in a turn. There are many recalls for this same thing on the same model and year but not my VIN#. Recall should be expanded. Chevrolet reduced the amount for repair from $2100 to $800 but should be covered in a recall.
While driving home on my birthday at highway speeds the power steering noticeably failed. A message on the dashboard read "loss of electrical steering assist". I was close to home and near my exit, and was able to steer the vehicle home without power steering. At higher speeds it was barely tolerable, as I was not switching lanes; but in an emergency I would not have been able to. At slower speeds making turns was extremely difficult, and I am a man with strong arms. Had this occurred on a busy highway or congested road, the outcome could have been much worse for me and others around me. This is an extremely dangerous fault that has been recorded in similar gm trucks and recalls should be mandated for what may well be a very expensive fix if out of warranty. Estimated at over $2000.
When in motion the trucks power steering stops working at random speeds making the vehicle difficult to steer. Took the vehicle to a gm dealer for diagnostic and repair. The technician explained that the code dtc-c0545 steering wheel torque sensor is faulty. Cost of repair $2100. 00 I asked for the faulty parts and was informed I would need to pay for them as the dealer is required to send them back to gm because they are faulty. The vehicle has about 52,000 miles on it. This power steering failure would make it difficult to manage the vehicle at lower speeds therefore making the vehicle unsafe. The dealer/technician very strongly recommended the repair because the vehicle is unsafe to drive without this repair.
Power steering intermittently fails with stabilitrak fault message. After shutting off vehicle and restarting power steering will operate ok. 45000 miles on truck. This truck not covered under recall, although other 2015 Colorado's are with later manufacter dates. Power steering fails mostly at highway speeds mostly when driving straight.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving at unknown speeds, the power steering failed and there was an abnormal buzzing noise emerging from the dashboard. In addition, the vehicle lighting spontaneously turned off and on. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (modern Chevrolet, 800 w 4th st, winston salem, nc 27101, (336) 722-4191) where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness was chaffed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 8-4441944761. The failure mileage was 63,000. The VIN was not available.
Power steering failed at 50 mph in right turn, steering wheel jerked out of my hand in a right turn. The truck went hard left towards opposing traffic. Steered with difficulty back in my lane. This is the 5th time the steering has failed. Stop the truck and turn off the engine will normally reset the steering.
Power steering fails at random times at any speed creating extremely dangerous driving situations in a relatively large truck. It is difficult for me (a 180 pound man) to control the vehicle without the steering assist and nearly I had a serious accident as a result. There was a partial gm recall on 2015 Chevrolet Colorados for exactly this reason (recall # 15595a) however, the dealer said this did not apply to my VIN and expects me to pay 1,700 dollars to replace a flawed system with the same flawed system. The problem I experience is identical to the issue described in the recall; on top of this, my vehicle only has around 43,000 miles. Loss of power steering given my vehicles low mileage, good maintainence record and that I have never placed any significant mechanical strain or been in an accident clearly indicates to me, particularly given the strikingly applicable recall I mentioned, that this is a manufacturing error. I have found literally dozens upon dozens of similar complaints on forums, including one accident that resulted from this. I frankly am very frustrated with gm and feel that if their shoddy design is putting my and others lives in harms way, at least they should pay to replace the system with the same crummy system.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving various speeds, the power steering seized and various unknown warning indicators illuminated. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. During the most recent failure, the power steering failed to reset and the vehicle was towed to reliable Chevrolet (9901 coors blvd NW, albuquerque, nm 87114, 505-216-2993). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on her vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The power steering assist failed, making the truck unsafe to drive. The vehicle was stationary and running at the time of failure. The traction control was disabled at the same time.
Power steering failed several times this week making it almost difficult to turn steering wheel. This is a safety hazard. This happened while vehicle was in motion on a city street. .
I was driving and then my power steering went out and a caution light said power steering failure and drive with care. It was very scary because I could hardly turn my steering wheel. I was scared that I was going to crash .
