In cold temperatures that the northern states experience (around 4 degrees f) the truck will intermittently die in the middle of the road while driving. Complete power loss with no warning, which seems to happen at any time. When the weather is above 10f consistently it seems there are no issues. Extremely dangerous and can leave you suddenly without power while driving.

At approx. 3500 miles started experiencing shifting issues. When slowing down transmission wanted to stay in 5th or 6th gear. Attempts to accelerate caused the truck to bog down until it shifted to a lower gear to accelerate again. When in cruise control problem was really bad. Would loose as much as 5-8 mph before a lower gear was found to maintain speed in hilly conditions. I took vehicle in for its first service at approx. 6000 miles and had dealer check transmission. They remapped shift points to spec software. This was a temporary fix. Issue is slowly returning. I have watched on control panel at transmission oil temp ( truck has trailer towing package etc. This is a cluster feature available. ) seems to shift properly until oil reaches 100 degrees plus then issue arrives. Dealer relayed there had only been a tech service bulletin has been to reset map/shift points. Recently pulled my boat with this truck and transmission shifted fine. Really would like this issue fixed because other then this problem really like the truck.

2006 Chevrolet Colorado purchased new on 11/30/05. On may 27,2013 service engine soon(ses) came on and stayed on. Took truck to Chevrolet dealership and diagnostic code revealed an engine misfire. They turned light off, test drove, light did not come back on and sent me on my way. June 17 2013 ses light came back on. Took back to dealership,they preformed a "leak down test" that showed multiple misfires in engine, a $4000 repair. Contacted gm and was told they had sent a letter to Colorado owners dated 8/2007 warning them this problem might occur and gm would extend the warranty to 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first to cover the problem. However, the letter also said not to take the truck for the fix if owner was not having the misfire problem. I never got such a letter-don't know why. I could not fix a problem I did not know I had! by the time my misfire problem occured it was about 6 mths. Out of the extended 7 year warranty but well under the 100,000 miles. Told all this to gm but they said "tuff". In my mind, by extending the warranty and even developing a special tool to help dealerships reduce labor costs, gm is acknowledging the defect in the factory built cylinder head. Gm says the only way to fix the misfire is to replace the cylinder head and it's integral parts, again a $4000 repair. Even a cursory search on the internet shows thousands of Colorado owners with the same problem. This has to be a factory defect.

Frequently, due to some failed or intermittent sensor in the pass lock system, truck will simply not start or function. Truck will not engage the starter and if bypassed will not engage furl or spark systems. System is designed to prevent theft but upon intermittent failure, prevents normal usage. Pass lock light will appear on dash. Car will not start, ten minute periods will pass when system is supposed to reset, but often it will not which means another 10 minute wait for next reset. At times it takes up to four resets to convince the security system to accept the input. I often now carry two sets of keys to try to increase the signal strength-no idea if that helps. I would hate to be in an unsafe area or out in -20 degree weather with this piece of crap gm engineering. Dealer uses the "can't duplicate problem but we will be happy to just randomly begin replacing parts at your expense" approach. A mandatory recall to force the corporation to fix this rampant (google passlock and see the cottage industry trying to fix this piece of crap engineering) problem in gm vehicles.

Axle/differential failure. Engaging reverse, vehicle will lunge forward with power and then jumps in reverse as if transmission is slipping or missing reverse gear. Vehicle strains to switch gears to reverse when vehicle is at a complete stop. Cstmer invoice: at time vehicle lunges and jumps in reverse. Reprogrammed pcm with update. Start vehicle idle 5 minutes or more, engaging d gear, engage a/c operation and then accelerating in 80-95 degree f enviromental conditions, vehicle will loose torque, rpms redline while appling normal accelrator pedal pressure. Vehicle stalls but never dies, coasted to nearby parking lot and called dealership for a wrecker, towed back to dealership for repairs. Dealer customer invoice: at times vehicle will not accelerate. Unable to verify customer concern. Operating as designed. No codes.
