This started about 3 months after I got the truck and has been doing it since. On three separate occasions, truck engine shut off after stopping then turning right on city and neighborhood streets. First time I pulled out on a road where the speed limit is 55 so I was lucky no one was behind me when the engine cut out. On the fourth occasion, truck shut off after backing up from parking spot and pushing on gas to go forward. No check engine lights, no noises or vibrations to tell me truck is going to shut off. I have to look at dash to see if it has gone black. Radio still works, and I'm able to steer off to side off the road because it's still in motion from after the turn. I can put gear in park position, turn key to off, then start the truck like normal. Have gone to mechanic and dealership and they can't get it to duplicate. Chevrolet has been notified but has said they cannot help if dealership can't find the problem. Steering wheel also starting to get stuck in turn position when turning right. Right after the turn it feels like it catches in something and I have to force the wheel back to center. Starting to happen almost daily, but not for dealership. I feel driving the truck is a safety hazard for not only me but others on the road.

The check engine light came on it popped up engine power reduced wouldn't go over 35 miles and hr on the interstate is not a good thing. I pulled over turned car off. Turned key back on started it was fine. A couple weeks later pulling out in traffic check engine. Light. Comes on and loses power again almost get hit. Go to parts. Store to plug machine for diagnosis. First it said unknown. So we do it again pa201 00 code. Computer said co2 sensor. I was told a TSB bulletin came in for this software update but nobody wants to talk about it they just want to fix it then charge. U for it. But. I think it should be covered software issues shouldn't be absorbed at customers exspense. My truck is a turbo diesel its hard to find parts for it at part store and diagnostic machine just getting in oil filters. Anyway in response of software it should be covered by someone else besides me. Before it loses power and vet's me killed or I. A wreck need issue resolved.

I got a check engine light while and engine goes into reduced power mode. You can't drive in reduced power mode! I have to clear it to move the truck. I did a scan which showed a p2138 code. But its just in memory and the dealer wont fix it unless its an active code but can't drive to the dealer in reduced power mode. Its a catch 22.

Driving at about 60 miles a hour and lost all power engine was running but going no were all light were lite on dash like you turn key on before starting thank god no one was coming the other way or the car behind me would have hit me. He was a good driver. Shut it off and restarted it then it would run with all light on dash even brake light and anti skid light and it said on infro. Running at reduced speed. Drove to my home a slow speed it let me. Shut it down let it sit a few min. Restarted it still the same. Shut it down for about ten mim. Restarted it. Seem to run ok but check engine light is till on now I afraid the will just reset it and say it is ok. And next time I won't be so lucky. It has 5500 miles on it. I did see my life before my eyes hopping it dose not happen to others. Taking dealer tomorrow it happen at about 5pm 3/24/2016.
Engine stalls intermittently when beginning to accelerate from red light/stop sign. Stalls occurred within 1 mile distance from where vehicle was started. First stall was at red light moving forward lightly. Sifted the vehicle to park, turned key, vehicle turned over and was able to drive once put in park. The vehicle was immediately taken to the chevy service center. The service advisor was able to read an error code p0506 even though the check engine light was not illuminated. Chevy could not schedule an appointment for the vehicle until 5 days later; the error had cleared and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Service department declared vehicle safe to drive as it the issue couldn't be duplicated. Engine stalled a second time when beginning to cross road at a two-way stop with oncoming traffic. Shifted vehicle to park, turned truck back on, shifted to drive and was able to move from intersection without being hit. . The Colorado was taken to the dealership a few hours later and the error code had cleared already. Service advisor stated the car was safe to drive and there was no work to be done as their were no warning codes and the check engine light was not illuminated.

In February 2015 my check engine light came on. After several repairs with my local mechanic he was unable to find the problem. I went to greenwood Chevrolet in hubbard, OH, and they reset my computer. However, before I got out of the auto lot, the check engine light reappeared. I returned to the service department and they then diagnosed a bad cylinder head and valves. The service manager reported this has been a problem with this particular engine and my online research revealed that Chevrolet recognized this problem and extended the warranty coverage to 7 years and 100,000 miles. My vehicle only had 87335 miles, but had been in service for 9 years, 7 months. I felt Chevrolet should have covered my repairs under the 100,000 miles extension even though I was over the 7 years. My reasoning is that Chevrolet was aware of this problem with this particular engine as evidenced by Chevrolet¿s service bulletin #07123a. I contacted the president and ceo of general motors and provided them with all my service records to offer proof of maintenance during my ownership. I heard nothing from them. I am filing this complaint because I felt gm should have covered the repairs because of the mileage of my vehicle and the care I had done to it. It cost me over $2000 to have this vehicle repaired.

There are several forum online each pretty much expressing the same problem. At the 100,000 mile mark the check engine light comes one indicating the #2 coil is bad. This doesn't seem to be the problem nor is it in the injectors. It seems with the online forums that are out there indicates there was a problem with the head on the 2005 Colorado but Chevrolet or gm is not investigating or talking about it.

Like all the other reports and complaints I have read online about this type of vehicle. I have the same problem with my 2006 chevy Colorado. I bought the truck 4 years ago almost brand new and I'm still paying for it but can't move it because it would not pass the state emissions test. I have spent about $1,000 trying to fix my truck, buying parts and replacing them because the check engine light came on. At the end I was told it had several misfires and had to do with the camshaft selenoid position. The truck would come to a complete stop while going to an intersection or a stop sign . I was told and also read that my only solution to fix this problem is to put in another engine but with time the same problem will come back. I guess this problem should be handled by the manufacturer and they're the ones who need to either fix them, give us our money back or something. Is not fair that we as consumers have to pay for something they did wrong. Now my truck is just standing there not able to drive it around and meanwhile I have to use someone else vehicle to move around or go to work.
For more than 10,000 miles (starting around 33-34,000 miles) and over a year my truck has experienced an intermittent rough idle. Without warning the idle will become rough and on several occasions the truck has almost stopped running. These events do not trigger a check engine light. When I take the truck to the dealer they cannot explain what is taking place. The truck has been in at least 6 times and I am losing my patience. The standard explanation is no check engine light then the problem is impossible to diagnose. I have contacted Chevrolet and so far they have not been any help. Im very concerned that I will find myself pulling into an intersection or crossing a street and the truck will not run! I was asked to change gas stations and I did to no effect. I have been inconvenienced by this recurring problem and I do not feel safe in the truck. After going to a Colorado truck owners forum on the internet I now know that I am not alone. Many owners are experiencing this same problem and are not able to get it resolved through the dealer or Chevrolet. My truck has approximately 44,500 mile on it and is paid for. I like the truck but it is not safe and it is not dependable.

A 2006 chevy Colorado was having misfires prior to September 2010. This caused the check engine light to come on and so I took it to a chevy dealership for a diagnosis. The diagnosis is the same for thousands of chevy Colorado engines as they need new seals, bolts, and a new head. My service manager said this has been a major issue with this engine since the introduction of this vehicle and it is due to a mechanical flaw and not wear and tear. These engines have put a major burden on general motors/Chevrolet customers as they have to spend large amounts of money to correct a mechanical flaw noticed by many certified mechanics. Please take this information into consideration as I have done extensive research in finding that this is not an isolated problem and numerous customers have been failed by this such company.
Check engine light has come on due to several misfires. Got this checked out at the dealership and they said this was a common issue with this model vehicle and that I needed to replace the cylinder head as the manufacturer created a faulty seal for these engines and they tend to leak at idle. This fix was quoted at 3000 dollars. I checked around and found a bulletin released by Chevrolet stating how they knew about the issue and basically saying how to fix it. Basically Chevrolet owns up to this being their mistake but is unwilling to help out the vehicle owners. They want us to pay 3000 to fix a vehicle that is suffering from their mistake. Chevrolet should be willing to count their losses and help out owners with this issue.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated when driving at a speed of at least 50 mph, the engine would idle roughly and the check engine light would illuminate on the warning panel. The dealer advised the engine intake valves were straining and all five cylinders were leaky due to the defective intake valves. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.
I have a 2005 chevy Colorado standard cab 2. 8 liter after 3 years I noticed engine internal noise start it up now it sounds like a diesel a lot of stuff is knocking around inside the motor I heard it was some type of recall on that but I'm not sure I do remember I had problems with throttle body have been replaced twice after this replacement from a certified technician that's when the problem of reduced power failure emitting from my dash could not go over 40 miles an hour check engine light would come on so I was told to disconnect battery for about an hour to let computer reboot and the problem would go away just for a little while when the motor is cold there's no noise it sounds like it's new but when it heats up that's when all the noises begin I always change my oil out every 3000 miles or 3 months I used castles 70,000 mi plus because I have 110000 mi on the vehicle I don't know if anyone who's had the same problem as far as the knocking in the motor but I do know that people have had problems with their throttle bodies malfunctioning and causing the truck to run rough and slow and sluggish now I don't drive it very far because I'm afraid that power reduction light will come on in my dash therefore I can't go over 40 miles an hour which I've mentioned this before all I can say is after this with the throttle body motor has been giving me problems vehicle was in motion.
Noticed rough idle and hesitation at first then check engine light comes on after few weeks. Cause is separate faulty ignition coils. Happened at 2,000, 3,000, and 5,000 miles. Dealer replaced under warranty but without explanation as to why this keeps happening.
Check engine light came on intermittently. Engine heated up and transmission would not shift into overdrive on freeway. Transmission shifts hard now and then. Checked website for any recalls on engine, took to dealership, still under warranty. They keep the truck for 2 weeks, did machine work on cylinder head, computer said all cylinders mis-firing. Print out from Chevrolet said 'head replacement', which was not done. Notified GMC customer service and opened file. Back to dealership second time for drop in idle and misfire during driving. Could not find anything wrong. Dealership said to bring back if said condition gets worse.
Vehicle experiences engine miss fire code that causes check engine light to come on. Symptoms started at 45,000 miles. Dealer reset computer first time with no repairs needed. Computer showed multiple miss fires the second time. Dealer stated this is common with high mileage Colorados due to carbon build up on valves. Dealer did check to ensure there was not a bad coil. Suggested using lucas fuel treatment. Did help rough idle and power. I was told next step will be to replace the head.
Power reduced warning and engine light comes on, can't accelerate above 50 mph. Dealer is currently working on problem for the fourth time. Unable to correctly repair or find problem. Very rude treatment from dealer. Updated 09/18/07.
Engine loses power over 55mph and misfires on cylinder one. Engine light comes on. Dealer refuses to fix after looking at it and saying nothing has completely failed yet. They are waiting for me to be stranded on the side of the road I guess.
My 2004 Chevrolet Colorado has had repeated a recurring problem where it will not respond to the throttle at all while driving. In all cases this has happened when the engine is warming up from a complete cold start in the morning. While driving at 45-50 miles per hour the engine will drop to idle speed and there is no response to throttle input. The dealer has had the vehicle in for service on this issue 5 times now and can nothing wrong. There are no codes set in the computer and the check engine light never comes on. The problem will clear itself after 20 to 30 seconds and may not occur again for weeks.
As my 2005 Colorado reached approximately 49,000 miles I noticed that it became more difficult to start and didn't run as smoothly as it had previously. A couple of weeks later, after the check engine light came on I had the truck serviced, and was told that the cylinder head and related components needed to be replaced at a cost of $3500 to $4000. Like many others, I have now learned that this was a common occurrence . And even worse, it seemed that it may be a recurring problem. I was told by the dealer that although gm has issued a technical service advisory and they were very aware of the problem Chevrolet will not issue a recall or take care of the problem when it occurred.
I have had problems with my truck and the check engine light, when serviced I found that it was the cylinder head that needed to be replaced. The service department at the chevy dealer said that it is a known and common occurrence in the 2005 5 cylinder Colorado. After doing research I found that many others had the same problem, some saying that ever 15000 miles they have had to replace the cylinder head, and one guy explained changing it for the 3rd time within the 2 years that he has owned his Colorado.
The check engine light comes on accompanied by an engine misfire due to weak exhaust valve springs which must be replaced. Recently GMC issued a bulletin to their service departments advising mechanics on the issue, and recognizing the problem with the valve springs and how to fix it, but will not acknowledge a manufacturer's defect. According to the bulletin this problem occurs in all Chevrolet Colorados 2004-2006, GMC canyons 2004-2006, and the hummer h3. The estimated cost of repair is about $2000, quoted by the dealer mechanic. Not only does the check engine light come on and stay on, it also causes the vehicle to stall while in operation. The truck shut down in the middle of the intersection while driving. Additionally you will have difficulty when you start your car, it will misfire and you may have to restart again. This will begin to happen regularly until you diagnose the problem. I went to different dealers to diagnose the problems because different mechanics could not find the problem with the check engine light. The last step was a dealer mechanic that had just received the above mentioned bulletin. They did not fix the problem with the valve springs, instead they reset the computer to stop the check engine light from occurring. The misfiring and stalling continued to happen.
Vehicles check engine light came on then went off after a couple of days. Vehicle idle dropped to 500 rpms. The truck started to act sluggish and acted as if it would shut off at idle. During acceleration the vehicle was again sluggish. Took the truck to a local shop and had the codes run. It came back as an engine low rpm code. I don't recall the actual code number. Had them do a motor vacuum to clean the fuel system and reset code. The check engine light has gone away and has not come back on. Vehicle does from time to time act as it is going to bog down. I thought that I should submit this complaint because it seems there are several others with the same problem.
: the contact stated while driving 65mph up an incline the vehicle began to loose power. The next day the check engine light illuminated. After inspecting the vehicle the independent repair shop reset the check engine light. The problem has not returned.
I was driving and my truck was shaking and spitting and sputtering and wasn't wanting to run right. When it was idling it was choppy the check engine light came on it was almost like the truck was possessed. I got to my friend's house and I checked to make sure that it was getting enough voltage from the battery like maybe the cables were loose but they weren't. I cranked the truck back up and it wasn't shaking and going crazy but when it ideals it doesn't sound right/isn't like it should be.
Check engine light came on in 90 day old vehicle - Chevrolet was fully aware of the problem when I took it to the dealer and fixed it. I had to pull over on the expressway to read my owners manual to determine if I could proceed - very dangerous. Chevrolet should be made to fix all Colorados before someone gets killed on the highway.
Engine & cooling systems, check engine light stays on while vehicle in use. Engine misses or vibrates slightly. Valves springs are bad @ 15,000 miles.
: the contact stated that while waiting at the traffic light, the engine raced and accelerated as if it was engaging to 50 mph. In an attempt to prohibit the vehicle from accelerating, the clutch was engaged while depressing the brake pedal. There was also a sulphur smell inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer who was unwilling to repair the vehicle without a fee. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic shop who discovered two trouble codes on the diagnostic computer system. The first was a po300 random misfire code. The second was a p1133 front oxygen sensor slow and switching code. The check engine light from the panel was also constantly illuminated. The issues have gradually worsened since the vehicle was purchased.
