Received a safety letter several year ago (told number was 14609), I called the dealer when I got the letter (approximately 2014) and was told since my airbag light was on even though my seat belt didn't retract properly, I was not valid for the fix. Move forward to today, my airbag light came on a couple weeks ago (intermittent at first, then steady), my seat belt hasn't retracted properly for years. I took it to a mechanic for repair and they replaced the seat belt retractor. So 2 fold, I find out the letter was just an extended warranty which I missed by date but not by miles. And everything online implies the wiring harness should have been replaced so not only am I out the money I am not sure if we solved the issue. I don't understand how y'all could have made an airbag issue just an note on the page (extended warranty which expired on me) when if my airbag doesn't work it's a safety issue which could result in my death.

Shortly after I bought this truck with 33000 mile on it in June of 2018 the airbag light came on for no apparent reason and has continued to remain lit since that time. Since the vehicle is no longer under warrranty, I have been unable to get it repaired.
In October 2015, I received a notice from gm indicating a fault with the airbags. The letter indicated that they would cover the repairs if the years had not exceeded 10 past manufacture, which, on a 2004 model this was already a disqualifier. They also indicated not in excess of 120k miles, again a disqualifier on my vehicle with 150k miles. Additionally, when I showed the letter to the local dealer, and they ran a vehicle report, the recall was not shown. For all intent then, gm is disregarding the faulty airbags on my vehicle. It is my understanding that when the indicator is on, the airbags are not functioning. I would think that an airbag issue, with a known cause by the manufacturer, should be a lifetime recall. I am the original owner of the truck. Originally, this was an intermittent problem when using the left rear door, but it is no longer so. I am submitting this report today, as I am concerned that this long standing issue will never be satisfied by gm.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving 35 mph with a front seat passenger, the air bag and seat belt warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the front seat passenger's seat belt was latched. The vehicle was taken to karl Chevrolet (1101 se oralabor rd, ankeny, IA 50021, (515) 299-4300) where it was diagnosed that the present passenger module high end input was faulty and the module needed replacement. The vehicle was not immediately repaired because the dealer needed to order the parts. The contact was notified by the dealer to pick up the vehicle until the parts became available. While driving home from the dealer without a front seat passenger, the air bag and seat belt warning indicators failed to illuminate. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer 20 days later when the parts became available. The vehicle was repaired. After the vehicle was repaired, the contact inquired if the dealer disconnected the front passenger air bag and seat belt warning system. The owner of the dealer confirmed that the system was disconnected. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and of the disconnection of the warning system by the technician. A claim was opened with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 300.

Airbag light is on in the dash panel, broken wires in extended cab doors.
At different times turn signals, brights, brake lights will quit working and dash light indicator that air bag is not working will illuminate. This can happen while driving or when first starting up. At times you can push stalk up for a right hand turn and left turn signal indicator will light up and blink. If you push the stalk down for a left turn signal nothing will happen.
While in parked or in motion, the air bag indicator lamp stays lit. I took it to two separate repair shops and they were unable to correct the problem. One shop removed the front passenger seat to check for faulty wires or connections and found none. I was advised to take my 2004 Chevrolet Colorado double cab truck back to the dealership where I purchased it, to have diagnosed & repaired. The problem still exist as of today.
Sept of 2014 our Chevrolet Colorado had issues with not starting. The dealer diagnosed it as "code issues" and replaced a safety sensor. The issue was never resolved as check engine light stayed on. Oct of 2015 while driving, the airbag light came on and never went off. Also oct 2015, about the time the airbag light came on, we received a letter stating that a wire harness in this make, model and year of vehicle could cause code problems and or the airbag light to illuminate, and that gm would fix it at no cost to us, if the vehicle was within 10 yrs old or had 120,000 or less miles. Last year when this started our vehicle was 9 yrs old, yet gm will not pay for it saying it's not a safety hazard. I completely disagree as the light stays on all the time, how am I suppose to know if it's really not airbag failure as opposed to the faulty wire and harness? this letter was dated oct 2015 yet gm is saying the offer on this expired oct 29 2014 yet we didn't receive a letter until 2015.
This vehicle started having problems with the air bag light staying on, I took the truck into local chevy dealer on October 16, 2015 and it was determined that the code for the airbag and seat belt retractor were the problem and the cost was $1288. I received a letter from Chevrolet dated October 2015 which outlined the identical problem and I have called them and the case#8-1632849396 they refuse to cover this problem because the miles on the truck is 135,000 miles and they stated that the coverage is only up to 120,000. This problem is a safety issue and should be a recall and not limited to miles as they are attempting to do with the letter. I have not had truck repaired.

The wiring harness that passes through the rear drivers side door of my extended cab has failed twice now. The first time occurred at 45k and most recently at 54k miles. Both instances cause the airbag light to come on as a result of a broken wire in the harness (gm part # 20806141).

2012 chev Colorado extended cab (purchased new in 2012). Air bag light is on. 1st incident Aug 2015 (32,000 miles). Dealership ran diag scan and pulled code b0092 and repaired wires under passenger seat and cleared code. 2nd incident less than 4 months later (34,000 miles) ¿ dealership cleared code. 3rd incident Apr. 2016 (37,000 miles). Dealership found b0092 set in sdm. An inspection found three wires broken. Repaired wiring under passenger seat and cleared code. Nothing is being put under the seat. The seat occasionally gets moved forward and backward and the rear passenger door gets open and closed. An internet search reveals same problem in older models. This is definitely a safety issue. The air bag will not inflate if there is an accident. There is obviously a problem with the wires (poor quality or too short causing tension and wear & tear?). A recall should be issued and proper wiring and/or connections corrected. Also seems that the cost of repairs ($120 - $140 per incident) should be covered under warranty.
Airbag light came on, I have not schedule service with the dealer but I am going to do it this week, are there any recalls on it?.
Air bag light comes on making it unclear if occupants are protected or if air bag will just go off on its own. Problem is wires in back door jamb become fatigued and break causing failure of air bags. Vehicle is also considered an inspection failure as well in massachusetts.
Wires to the airbag wiring harness are broken in rear drive rside passenger door. Resulting in airbag light to come on.
Airbag light is on. My truck has never been in an accident. Through research I have found that the wiring in the door breaks.

If you leave it set for a day it will not start new battery and altanator was tested it was good . And airbag light is on .
I started the truck and the air bag light came on and it's been on ever since. No prior issue with it.
I have a 2007 chevy Colorado that airbag light remained on, after searching the web found problem information that problem could be with wires that are in the door with the extended cab model. I had cut the cover in the extended door to reveal the wires to find that 4 wires were broken. I spliced together the wires and the air bag light went off. I open and close this door every day but do not think that wires should break. I went 4 months not knowing airbags would work or not. I think this is a big issue .
The wiring harness between the truck body and the rear driver side half-door (extended cab) passes through a flexible rubber housing. The pair of wires to the seat belt tensioner (part of the airbag system) were broken completely in half mid-way through the rubber housing from normal use of opening and closing the door. Airbag light on dash stayed on permanently which prompted me to locate the problem. Only found it because the radio speaker in that same door had stopped working as well. Found that it had broken wires in the same location along with the airbag system wires. This problem is well documented in online forums as many Colorado owners across many production years have had the same issue.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact started that the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The contact mentioned that the air bags wire harness traveled through the rear passenger¿s door hinge and with excessive usage of the door the wires fractured which caused the air bag indicator to illuminate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Djr.
My airbag light came on. The code said it is my driver seat saftey belt.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated the air bag warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,0000 lb.
Air bag light came on for no apparent reason.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact noticed the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. Whenever the front driver seat was occupied and the seat belt was not engaged, the fasten seat belt warning indicator failed to chime. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they informed the contact that the air bag and seat belt pre tensioner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. Updated 06/26/12.
Air bag light came on, found the problem in the rear doors. That the wire from opening and closing doors broken the wire in half. Causing my airbag light to come on.
