The vehicle is a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette. Upon driving the steering column locked preventing the car from being controlled at speed. After researching the issue and investigating the matter with Chevrolet customer service I found that this steering lock antitheft device was found to be dangerous as I described. The NHTSA forced gm to recall vehicles, mine in 2003, recall numberr 4006. Subsequently gm concluded that this recall was not effective and issued two more recalls however customers were never notified by mail. Recall number 4006c issued in Feb 08 2006 superceeds all previous recalls instructing dealers and service technicians to remove the locking mechanism. However gm fails to take responsibility to assure that this latter recall is provided to my vehicle. After numerous calls to customer service 866 790 5700 they will not authorize repair of my vehicle. After $1700 out of pocket expenses my car is still in a situation that the steering column can lock while being driven and gm fails to respond. I have been bounced around to 8 to 9 representatives in customer service from peru , texas and detroit all with no action. All owners of 1999 to 2004 Corvettes whose theft deterent system is still in operation, meaning the steerign column locks when the key is removed should be aware that the car may lock when driving and crash. This is from gm's own service recall number 4006c. These vehicle should not be driven.
Car is a 2011 Corvette grand sport coupe. Intermittent display of "max speed 80 mph, service active handling, service traction system and the security light for the antitheft system stays on. When you turn the car off and restart 1-2 times, codes clear and operation returns to normal. Took car back to dealer three times. Last time (28000 miles) they kept car overnight and drove over 100 miles before they finally reproduced the problem. On 6/12/12 they replaced the ebcm and invoice description said "28216 checked and found codes p2548 and p0856. Performed diagnostic for codes and found intermittent loss of data from ebcm to ecm. Replaced ebcm and reprogrammed module. Code #28841. Rechecked after repairs ok at this time". Problem recurred last week on 8/26/12 at 33000 miles. Will take back to dealer this week.

In early April I had a recall work completed on my 2000 Corvette done by buss cheverolet of shawano, a couple of months later the recall work failed, so parson's chevy of antigo, we redid the recall work. Now on 08-27-07 the recall work failed again! this will be the third time in less than 6 months I will have to have recall work done on my car for the column lock failure. This problem is well known to owners of c5 body style Corvettes and most of these owners go and purchase their own bypass so it gets fixed correctly. Everyone I have spoken to indicates that when the dealership completes the work according to general motors direction the recall work always fail! when will general motors get it right? I shouldn't have to take my car into the dealership 3 times to have recall work done, especially when its a NHTSA ordered recall!.

1) I received a recall notice from Chevrolet recall information processing center on may 13, 2004. The recall is # 04006 - electronic column lock system. This recall was started on Feb. 9, 2004 according to your site. 2) I purchase the 2004 Chevrolet Corvette coup on September 9, 2004. I question Chevrolet's commitment to safety. Issueing a recall in Feb. Of 2004 and not bothering to repair the defect well the car was in their total control for 8 months, then selling me the car knowing full well the defect had not be fix, then waiting another 9 months to notify me. I contaced the dealer on may 16, 2005, to see if the car had the recall defect repaired. It had not. So Chevrolet has waited a total of 17 months. Not exactly a consumer advocate for safety to the driving public. 3)according to the dealer, this work can only be done during the week, not a weekend. So now, I have to miss a day of work for a problem that should have been taken care of before I even purchased the car. Now I know why Chevrolet always sends out a satifsfaction questionaire 30 days after purchase, because they know most of their vehicles should last that long. I'm sure I will not get one after a year has pasted.

Upon starting the vehicle steering wheel wouldn't move, and vehicle failed to start when the keys was turned in the ignition. This occurred due to a defect described in the electronic column lock recall 04v060000. But, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.

"service column lock" - car starts and runs but completely shuts down once the clutch is realeased. Car has 8,374 miles on it and has been to Chevrolet for this problem 4 times in the last 600 miles. Each time I was told it was fixed except for the last time where the service tech couldn't tell me what they did for the car but stated "it seems to be working now". That was 200 miles ago - now back at Chevrolet.
Car when moving in reverse aprox. 5mph had steering wheel lock. Steering would not move but car would move in forward or reverse. Car had rear left wheel rim damaged (scraped) from contact with curb. Followed directions on computer to no avail. Let it set for 24 hr. And everything was back to normal . . The car has since done this twice more and been put in storage since Nov. Of 2003.
According to your recall#04v060000, dated 02/09/04 the steering wheel lockup on 97 through 2000 Corvettes. Mine did it and I had to have the dealer disable the wheel lock. They informed me that my car was not covered by the recall, even though I had the same problem. Now a friend of mine's 99 Corvette just did the same thing and had to be hauled to the dealer and he was told his was not included in the recall. I would like to know why we were excluded from the recall. I would also like to be reimbursed for the expense. I await you reply.
