My truck only has 16,600 miles on it and the rotors and brakes are already shuddering. The dealership told me I needed my front and rear brakes and rotors replaced. It is beyond ridiculous when my last truck a 2020 chevy Colorado had no rotor or brake problems and have 90,000 miles when I traded it in.

There have about 4 incidents where my vehicle has engaged the automatic emergency breaks while I’m driving, even though there are no cars around me close enough to cause that reaction. Called 911 on most recent incident to get medical evaluation to check chest from seat belt sudden locking.
While driving in grocery store parking lot. The brake booster completely failed with no notice almost causing me to hit someone. I had to throw the truck in park while moving to avoid hitting pedestrians. The brake pedal is completely compressed to the floor as I was stomping the brakes in an attempt to stop. Had I not thought quick enough I would of hit at least 2 people.

At ~20,300 miles, severe chassis and steering wheel vibration occurred during high-speed highway descents while braking. Safety risk: reduced steering control at highway speed. The vehicle was inspected by a franchised Chevrolet dealer in lakewood, CO. The technician's written service notes document rear rotor lateral runout (lro) of 0. 006 inches against gm's maximum allowable specification of 0. 002 inches per gm service bulletin 00-05-22-002 — 3x the engineering limit. The defect was confirmed in dealer documentation and is available for inspection. After I identified this discrepancy, the service manager claimed the technician meant 0. 006 mm (metric). Photographic evidence from the dealer's own diagnostic video shows a dial indicator clearly labeled in 0. 001-inch increments with the needle resting on the 6th tick mark. A metric reading of 0. 0002 inches is physically impossible to display as 6 full divisions on this tool. Gm customer assistance denied the warranty claim, classifying it as maintenance. Lateral runout is a geometric specification, not a wear measurement. A rotor 3x out of tolerance at 20,300 miles is a material or assembly defect. No warning lamps appeared. The safety concern remains unresolved.
While driving a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado on interstate 95 in florida, the vehicle suddenly experienced a loss of brake assist. The brake pedal became extremely hard and very difficult to press. The driver had difficulty slowing the vehicle and had to use the emergency brake to help bring the vehicle to a stop. This occurred on interstate 95, which is a very busy highway with high-speed traffic. The sudden loss of braking assistance created a serious safety hazard and could have resulted in a crash. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the mechanic diagnosed the problem as a failed vacuum pump that broke and damaged the exhaust camshaft and related components. The repair required replacement of the vacuum pump, exhaust camshaft assembly, camshaft actuator and solenoid, and valve cover gasket. The total repair cost was approximately $2,329. The vehicle had approximately 64,348 miles at the time of the failure. No warning lights or prior symptoms were noticed before the failure occurred.

On Wednesday, February 18th, I was driving on the freeway, usual heavy traffic right off of it at 5:00pm. When exiting and merging onto the street, I pressed on my break to slow down and meet the speed of traffic, but my breaks felt hard, I struggled pressing it down, and my car wasn’t slowing down. I was able to swerve off into a dirt patch next to the road. Then I panicked, unable to find where my emergency break was, I put my car in park and it eventually came to a stop. I then took the car to the dealership, and they’ve told me that the vacuum pump needs a replacement. The car has currently been at the dealership for a week and a half and there still seems to be no solution. I’ve reached out to general motors and with the responses they’ve given me, it feels like they the know what’s going on but have thus far given me the run around. They say they’ve reached out to the dealership, but when I mention it to my dealership advisor, they say they haven’t heard anything.

Recall was performed on truck about a year ago for the pedestrian collision automatic braking. Today the truck locked up the brakes in traffic and there wasn’t a pedestrian in sight. I believe the recall didnt truly fix the issue, as it has given false alerts before without applying the brakes.

Driving on expressway step on brakes to slow down, brakes become spongy and will not stop quickly, only slow down, engine decelarates to 60 mph. This has now happened 7 times in one and a half years.
The front brake pads are showing extremely uneven ware. Outer brake pad is at 2mm and the inner is at 7mm due to a spring issue on the front caliper. There is also a lip on the left rotor. The tech used 25-na-365 to help identify the issue. However, my VIN is not covered under this repair. The result is a $500 out of pocket repair for something that should be a mfg defect and not wear and tear. As this was already outlined as an issue with other 2024 chevy Colorado's I am asking this to be expanded to cover my vehicle as well. The issues was also causing my brake sensors to "detect" new brakes and I had to inform the vehicle that I have not had brake service done to trigger this alert.
On Sep 14th 2025 with km 41959km, after turn on my Colorado, after I filled the fuel tank, I had driven more of 50 min, a message appears in the screen control: failed braking system 100km/h max velocity and a second message appears: provide service to esc. Then turn off the Colorado, wait some seconds and turn on again, no messages appears. So I continue driving normally until Dec 21st 2025 with km 47200km driving on a boulevard, I did stop two times due to traffic, automatic start/stop activate, in the second stop when start on again same message appears: failed braking system 100km/h max, I felt the brakes not responding, my Colorado stopped over a greater distance. If I hadn't maintained a safe following distance, I wouldn't have been able to stop in time and I would have crashed into other vehicle. I arrived on home safe but nervous. At next day, Dec 22th turn on my Colorado and appears same message, km 47245km I turned off and tried turn on again but it not turn on, battery low message appeared, then I had to have my Colorado towed to the car dealership. It is on revision waiting a diagnosis. I hope you can analysis this issue. Thanks.
Visibly observed antifreeze / coolant leaking from top radiator hose where it connects to the radiator. Dealer replaced upper radiator o-ring but it's still leaking. At 17000 miles a service brake warning message showed up on information screen. Front brake rotors are warped. Dealer states normal wear on front brakes. Also the dealership stated the front left inner brake pad was down to 2mm of pad left. Wanted over $420 to turn rotors and replace pads. I inquired why the left front pads were worn so much than the right side. They stated this was normal!.
I was driving down a hill and hit my brakes and the pushed back against me and then went right to the floor with minimal braking. I got an error message on my dash that said “brake system failure- do not exceed 62 mph” luckily it was early in the morning and nobody was in front of me. All of the lights were green and between the engine braking and the little brake power that I had I made it up the hill (about a mile) to the chevy dealership. I got an error notification the day prior that said there was an electrical error and my check engine light came in. I drove straight to the dealership but they couldn’t do anything since it was 4:30 and later than work hours so they made me an appointment for the next day and let me go. They told me later that day that it was an issue with the master cylinder (which with some research I found that there is an active lawsuit against this issue) I was issued a loaner vehicle with a crack straight across the entire windshield (it was all they had available and I was told it would be “okay” so I’m fine with that).
In December 2025 I was driving my 2022 chevy Colorado with 2. 5 liter all of a sudden with no prior warning or lights I have an extremely hard brake pedal could barely stop I wasnt far from home when I pulled into drive I left it running to check brake fluid saw some smoke . I pop hood and saw brake fluid full but smoke coming from the back of motor I couldn't tell where so I walked around to look underneath and saw oil all over. I shut engine off and had towed to chevy dealership diagnosis vacuum pump failure with engine damage.

Component failure: body control module causing systematic electrical failures: door locks, power windows, window regulators, four-wheel drive transfer case display. Components intact, available for inspection. Safety risk: door locks malfunction preventing emergency exit. Power windows fail affecting communication/egress. 4wd display fault (yellow auto vs white) indicates transfer case control issues affecting traction in mountain winter driving at 10,000ft elevation. Unpredictable electrical failures create safety risk during remote travel. Dealer confirmation: approximately 20 dealer visits. Each time: scan codes, test drive, "no fault found. " problem temporarily clears via battery disconnect/reconnect, proving electrical fault not mechanical. Dealer cannot diagnose root cause, hasn't performed systematic electrical testing. Manufacturer inspection: none despite repeated failures. Warning symptoms: intermittent: door ajar warnings, power window/lock failures, 4wd indicator yellow, various warning lights. All symptoms simultaneously resolve after battery disconnect/reconnect, indicating bcm or power distribution fault. Pattern repeats with increasing frequency. Critical: research shows multiple 2023 Colorado owners report identical patterns - intermittent multi-system failures resolving via battery reset. Indicates systematic 2023 model year defect, likely bcm firmware/hardware issue. Problem occurs unpredictably, clears during dealer transport. Request gm engineering data logging during normal operation.
This is the fifth vehicle with the 2. 5l engine that has experienced vacuum pump failure resulting in a broken exhaust camshaft. Without warning, drivers have experienced a complete loss of brake function as a result of the vacuum pump failure.
Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado trail boss mileage: approximately 14,000 miles I am submitting this complaint because the abs braking system on my vehicle activates unexpectedly and causes a temporary loss of braking when driving over uneven pavement. When braking over potholes, bumps, or rough road surfaces at low to moderate speeds, the abs system engages even though traction is available. When this happens, brake pressure is reduced to the point where the vehicle does not slow as expected. The abs warning indicator flashes briefly, and there is a noticeable delay before normal braking resumes. This behavior has occurred multiple times in normal driving conditions on city streets, not during panic stops or slippery conditions. The issue feels most pronounced when approaching intersections or slowing in traffic over broken pavement, where consistent braking is critical. The momentary reduction in braking force significantly increases stopping distance and creates a safety concern. The vehicle has low mileage, has not been modified, and is maintained as delivered from the manufacturer. There are no warning lights remaining on after the event, and the issue appears to be related to abs calibration rather than driver input or road conditions. This does not feel like normal abs operation and gives the impression that braking is interrupted at the exact moment it is needed. Given the frequency and repeatability of the issue, I believe this represents a potential safety defect that could contribute to a collision, particularly in urban driving environments with uneven road surfaces. I am submitting this complaint to document the issue and to request that the abs braking behavior on this vehicle be reviewed for safety.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and failed to decelerate as intended while the brake pedal was depressed. An unknown message was displayed. In addition, the contact stated the vehicle failed to respond properly while the accelerator pedal was depressed. Upon inspection, the contact noticed an abnormal engine oil leak. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was later towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with an exploded brake booster and metal shavings inside the engine. The vehicle remained at the local dealer unrepaired due to the cost. The local dealer could not guarantee that the repairs would correct the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I have experienced brake failure twice while driving my 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. When the failure occurs, the dashboard displays multiple warnings, including “service traction control,” “service power steering drive with care,” and “no assist soon. ” when these messages appear, the steering becomes extremely stiff, the brakes lose stopping power, and the vehicle becomes very difficult to control. The first incident happened around April 2024, and the dealer performed a software update. The issue happened again around October 2024 at approximately 24,000 miles. The vehicle is primarily used on highways and has no modifications. This is a serious safety concern. The combination of brake loss and power steering failure could result in loss of control, crash, injury, or death. There was no warning before the failures occurred. The dealer cannot confirm a permanent fix. This problem needs to be investigated for a potential recall. This vehicle is now unsafe and unreliable. I refuse to transport my family in it. I am seeking a full refund/buyback, as multiple safety system failures are unacceptable and dangerous.
Today while driving my brakes got super hard. Had to use my entire weight to get it to stop and still was moving forward. Had to use the emergency brakes and a prayer. Luckily I wasn’t on the highway or it would’ve been a deadly accident. When I opened the hood the camshaft sensor was broken loose. Mind you I had taken the truck to the dealer a while back for a rattling noise at 1500 rpm and they couldn't figure out the issue. They replace the catalytic converter under warranty. But kept making the same noise around the same rpm. Obviously it wasn't the converter. My truck has 43,136 miles only. 2021 Colorado 2. 5 luckily I’m alive today but this must be taken care of as soon as possible. I read a lot of Colorado’s seem to have the same issues. Needs a recall.
I was on my way home from work and I was on highway 16 in washington state near port orchard and I was driving 64mph and all vehicles in front of me were all breaking slowing down pretty fast and when I pressed down on my brakes the brakes were totally stiff I could not stop and had to drive on the side of the road and passed 20 plus cars and was finally able to come to a stop. If I had no where to go I would’ve hit the car in front of me at a high rate of speed potentially causing a major or deadly accident. They were working fine 5 minutes before that. I think it is a major issue that will cause fatalities in the future if this problem isn’t taken care of. I’ve never had a vehicle do this and I’ve been driving for 38 years.
Happened twice now while driving, power steering suddenly lost and two messages on dash: loss of power steering and stabilitrak. Pulled over and turned off ignition. When restarted all errors automatically cleared and systems appear to be functioning correctly. Steering without power assist is very difficult and high safety concern at low speed driving.

Intermittent break failure service dealer could not duplicate contacted GMC they say call back if it happens again.
October 2025----problem with 2017 Chevrolet Colorado wt with 2. 5l engine and 6 speed automatic. It has 57,000 miles on it. Original owner--bought new. "stabilitrak" warning light came on when I first started the pickup in the morning and stayed on. Then a message appeared saying that there could be a steering issue or a control issue operating the pickup and to take it to the dealer for service. Colorado starts normally and runs normally. Only issue is the warning light for the stabilitrak is on constantly. I read in the manual that tcs(traction control system) and the stabilitrak system have been disabled. The owner's manual states "the vehicle is safe to drive; however, you do not have the benefit of stabilitrak, so reduce your speed and drive accordingly. " have a dealer service the system. I have had no safety issues or risky situations. Have about 300 miles added since it occurred. It has not been inspected yet by a dealer.
At engine start up there were two warnings that came up on info screen. "service front brake monitor" and "front brake pads low". Just before this incident the monitor showed front pads at 82% brake life and the rear pads at 84%. Upon my own inspection the driver side front brake pads are worn significantly more than the passenger side. Front brakes are also squealing when coming to a stop. Chevrolet dealership inspection/repair scheduled for 9/22/25.
I have had 3 separate occasions where the automatic emergency braking has engaged with nothing in front to trigger it. Each time was one a busy section of road, two of those times I had traffic behind me nearly causing an accident.
Many warning lights are on for traction control, abs , brakes service esc, trailer braking and the adaptive cruise control system is not working, it was reported to the dealer, they checked it said bad battery, they coded it out said it is fine now on 9/5/25. It’s back at the dealer with all the same warnings on again.
On the day of purchase, while driving on a freeway, the vehicle would not accelerate. The rpm's went up, the engine revved, but the vehicle acted as if it was in neutral. These vehicles will not accelerate if they think the brake pedal is also being pressed. The brake was not being depressed. As I was pulling the vehicle to the side of the road, suddenly it allowed me to accelerate again, and I continued with no further issues. One week later, with fewer than 200 miles on the vehicle, upon starting the dashboard showed alerts to service esc, service brake assist, service trailer brake system. The abs and traction control lights also came on. These are all systems designed to prevent loss of control, and all failed without warning. A dealer service center diagnosed this as a known problem with a faulty master cylinder, on several models built over a period of several months.
Last Wednesday evening I purchased a 2025 Chevrolet Colorado zr2 midnight edition from preston hood Chevrolet in crestview, florida. I had been waiting to see this truck for a couple days as it was listed on their website. They said it was in service but when I asked why they did not tell me. When I went to the dealership to buy it I asked again why it had been in service and the salesman said he did not know but he said this truck has a lot of accessories they had to put on it. I drove the truck home, and then to work the next day and in my way home the brake system completely failed. I kept pushing fully on the brakes and it kept going and took quite some time to stop. I noticed multiple brake warnings and was stranded on a very busy street with cars flying by. This was not a safe area. When I called the dealership I asked point blank if the brakes was the reason I was unable to see the truck for the days I was waiting to purchase it and he said yes. The car was towed to a close by chevy dealership. (sandy sansing Chevrolet) and my husband drove me back to preston hood ( the selling dealership) and explained that I would never feel safe in that truck again as the incident scared me more than anything I can remember. I wanted my trade in back and the deal reversed primarily because they lied to me about why the truck was in the service department. I would have never considered purchasing a vehicle with brake issues. I asked for the prior service records and they had already changed the master cylinder and other items. The next day after many phone calls they finally gave me my trade back. I am not reporting for any personal gain, only to help keep someone else from getting killed by this obvious known issue with this truck.
This truck was purchased may 2025 and currently has 2600 miles. Without any warning the brake light and abs warning lights came on along with messages reading brake assist, esc, and trailer brake require service. I took my truck in to a Chevrolet dealer on Aug 18, 2025 for inspection of issue. I was informed the master cylinder has failed and because this was a “safety” issue I could not take drive my truck and they would not allow me to remove the vehicle from their lot. I understand there has been many people with this same issue. Why has a recall not been issued? why is Chevrolet still selling these trucks? this needs to be addressed ASAP to save lives.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving on a service road at 35 mph and attempting to bring the vehicle to a stop, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal was extremely firm, requiring excessive force to depress for the vehicle to come to a stop. The contact stated that there was an abnormal amount of white smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the vacuum pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 141,540.

When you have your foot on the break engine running within about 5 mins the breaks release for a second all the light on the dashboard kick on then the breaks feel spongy, you have to then turn the truck off the computer resets check engine light will still remain but the breaks will now be functional again. When taking it to the dealer they stated there was a software recall and they reset the light called it a day.
From auto stop when engine turns back on it jerks me forward.
Started the vehicle and 4 dash lights were on. The abs light, the forward collision system light, the brake light, and the traction control light. The vehicle was taken to a dealership and we have been notified by the dealer that it is a master brake cylinder failure. The part is on national backorder with no eta. Luckily, it did not fail while driving, but could've been tragic. This vehicle is brand new and belongs to my 16 year old. This is a known issue on the Colorado, traverse, and possibly other models. However, I have yet to find a recall or TSB. Brake cylinders are failing in brand new vehicles and gm needs to address it.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer for a routine oil change and after the vehicle was serviced, the contact was provided a multi-point vehicle inspection sheet which showed that the brake pads had received a green check mark and that the brake pads were 7-millimeters or greater on both the driver’s and passenger’s side. The next day upon start of the vehicle, the contact stated that a message "new brake pads detected" question was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact selected the "no" option followed by another question to service the brake pads. The contact then stated that a "service brake pad monitoring system" message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the dealer was informed of the messages. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that both the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the brake pads were 2 millimeters or less, despite the contact receiving information the day prior which stated otherwise. The contact questioned the dealer about the discrepancy and was informed that the computer provided the results for the multi-point vehicle inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
