4 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

Gm has an ongoing problem with this range of trucks in regards to the pass-lock anti-theft module being defective. What happens is the truck intermittently thinks its being car jacked and the anti-theft system activates, leaving you stranded for approximately 10 mins. I have been stranded multiple times, first having the truck towed to a repair shop just for it to start right up. I was curious to what gm is doing about this well-documented problem and why it has not made the list for recalls or campaigns as of yet. This issue is a very costly recurrent repair (due to the replacement part being the same defective anti-theft module). Many gm forums along with youtube videos have shown this problem has been presented to gm without any discussion of resolution. I feel that this issue of intermittent not starting problem due to a defective anti-theft module should be considered a safety hazard. As a long-standing chevy customer I feel obligated to seek resolution along with reimbursement not just for myself but to the other thousands of chevy truck owners with the same issue.

While driving the pass code anti-theft light came on. Parked at destination and three hours later returned to vehicle. Opened the vehicle with a key rather than the fob, vehicle would not start. 6 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

The passlock anti-theft device keeps my vehicle from starting thinking it's being stolen. . Disabling the fuel pump. . This is a safety issue and has also made me late for work several times and stranded. It started occurring this year July 22, 2017 with no prior incidents. It's occurring on a regular interval and it's getting to the point that I cant rely on my vehicle to start as normal. Please let there be a recall on getting the manufacturer general motors to fix this on my Colorado as it's the only fault on this vehicle. The faulty passlock systems should be a recalled item since it will disable the fuel pump and having to wait 10 minutes for the the system to reset at unknown or unsafe places. I am a single mother with two kids and I rely on my vehicle to commute to and from school and work. Luckily the incidents have occurred at work, at home, at walmart parking lot. . But who knows when the system decided as it gets worst. My seventeen year old son has taken the vehicle out and I'm always worried about this safety due to this faulty passlock anti-theft device. The vehicle has 181,450 miles, no check engine lights show on dash. . Other than this issue. . It's the only reason the vehicle is mostly parked in my driveway. . Only myself will take the drive it for short distances. I wish and hope to have the manufacturer render a needed recall on this passlock anti-theft device system.

7 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

This is a safety issue as the vehicle (many 2007 Colorado's at least from review of the NHTSA complaint page & discussion with other users) fails to start, sometimes once, sometimes twice, and I have had 4 occasions in a row where the truck failed to start. It appears the anti-theft system engages for no apparent reason resulting in a 10-15 minute "time out" before you can again attempt to start the vehicle. Obvious as the anti-theft icon is flashing when you attempt to restart the vehicle. This at first was simply an inconvenience, but now it is not only frustrating, it is dangerous should you have to need this vehicle in a emergency (evacuation from your home or a medical emergency). This had first started to be once every few weeks, and now that I'm at 61,500 miles, it has been more frequent (once it happened 4 times in a row) almost 3-4 times per week. You can't be expected to change your schedule to go to work or just use the vehicle to carry on your life 30-40 minutes earlier than you already do just in case the vehicle fails to start; or be able to use this vehicle with any reliability in an emergency. Spoke with a local chevy dealer repair shop on the phone months ago and they basically said they were not aware of this type of issue and most likely couldn't resolve it as it is an intermittent problem.

8 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

I was making a left turn and I let the clutch out a little too fast which stalled the engine. I went to restart and engine just craned over and over would noy start. That is where I almost got hit. Had to push trk thru intersection . I have had this problem with it not restarting for a few years now. I have to wait 10 minuites before restarting. It happens intermittinly when I go to start it does not start. It just cranks over. The book says its an anti-theft switch. I have to wait 10 minuits before restarting. I have seen on chevy Colorado trk sites that it is a common problem with the ignition switch.

9 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/18/2013

I purchased this vehicle new, and for too much information the vehicle is a piece of junk. About a couple of months ago I unlock my vehicle using the remote opener. Get in the vehicle, put key in ignition, try and start vehicle. Vehicle will not start, the engine will turn over, but will not start. I noticed during this time, will trying to get vehicle to start, that the anti-theft lock light has lit up on dash board. To no avail the vehicle would not start. At this time I was not aware of any problems with vehicle, so I think here we go another trip to the dealer to get piece of junk fixed. After I hitch a ride home, I search the web for any reasons vehicle will not start. I found articles from individuals who also had this same problem. I learned from one that for some reason the vehicle's anti-theft system thinks you are trying to steal your own vehicle. I also learned that if you wait 10 minutes after your first failed attempt at starting vehicle the anti-theft would reset itself and vehicle would start. Try to start the vehicle the next morning, and it starts. I think okay I will stop using remote and not lock vehicle, see if this stops problem. It does not. I get in vehicle about 2 days ago and again the engine will turn over, but will not start. There is the anti-theft light lit up on dash board again. This time I wait 10 minutes and the vehicle will start. I have called the dealer and gm, from both I hear there is no solution. Can't by-pass the anti-theft, and for service dept. To find problem, vehicle has to experience same problem at the time of repair. Since the problem is intermittent, a solution is unlikely. There appears to be a problem with this type vehicle, built around the time frame as the purchase of the one I bought. Gm should be made to find a solution. I do not like being stranded, and selling the product to someone else is not an option.

10 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 12/20/2012

After my vehicle gained 67xxx it began to have issues with the anti theft system. When I turn my vehicle off, and turn it back on the anti theft light blinks. This has stalled my vehicle. When I attempt to turn it on the engine will crank and the lights flicker on and off. After doing some research I have found that numerous people have also encountered this issue. The only fix know at the moment is to wait 10 minutes and then the engine will start. This can become a nuisance and a danger. I had recently encountered a nail in my tire. I had to pull over on the highway to check what was happening. When I shut my engine off I was stuck on the highway due to my anti theft light blinking and my engine not starting due to this anti theft issue. I have addressed this with gm and also the local dealer with no success for assistance. It was suggested that I do a diagnostics test, but that would run me upward of 400+ to figure out what is going on. I find this to be a manufacture issue. Numerous people have addressed this issue online.

14 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/19/2011

Vehicle would not start after parked and shut off engine. Found that the passlock anti-theft system had activated somehow. The engine would not turn over, only a few audible tones and the red "lock" light on. Also it showed an abs fault. Note- I do not have an aftermarket alarm or locks on my truck, I actually dont have any aftermarket anything on my truck besides tinted windows. I checked the battery with my multimeter, voltage was at 12. 7vdc. After a few more unsuccessful attempts, I unhooked the battery and let it sit for about 15 minutes to maybe reset the computer. Tried again and found that the computer did not reset. Called the dealer, jn automotive in honolulu, and they said they have never heard of the problem and to bring it in. I got it towed there and after a day they said that the battery had a low voltage of 11. 6~vdc and thats why it wouldnt start/turn over. I know for a fact that 11+vdc will turn an engine over at least a few times if not just start it. So they were able to start the truck by apparently unhooking the battery from the truck for a long period of time (maybe an hour, overnight, whatever) and replacing it. This did not solve the issue of why my truck "all of a sudden" initiated the anti-theft system and lock me out from starting the engine. They charged me over $200 for a new battery plus $100+ for labor because they said the problem was with the battery and not the truck electronics. I really needed my truck as I had all my tools and paperwork in there and I had to go back to work. They said this is the first time they encountered this problem. Google revealed many accounts of this problem. Oh, and by the way, when I was there I saw at least 6 newer corvettes and 4 newer avalanches there for some problem so watch out chevy owners. . .

18 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/30/2010

2006 chevy Colorado will not start with proper key. When attempting to start vehicle, ignition switch malfunctions and will make anti theft system think vehicle is being stolen. Proper key is being used and spare key has been used to verify problem. Have researched internet and lot of the chevy Colorado's are having the same problem new or not. Gm wants $400 to fix a clearly faulty part.

19 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

The passlock anti theft system on my 05 chevy Colorado failed this winter leaving me stranded out in the cold for a half hour or more on multiple occasions. To reset it you must turn the key forward and wait ten minutes, then repeat that two more times before it will reset and then the vehicle will start. However it takes a special type of scanner that a dealership must plug into the internet to reset the code so unless you pay a dealership to do that you have to keep trying to start your car (up to a half hour of trying) for the next 100 ignition cycles. I had to do this in January and February this year in -10 to -30 degree weather and no chevy dealership would reset the code for less than $90.

20 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/30/2008

Anti-theft locks up engine sometimes twice a day. Must wait 15 minutes for anti-theft to timeout for vehicle to start. I've had numerous visits to mechanics, locksmiths, truck towed. Gm dealer tells me they have never heard of this problem. I see this is a very common problem among other 2007 chevy Colorado owners. I have emailed gm with a complaint and they never responded. Very frustrated! I have been a loyal chevy owner my whole life. I will never buy another chevy again. Unfortunately I'm not wealthy and can't just replace this disaster of a vehicle. Let's hope I'm never in an emergency situation where my vehicle not starting causes detrimental results. Shame shame shame on you chevy for your utter lack of responsibility to fix a known problem.

21 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/28/2008

The anti-theft system in my truck (and in many other chevy's, apparently) will prevent the car from starting. It happens randomly, but frequently.

22 Anti-theft Controller problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

On occasion, my vehicle will not start. It appears that the anti-theft system comes on and will not allow the vehicle to start. Letting the vehicle sit for ten minutes tends to fix the problem. My vehicle has approximately 65k miles and this occurs roughly six times a year. When the dealer tries to identify the problem, they cannot find anything wrong with it.
