2 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

A few years ago, noticed my cruise control wasn't working. I took it to a certified repair shop and found out the part was under recall, and that my brake lights weren't working either. The problem was fixed, until this week. I noticed today that while driving, the cruise isn't working. When I parked my truck, I tested my back brakes in a reflection- not working either! again! is this part under recall still?.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/05/2019

Truck has 25,000 miles. I do not drive it often because fuel economy has never been as advertised, no better than 15 mpg. When it worked, it was fun to drive. Now fails inspection because the frame is severely rusted, my truck is now unsafe. Not cost effective to repair, I have to sell as scrap. Radio replaced once. Blower works but very noisy. Abs sensors were replaced after 10,000 miles and need replacement again. I have replaced inner and outer tie rods after 21k miles. I have replaced gas tank gasket and exterior cab brake light. Also replaced transmission shifter cable due to rust. Tube on rack and pinion rusted and replaced. Tiny coolant leak that I cant find. All I can remember. Most faulty vehicle I have ever owned. Never buy a first year model of any vehicle.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/23/2016

My brake lights all went out at the same time. I was driving on the interstate and had to stop suddenly. The tractor trailer behind me nearly rear ended me. The cruise control also went out. I had this issue repaired under recall number 06030 five years ago. It is identically the same, yet Chevrolet says they will not repair it due to mileage and vehicle age. This is extremely dangerous.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/21/2015

My cruise control and my rear driver's side top tail light went out a week or so ago. Today, my stop lights stopped working completely, including the 3rd brake light. I was almost rear ended and another driver informed me that my brake lights didn't work. After researching the issue, I discovered that the problems I'm experiencing are related to 2 switches above my brake pedal-the stop lamp switch and the brake cruise release switch. I called the chevy recall hotline and provided my VIN #. The girl lacy informed me there wasn't a recall for my vehicle and that they would do nothing to help me get the problem resolved. I've seen numerous reports online of other people with the same issue being denied as well. The reference # to my call is 71-1478975898. I believe this to be an extreme safety hazard and would like chevy to cover the cost of the repair and any accidents I may get into as a result of this problem. Thank you. Andrew bihn.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/23/2015

Brake lights and cruise control do not work. Checked fuses and they were good. Likely due to faulty brake switch. There is a recall out for this issue but it does not cover the 2010 model.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

The brake light switch needed to be replaced on our 2012 chevy Colorado. From review, chevy has recalled Colorados of different years for this same issue. I believe the brake light switch recall should be expanded to other years as this problem is occurring in later models than the most current recall year of 2009. We have never had a brake light switch fail on any of our other vehicles. Seems more than coincidental that it would occur on our Colorado, when there was a recall previously on the same model, but different manufacture years. Chevy should pay for our repair as well as recall this part for all 2012 Colorados. The failure of the brake light switch results in the brake lights not lighting when the brake pedal is pressed. This could result in a dangerous rear end collision as drivers following would be unaware that the brakes were deployed.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

I bought the truck new in 2004. It has no mechanical problems or rust. The issue is that about 5-6 inches of the frame in front of the drivers side rear spring shackle has been rusted away and the shackle has been pushed up toward the bed. The abs fault light and brake lights come on periodically because of the shifting of the rear axle. Chevrolet said they can't do anything because the truck is too old and too many miles. Only 10 years old and less than 100,000 miles. It has been garaged and I don't see why there is so much rust on the frame. I have had trucks with way more miles and a decade older with less rust than this one. I would like to see Chevrolet stand behind this vehicle and do something about it. I can't drive it safely anymore. It has been a great truck and I would hate to lose it. Is there anything that can be done to make Chevrolet do something? I would certainly hope so.

17 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Traveling on a dark cold night when vehicle coded service engine abs and traction control came on we had no headlights brakes lights no wipers no heat or air and unable to unlock doors. We were fortunate that we git off the side if road before any collison. We were unable to get anything to come back on for a few minutes. We actually had to shut off vehicle and restart that worked until we could get home. No one cm tell us what is wrong with the truck. Now it is not running and unable to drive it. Not very pleased with this truck. We bought it new in 2009. I feel that this is a problem gm should have to fix. I still can't find a recall for this vehicle.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Anti lock brakes make noise. Warning lights come on . Ok above 30 mph but brake warning lights stay on. Dealer says both front wheel hubs need to be replaced. They want around $1000 to do this. Contacted Chevrolet customer assistance center. Service request number 71-1290010272. They will not do anything about this, requested this in writing they refused to give me this in writing . This has been an ongoing thing with this truck, and many others from what I see on the internet. They say truck to old & to many miles, but they advertise long lasting chevy trucks. 06 59000 miles . Also had a $2900 problem with engine . Chevrolet helped on this. Cost me about $530 to fix a factory defect. Thanks.

19 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

No brake lights. Fuse is not blown.

20 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

Abs light comes on and doesnt shut off. There is a "rubbing/pulsating" noise when I push the brakes and I can hear something activating in the engine compartment (maybe the abs computer?). I checked the brake fluid and its good. Nothing was damaged when the brakes were changed earlier. When I turn it on after having it off for a little while, there are no fault indications. When I start moving forward I can here some sort of motor or pump or something initiating. After a little bit I start pushing the brakes at the stop sign then all of a sudden the abs fault light, emergency brake light comes on as well as the abs fault and brakes message flashing across the display. I am not taking it to the dealership as they are worthless.

21 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

Upon starting the vehicle and driving at low speeds the abs starts grinding for about five minutes, after five minutes the brakes stop and an abs fault appears disengaging the abs system. The system restarts after the car is restarted and then the same issue will occur. Sometime when the truck needs to make a quick stop this will begin to activate the fault issue. Some times the issue is serious enough to engage a total failure of the system and the parking brake light will also come on.

22 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/11/2010

For several years I had problems with my engine light, abs light, and brake light intermittently coming on. When these lights would come on, the antilock brakes would sometimes prematurely engage, dangerously vastly increasing the stopping distance. The vehicle was reacting as if the wheels were locking up, so it was prematurely engaging the antilock. This happened mostly on dry pavement during light breaking. I could feel and hear the antilock pulsing the petal releasing the brake pressure. I couldn't get good braking, even when I pushed the brake pedal to the floor. I took my car to a gm authorized service center/dealership to have it diagnosed and repaired. Despite several trips to the service center, replacing many parts and spending about $2000, the problems continued. It wasn't until after I wrote an angry letter to the dealership management that they replaced a vehicle speed sensor which solved the problem. It was aggravating because I had to pay extra for antilock features when I bought the vehicle. The antilock feature was supposed to improve safety, but ended up being very dangerous. If I would've had a wreck because of the bad brakes, the government would have likely held me liable, for an expensive and dangerous problem that they had created. The government had pressured the automotive industry to include expensive antilock brakes that were complicated, unreliable and dangerous. Intermittently, it would take 3 to 5 times more stopping distance than legacy brakes without antilock. Conventional legacy brakes I could have fixed myself. With antilock brakes; propriety diagnostic equipment was required, so I was dependent on gm authorized service; which was very expensive and did a lousy job.

23 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

I own a 2006 chevy Colorado with only 42,000 miles, my issue is the abs fault light appears on the information console and stays lit. I've gone to a dealership and they don't seem to have the answer. I've been on a few Colorado forums and it all seems to be the same complaint, their abs/brake light comes on and no one has an answer.

24 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/21/2010

I was driving on the highway and tried to use the cruise control and it didn't work. My brake lights were also not working. I didn't know my brake lights were not working until I had to slow down for a car in front of me and a car behind me almost hit me. It wasn't until I got off the expressway and a man told me my brake lights were not working. I checked the fuses and they are all in working order. I called my local dealership and the told me that my 2007 chevy Colorado was not part of the recall even though there was a recall for this sort of problem. He said my VIN number was not one of those recalled.

25 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/15/2009

The abs light comes on and off frequently. I brought to dealership and was told that its because the hub bearing and wheel sensors are rubbing against abs light wire to cause it to turn on. And there is a bulletin for this problem but not recall so I have to pay for it. Not my problem that gm knows of problem with hub bearing rubbing my abs light wire. When abs light is on my abs brakes do not work. This cant be safe the abs coming on and off as you drive. Needs to be recalled. The bulletin number is #pit3460n abs light on with ebcm dtcs c0035 c0040 c0220 and or c0221. Abs and or brake light may illuminate at times.

26 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/15/2009

I got a recall notice for my truck, the brake lights won't work in the taillight system. The brake light above the back window works. When I called about this I was told the recall was over my vehicle was not one of the recalled vehicles, all my other lights work it is only my brake lights that don't work. I feel like this is part of the recall. What should I do. They say arkansas is not part of the recall.

27 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 06/11/2009

Abs fault warning and brake light came on. Dealer fixed left side wheel assembly and sensor for $600 . Later same thing happened. Brake light and abs fault warning stay on constantly. Brakes failed once momentarily without warning. This has happened once, but could happen again at anytime.

28 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/06/2009

Brake lights are not working when the brakes are engaged.

29 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

I own a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado which I bought new in November 2006. The vehicle was manufactured in April 2006. I was rear ended causing $1,500. 00 of damage to the rear bumper assembly and the bumper was pushed into the painted area under the driver side tail light. The collision was the cause of the brake light switch being burned up, not allowing contacts to engage brake lamps. I have notified Chevrolet customer service of this issue and they have done nothing. I had to purchase a replacement switch and have it installed at my cost. I am seeking for Chevrolet to repair my vehicle as the person's insurance company said this would be considered a fault of the vehicle and would not pay for the damages.

30 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/23/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact heard a loud growling noise and the vehicle pulled to the right while traveling over 30 mph. The abs warning indicator illuminated when the growling noise was heard. The dealer stated that the driver's side hub failed and would cost over $700 to repair. Her VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06v139000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch). The failure and current mileages were less than 40,880. Updated 02/24/09. The vehicle pulled to the right when the brakes were applied. The brake sensors were bad. Updated 02/05/09.

31 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 03/19/2008

The brake light switch has failed multiple times. It was covered twice under a recall. Switches only last 1. 5-2 years. There is no warning or dash light when they go out. I have almost been rear ended twice. Happened again April 13, 2015. I drove it straight to the dealer when I found out in traffic. I knew it was the brake switch again and the dealer confirmed. The dealer called gm to see if they would cover the replacement. They refused. The dealer gave me a discount as they know it is an issue and charged me $87 to change. This is the second time I have had to pay. He gave me this number to call but that was no use as they refused last time. 800-222-1020. Most concerning to me is the lack of concern by gm to fix a know safety issue in the brake and light system. Someone probably has or will be seriously injured or killed. They need to come up with a comprehensive fix and at a minimum continue covering failures under warranty. Not fixing the design problem then making money charging people is not right. The dealer who did the work last time is five star chevy in dallas, TX. Craig greene was the representative who tried to help me with gm if you need to contact him. Dealer tried but gm did not take ownership for their product.

32 Brake Light On problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 11/08/2007

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving 15 mph, the abs light illuminated. If the vehicle exceeds 25 mph, the abs and brake lights illuminate. The contact spoke with the dealer and they stated that nothing could be done. The current mileage was 77,890. Updated 04-07-08 the consumer stated when the abs malfunctions, it feels as though he is stepping on the gas and brake simutanously.

33 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 09/28/2007

The brake light switch installed by Chevrolet to replace the brake light switch that they had recalled, had also failed to work. It stopped working shortly after they had installed the new one, but I hadn't realized because I thought my brake lights just kept going out. I wasn't even aware that there was a recall on the brake light switch and that they had replaced it when I had taken it in for another recall issue. I even told my mechanic and he just replaced the brake lights. It wasn't until much later that I realized my lights were actually fine but that the brake light switch was not activating them. I reported this to GMC and they said that they would not fix it unless I paid for it out of pocket ($137 for a diagnostic test, $64 for the actual replacement).

34 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 07/07/2006

The cruise control stopped working. I paid little attention to this as it did not impair the operation of my truck. Little did I know that my brake lights were not working either. This was due to a brake lamp switch failure. A recall was issued by Chevrolet in 2006, and my vehicle was repaired. In 2010 my cruise control went out again. I knew from the first time that this was a severe safety issue and checked my brake lights. They were not working. It was the very same problem. The brake lamp switch had went bad again. I contacted Chevrolet and they refused to pay for the repair, siting "normal wear and tear". The local dealer did pay half of the repair as a courtesy. Now, in 2012 the brake lamp switch has went out again and my local dealer is talking with Chevrolet to try and get them to pay for the repair. We will see if they stand behind their product and treat a loyal customer right.
